Abstract
Solvothermal reaction of a double pyrazinyl hydrazone ligand EDDC(2-) with Dy(OAc)3 results in a cyclic hexanuclear cluster [Dy6(EDDC)2(OAc)14(H2O)2]·MeOH·2H2O (). The addition of 1-naphthylphosphonate to the reaction mixture expands the ring size with the formation of a cyclic octanuclear cluster [Dy8(EDDC)4(O3PC10H7)4(OAc)8(H2O)4]·12H2O (). The latter shows slow magnetization relaxation below 12 K, characteristic of single molecule magnet behavior.

Abstract
Single-molecule toroics (SMTs) are defined, by analogy with single-molecule magnets, as bistable molecules with a toroidal magnetic state, and seem to be most promising for future applications in quantum computing and information storage and use as multiferroic materials with magnetoelectric effect. As an interdisciplinary research area that spans chemistry, physics and material sciences, synthetic chemists have produced systems suitable for detailed study by physicists and materials scientists, while ab initio calculations have been playing a major role in the detection of toroidal magnetization and the advancement of this field. In this tutorial review, we demonstrate the research developed in the fascinating and challenging field of molecular-based SMTs with particular focus on how recent studies tend to address the issue of toroidal arrangement of the magnetic moment in these systems. Herein, nine typical SMTs are summarized, showing that the assembly of wheel-shaped complexes with the high symmetry of the molecule unit and strong intra-molecular dipolar interactions using strong anisotropy metal ions represents the most promising route toward the design of a toroidal moment. Furthermore, the linkage of such robust toroidal moment units with ferromagnetic type through appropriate bridging ligands enhances the toroidal magnetic moment per unit cell.

Abstract
A hexagonal molecular "palladawheel" consisting of six N,N'-diphenyl-2,6-pyridinedicarboxamide-Pd(II) pincer complexes held together via six Pd∙∙∙O=CAmide bonds was efficiently synthesized and crystallographically characterized. The hexameric ring possesses C3 (pseudo-S6) symmetry with up-down alternating phenyl substituents acting as interior "spokes" and exterior "propellers."

Abstract
Three novel one-dimensional (1D) lanthanide coordination complexes involving the 4-methyl-3-nitrobenzoic acid (HL) ligand, with the general formulae [Gd(L)3(H2O)(CH3OH)] (1), [Gd(L)3(H2O)2]·(4,4'-bpy)·CH3OH (2), [Dy(L)3(H2O)(CH3OH)] (3), have been synthesized by solvothermal reactions. These complexes have been structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, IR, PXRD, TGA, and elemental analysis. Complexes 1 and 3 are isostructural except for the distinction of the metal ion. Magnetic measurements indicate that complexes 1-3 show antiferromagnetic behaviors. Complex 3 behaves with slow relaxation of the magnetization, where the frequency-dependent out-of-phase signals are noticed. However, the characteristic maxima were not reached above 2 K under zero direct current (DC) fields. When a DC field of 5000 Oe was employed, the frequency dependent peaks of alternating current (AC) signals were obtained.

Abstract
The reaction of a new hexadentate Schiff base hydrazide ligand (LH3) with rare earth(III) chloride salts in the presence of triethylamine as the base afforded two planar tetranuclear neutral complexes: [{(LH)2Dy4}(μ2-O)4](H2O)8·2CH3OH·8H2O (1) and [{(LH)2Ho4}(μ2-O)4](H2O)8·6CH3OH·4H2O (2). These neutral complexes possess a structure in which all of the lanthanide ions and the donor atoms of the ligand remain in a perfect plane. Each doubly deprotonated ligand holds two Ln(III) ions in its two distinct chelating coordination pockets to form [LH(Ln)2](4+) units. Two such units are connected by four [μ2-O](2-) ligands to form a planar tetranuclear assembly with an Ln(III)4 core that possesses a rhombus-shaped structure. Detailed static and dynamic magnetic analysis of 1 and 2 revealed single-molecule magnet (SMM) behavior for complex 1. A peculiar feature of the χM" versus temperature curve is that two peaks that are frequency-dependent are revealed, indicating the occurrence of two relaxation processes that lead to two energy barriers (16.8 and 54.2 K) and time constants (τ0 = 1.4 × 10(-6) s, τ0 = 7.2 × 10(-7) s). This was related to the presence of two distinct geometrical sites for Dy(III) in complex 1.
