Abstract
Benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxamide monomers derived from alkyl esters of tryptophan (BTA Trp) self-assemble into helices with an inner threefold hydrogen bond network surrounded by a second network involving the indole N-H groups. As a consequence of this extra stabilization of its helical assemblies, BTA Trp forms more viscous solutions than a range of ester and alkyl BTAs.

Abstract
We present rhodium catalysts that contain stereodynamic axially chiral biphenol-derived phosphinite ligands modified with non-stereoselective amides for non-covalent interactions. A chirality transfer was achieved with (R)- or (S)-acetylphenylalanine methyl amide, and the interaction mechanism was investigated by NMR measurements. These interactions at the non-stereoselective interaction sites and the formation of supramolecular complexes result in an enrichment of either the (Rax )- or (Sax ) enantiomer of the tropos catalysts, which in turn provide the (R)- or (S)-acetylphenylalanine methyl ester in the hydrogenation of (Z)-methyl-α-acetamidocinnamate.

Abstract
Chiral self-assembly has drawn increasing interest in supramolecular chemistry. Here, we have designed amphiphilic l-Pro-l-Glu and l-Pro-d-Glu dipeptides and investigated their chiral self-assembly as well as asymmetric catalytic performance to disclose the synergistic effect of two stereogenic centers in the self-assembly and catalysis. It was found that both of the diastereomeric dipeptides can easily self-assemble into organogels with nanofibers. When these nanofibers were used as a catalyst for the asymmetric aldol reactions, enhanced enantioselectivity was obtained compared with their molecular state. Moreover, the L-L isomer assemblies showed higher enantioselectivity than the L-D isomer. It was revealed that both the supramolecular chirality of the nanofiber and the chiral catalytic site of l-proline played important roles in the asymmetric catalysis. In addition, the synergistic effect of two homochiral centers led to more efficient supramolecular catalysis that the L-L assemblies showed high yields (up to 97%), anti-diastereoselectivity (up to 99%), and excellent enantioselectivity (up to >99%).

Abstract
To assemble functional molecular units into a desired structure while controlling positional and orientational order is a key technology for the development of high-performance organic materials that exhibit electronic, optoelectronic, biological and even dynamic functions. For this purpose, we cannot rely simply on the inherent self-assembly properties of the target functional molecular units, since it is difficult to predict, based solely on the molecular structure, what structure will be achieved upon assembly. To address this issue, it would be useful to employ molecular building blocks with self-assembly structures that can be clearly predicted and defined, to make target molecular units assemble into a desired structure. To date, various motifs of molecular assemblies, polymers, discrete and/or three-dimensional metal-organic complexes, nanoparticles and metal/metal oxide substrates have been developed to create materials with particular structures and dimensionalities. In this perspective, we define such assembly motifs as "supramolecular scaffolds". The structure of supramolecular scaffolds can be classified in terms of dimensionality, and they range in size from nano- to macroscopic scales. Functional molecular units, when attached to supramolecular scaffolds either covalently or non-covalently, can be assembled into specific structures, thus enabling the exploration of new properties, which cannot be achieved with the target molecular units alone. Through the classification and overview of reported examples, we shed new light on supramolecular scaffolds for the rational design of organic and polymeric materials.

Abstract
Stereochemistry is vital for pharmaceutical development and can determine drug efficacy. Herein, 10 pairs of asymmetric triplex metallohelix enantiomers as a library were used to screen inhibitors of amyloid β (Aβ) aggregation via a fluorescent cell-based high-throughput method. Intriguingly, Λ enantiomers show a stronger inhibition effect than Δ enantiomers. In addition, the metallohelices with aromatic substituents are more effective than those without, revealing that these groups play a key role in the Aβ interaction. Fluorescence stopped-flow kinetic studies indicate that binding of the Λ enantiomer to Aβ is much faster than that of the Δ enantiomer. Furthermore, studies in enzyme digestion, isothermal titration calorimetry, nuclear magnetic resonance, and computational docking demonstrate that the enantiomers bind to the central hydrophobic α-helical region of Aβ13-23, although with different modes for the Λ and Δ enantiomers. Finally, an in vivo study showed that these metallohelices extend the life span of the Caenorhabditis elegans CL2006 strain by attenuating Aβ-induced toxicity. Our work will shed light on the design and screening of a metal complex as an amyloid inhibitor against Alzheimer's disease.

Abstract
The complex Na3[{NiII(nmp)}3S3BTAalk)] (1) (nmp2- = deprotonated form of N-(2-mercaptoethyl)picolinamide; H3S3BTAalk = N1,N3,N5-tris(2-mercaptoethyl)benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxamide, where H = dissociable protons), supported by the thiolate-benzenetricarboxamide scaffold (S3BTAalk), has been synthesized as a trimetallic model of nickel-containing superoxide dismutase (NiSOD). X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and 1H NMR measurements on 1 indicate that the NiII centers are square-planar with N2S2 coordination, and Ni-N and Ni-S distances of 1.95 and 2.16 Å, respectively. Additional evidence from IR indicates the presence of H-bonds in 1 from the approximately -200 cm-1 shift in νNH from free ligand. The presence of H-bonds allows for speciation that is temperature-, concentration-, and solvent-dependent. In unbuffered water and at low temperature, a dimeric complex (1A; λ = 410 nm) that aggregates through intermolecular NH···O═C bonds of BTA units is observed. Dissolution of 1 in pH 7.4 buffer or in unbuffered water at temperatures above 50 °C results in monomeric complex (1M; λ = 367 nm) linked through intramolecular NH···S bonds. DFT computations indicate a low energy barrier between 1A and 1M with nearly identical frontier MOs and Ni-ligand metrics. Notably, 1A and 1M exhibit remarkable stability in protic solvents such as MeOH and H2O, in stark contrast to monometallic [NiII(nmp)(SR)]- complexes. The reactivity of 1 with excess O2, H2O2, and O2•- is species-dependent. IR and UV-vis reveal that 1A in MeOH reacts with excess O2 to yield an S-bound sulfinate, but does not react with O2•-. In contrast, 1M is stable to O2 in pH 7.4 buffer, but reacts with O2•- to yield a putative [NiII(nmp)(O2)]- complex from release of the BTA-thiolate based on EPR.

Abstract
In this review, we describe the recent advances in supramolecular helical assemblies formed from chiral and achiral small molecules, oligomers (foldamers), and helical and nonhelical polymers from the viewpoints of their formations with unique chiral phenomena, such as amplification of chirality during the dynamic helically assembled processes, properties, and specific functionalities, some of which have not been observed in or achieved by biological systems. In addition, a brief historical overview of the helical assemblies of small molecules and remarkable progress in the synthesis of single-stranded and multistranded helical foldamers and polymers, their properties, structures, and functions, mainly since 2009, will also be described.

Abstract
As the benzene 1,3,5-tricarboxamide (BTA) moiety is commonly used as the central assembling unit for the construction of functionalized supramolecular architectures, strategies to tailor the nature and stability of BTA assemblies are needed. The assembly properties of a library of structurally simple BTAs derived from amino dodecyl esters (ester BTAs, 13 members) have been studied, either in the bulk or in cyclohexane solutions, by means of a series of analytical methods (NMR, DSC, POM, FT-IR, UV-Vis, CD, ITC, high-sensitivity DSC, SANS). Two types of hydrogen-bonded species have been identified and characterized: the expected amide-bonded helical rods (or stacks) that are structurally similar to those formed by BTAs with simple alkyl side chains (alkyl BTAs), and ester-bonded dimers in which the BTAs are connected by means of hydrogen bonds linking the amide N-H and the ester C[double bond, length as m-dash]O. MM/MD calculations coupled with simulations of CD spectra allow for the precise determination of the molecular arrangement and of the hydrogen bond pattern of these dimers. Our study points out the crucial influence of the substituent attached on the amino-ester α-carbon on the relative stability of the rod-like versus dimeric assemblies. By varying this substituent, one can precisely tune the nature of the dominant hydrogen-bonded species (stacks or dimers) in the neat compounds and in cyclohexane over a wide range of temperatures and concentrations. In the neat BTAs, stacks are stable up to 213 °C and dimers above 180 °C whilst in cyclohexane stacks form at c* > 3 × 10-5 M at 20 °C and dimers are stable up to 80 °C at 7 × 10-6 M. Ester BTAs that assemble into stacks form a liquid-crystalline phase and yield gels or viscous solutions in cyclohexane, demonstrating the importance of controlling the structure of these assemblies. Our systematic study of these structurally similar ester BTAs also allows for a better understanding of how a single atom or moiety can impact the nature and stability of BTA aggregates, which is of importance for the future development of functionalized BTA supramolecular polymers.
