Abstract
Enantioenriched pyranones are important intermediates in the synthesis of natural products and the generation of compound libraries. A one-pot method for their synthesis is outlined. Catalytic asymmetric alkylation of 2-furfurals in the presence of catalytic (-)-MIB generates enantioenriched furyl zinc alkoxides. Addition of water/THF followed by NBS results in formation of pyranones with ee's >90% and yields between 46-77%.

Abstract
2,4-Disubstituted pyrroles were synthesized by an oxidative rearrangement of a furanyl carbamate followed by sequential reaction of the resulting 5-methoxypyrrol-2(5H)-one with different alkyl lithiates. The final step of the procedure involves heating the ring opened 1-methoxy-5-oxopentylcarbamate with a primary amine.

Abstract
A unified strategy for the high-throughput synthesis of multigram quantities of the eta(3)-oxopyranyl- and eta(3)-oxopyridinylmolybdenum complexes TpMo(CO)(2)(eta(3)-oxopyranyl) and TpMo(CO)(2)(eta(3)-oxopyridinyl) is described (Tp = hydridotrispyrazolylborato). The strategy uses the oxa- and aza-Achmatowicz reaction for the preparation of these organometallic enantiomeric scaffolds, in both racemic and high enantiopurity versions.

Abstract
The first asymmetric synthesis of (+)-iso-6-cassine is described. Lipase-catalyzed resolution, enantioselective Overman rearrangement, and diastereoselective intramolecular amidomercuration were used for the installation of the three stereocenters in (+)-iso-6-cassine, and cross-metathesis was employed for the attachment of the side-chain.

Abstract
The Knoevenagel condensation of aldose sugars with beta-dicarbonyl compounds produces furan derivatives having polyhydroxyalkylated alkyl side chains; this reaction is known as the Garcia Gonzalez reaction. Despite the fact that these polyhydroxyalkyl furans are interesting scaffolds for synthetic chemists to utilize in the synthesis of a variety of biologically interesting molecules, the reported approach suffers from harsh conditions. The development of a general and more efficient protocol is of considerable importance, and in this manuscript, we wish to explore the role of the NaI in enhancing the activity of CeCl3.7H2O as a useful water-tolerant Lewis acid promoter for the Garcia Gonzalez reaction. The procedure proceeds with good yields at 50 degrees C using our system supported on SiO2 in solvent-free conditions and represents a simple and convenient methodology for the preparation of densely functionalized molecules. Furthermore, the first qualitative results obtained on mechanistic investigation on the role of iodide on this our heterogeneous reaction may be of value for optimization of existing organic transformations and for the development of new ones.
