Abstract
meta-Substituted arylamide trimer, pentamer and heptamer have been prepared from simple benzene-1,3-diamine, benzene-1,3-dicarboxylic acid, and 3-aminobenzoic acid units. 2D NOESY (1)H NMR experiments reveal that these flexible oligomers form folded conformations to complex di- and tricarboxylate anions of varying sizes and shapes in DMSO of high polarity, which is driven by multiple intermolecular N-H···O=C and C-H···O=C hydrogen-bonds between the amide and aromatic hydrogens of the oligomers and the carboxylate oxygens of the anions. Generally, tricarboxylate anions display an increased binding affinity compared with the dicarboxylate anions and the complexes formed by 1,3-benzenedicarboxylate anion are more stable than those formed by 1,2- or 1,4-benzenedicarboxylate anions. Circular dichroism experiments show that chiral glutamic acid dianion can induce the oligomers to produce chiral bias, leading to the formation of chiral supramolecular complexes.

Abstract
Palladium catalyzed Suzuki-Miyaura, Stille, and Sonogashira coupling reactions are reported for the electron-deficient heterocyclic scaffold 3,5-dichloro-4H-1,2,6-thiadiazin-4-one (1). Furthermore, 3,5-di(thien-2-yl)-4H-1,2,6-thiadiazin-4-one (7m) is further elaborated to afford the tetrathienyl 3,5-bis[(2,2'-bithien)-5-yl]-4H-1,2,6-thiadiazin-4-one (9). All compounds are fully characterized.

Abstract
A macrocyclic host molecule having pyridine-pyridone-pyridine modules for saccharide recognition was prepared by Cu(II)-mediated oxidative homocoupling of a tandem diethynyl precursor. In CH(2)Cl(2), the host molecule associated with dodecyl β-maltoside much more strongly (K(a) = 1.4 × 10(6) M(-1)) than with octyl monohexosides (K(a) = ca. 2 × 10(3) to 1 × 10(4) M(-1)), accompanied with induced CDs. An all-pyridine macrocyclic host was also studied, and its binding strength with saccharides was weaker than that for the pyridine-pyridone-pyridine host.

Abstract
The design and synthesis of artificial helical polymers and oligomers has attracted much interest, in connection with fascinating biological helices and their sophisticated functions as well as possible applications in novel chiral materials. The last half-century has seen a significant advancement in the synthesis of single-stranded helical polymers and oligomers, since the discovery of the helical structure of isotactic polypropylene. In contrast, the chemistry of double-stranded helical counterparts is still premature. This paper highlights our recent achievements in the synthesis, structures, and functions of double-stranded helical polymers and oligomers, stressing an important role of supramolecular chemistry in the design and synthesis of double helices with a controlled helical sense.

Abstract
The importance of carbohydrate recognition in biology, and the unusual challenges involved, have lead to great interest in mimicking saccharide-binding proteins such as lectins. In this review, we discuss the design of artificial carbohydrate receptors, focusing on those which work under natural (i.e. aqueous) conditions. The problem is intrinsically difficult because of the similarity between substrate (carbohydrate) and solvent (water) and, accordingly, progress has been slow. However, recent developments suggest that solutions can be found. In particular, the "temple" family of carbohydrate receptors show good affinities and excellent selectivities for certain all-equatorial substrates. One example is selective for O-linked beta-N-acetylglucosamine (GlcNAc, as in the O-GlcNAc protein modification), while another is specific for beta-cellobiosyl and closely related disaccharides. Both show roughly millimolar affinities, matching the strength of some lectin-carbohydrate interactions.
