Abstract
A convergent one-step transformation of tetrahydropyranyl (THP) ethers is described. According to our earlier experiments, indium(III) triflate has proven to be an efficient catalyst for the transformation of THP ethers into their corresponding acetates. In further intensive work, we have developed a useful transforming reaction of THP ethers using various anhydride moieties. Indium(III) triflate was confirmed as a suitable catalyst, furnishing good to excellent yields. The details of this one-step transformation are described.

Abstract
Development of efficient, scalable routes for the synthesis of (S)-3-[5-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-1-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1H-pyrazol-3-yl]-2-m-tolyl propionic acid, a selective cholecystokinin 1 (CCK 1) receptor antagonist, is described. A key feature of the scale-up route is a concise construction of the complete pyrazole framework in a single step by reacting an aryl hydrazine with an elaborated acetylenic ketone. This route was then further refined incorporating efficient enantioselective strategies to obtain the desired S-enantiomer in high optical purity. The first strategy involved an efficient, recyclable, kinetic resolution by enzyme-catalyzed hydrolysis of the racemic ester. In the second-generation route, the requisite stereochemistry at the chiral center was generated at an early stage in the synthesis involving a remarkable diastereoselective addition of inexpensive (S)-(-)-ethyl lactate to an alkylaryl ketene. Both methods furnished optically pure (>99% ee) final drug substance as its crystalline sodium salt.

Abstract
A consecutive four-component synthesis of highly-substituted tetrahydro-beta-carbolines can be achieved by a coupling-aminatio-aza-annulation-Pictet-Spengler (CAAPS) sequence creating five new sigma-bonds and four new stereocenters in a one-pot fashion. The structures were unambiguously supported by X-ray structure analyses.

Abstract
The first application of 7Li pulsed-gradient spin-echo (PGSE) diffusion methods to structural lithium chemistry is reported. The data, which provide quantitative diffusion constants at 155 K, lead to a new method of estimating solvent viscosity at this temperature and clearly show a solvent dependence for the structure of LiPPh2. In THF, LiPPh2 exists as a mononuclear solvated species, whereas in Et2O, a dinuclear structure is found. D values for the model compound PHPh2 in THF have been measured.

Abstract
Phosphane-free oxime-derived palladacycle 2 is an efficient precatalyst for the copper-free acylation of terminal alkynes with different carboxylic acid chlorides in toluene in the presence of 3 equiv of TEA as base, giving the corresponding ynones in good yields. The coupling reaction can normally be performed under air or under inert atmosphere when very low catalyst loadings (10(-3) mol % Pd) (turnover numbers (TONs) up to 23,000, turnover frequencies (TOFs) up to 958 h(-1)) or sensitive carboxylic acid chlorides are used. In addition, Pd(OAc)(2) has been shown as an efficient catalyst for the ligandless process, although usually working under higher loading conditions. This new protocol allows one to perform the synthesis of ynones at 110 degrees C, at room temperature, or under microwave irradiation conditions.

Abstract
[reaction: see text] A mild and efficient methodology involving PdCl(2)-catalyzed cyclocarbonylation of 2-alkynols with CuCl(2) for the synthesis of (Z)-alpha-chloroalkylidene-beta-lactones was developed. Using the readily available optically active propargylic alcohols allows convenient synthesis of the corresponding (Z)-alpha-chloroalkylidene-beta-lactones with high ee values. cis-Chloropalladation was observed as the major pathway, which is unique as compared to the reported data.

Abstract
Inter- and intramolecular hydrogen bonding of an N-H group in pyrazole complexes was studied using ligands with two different groups at pyrazole C-3 and C-5. At C-5, groups such as methyl, i-propyl, phenyl, or tert-butyl were present. At C-3, side chains L-CH(2)- and L-CH(2)CH(2)- (L = thioether or phosphine) ensured formation of chelates to a cis-dichloropalladium(II) fragment through side-chain atom L and the pyrazole nitrogen closest to the side chain. The significance of the ligands is that by placing a ligating side chain on a ring carbon (C-3), rather than on a ring nitrogen, the ring nitrogen not bound to the metal and its attached proton are available for hydrogen bonding. As desired, seven chelate complexes examined by X-ray diffraction all showed intramolecular hydrogen bonding between the pyrazole N-H and a chloride ligand in the cis position. In addition, however, intermolecular hydrogen bonding could be controlled by the substituent at C-5: complexes with either a methyl at C-5 or no substituent there showed significant intermolecular hydrogen bonding interactions, which were completely avoided by placing a tert-butyl group at C-5. The acidity of two complexes in acetonitrile solutions was estimated to be closer to that of pyridinium ion than those of imidazolium or triethylammonium ions.
