Abstract
A series of substituted quinolines was prepared from arylamines, aldehydes, and terminal olefins (see scheme). The palladium-catalyzed sequential formation of C-C bonds proceeds smoothly with both electron-deficient and electron-rich olefins. When acrylic acid is used as terminal olefin, decarboxylation occurs to provide 2-substituted quinolines.

Abstract
A triflic imide (Tf2NH) catalyzed isomerization of kinetically favourable silyl enol ethers into thermodynamically stable ones was developed. We also demonstrated a one-pot catalytic reaction consisting of (2 + 2) cycloaddition and isomerization. In the reaction sequence, Tf2NH catalyzes both of the reactions.

Abstract
Three become one: Phosphoric acid-catalyzed enantioselective three-component Povarov reactions of aldehydes, anilines, and endocyclic enethioureas have been developed (see scheme). This process afforded hexahydropyrroloquinolines in high yields with excellent diastereo- and enantioselectivities. The presence of the thiourea functionality is crucial for the enantioselectivity of the reaction.

Abstract
A facile and general method leading to polyfunctionalized quinolines was developed. In the presence of a highly efficient combination encompassing (PPh)(3)AuCl and AgOTf, the reactions between 2-aminocarbonyls and an array of internal alkynes proceeded smoothly to afford quinoline derivatives in good to excellent yields (up to 93%).

Abstract
The asymmetric Povarov reaction with α-alkyl styrenes as dienophiles was catalyzed by an N,N'-dioxide L4-Sc(OTf)(3) complex. Enantiopure tetrahydroquinoline derivatives with a quaternary stereocenter at the C4 position were synthesized for the first time. A wide variety of α-alkyl styrenes and N-aryl aldimines were tolerated in the reaction, to give excellent diastereo- (up to 99:1 d.r.) and enantioselectivities (92 to >99% ee). In addition, the reaction could be performed on the gram scale without any loss of yield, diastereoselectivity, or enantioselectivity. An intermolecular hydrogen-shift reaction was found to be a side reaction, which offered a method to synthesize the corresponding quinoline derivatives with chiral quaternary sterocenters.

Abstract
A set of coumarin-fused electron-deficient 1,3-dienes was synthesized, which differ in the nature of the electron-withdrawing group (EWG) at the terminus of the diene unit and (when EWG = CO(2)Me) the nature and position of substituents. These dienes reacted with the enamine derived from cyclopentanone and pyrrolidine to afford the corresponding cyclopenteno-fused 6H-dibenzo[b,d]pyran-6-ones, most likely via a domino inverse electron demand Diels-Alder (IEDDA)/elimination/transfer hydrogenation sequence. The parent diene (EWG = CO(2)Me, no substituents) was reacted with a range of electron-rich dienophiles (mostly enamines) to afford the corresponding 6H-dibenzo[b,d]pyran-6-ones or their nondehydrogenated precursors, which were aromatized upon treatment with a suitable oxidant. The enamines could either be synthesized prior to the reaction or generated in situ. The syntheses of 30 dibenzopyranones are reported.

Abstract
The tetrahydroquinolines obtained through the Povarov multicomponent reaction have been oxidized to the corresponding quinoline, giving access to a single product through a two-step sequence. Several oxidizing agents were studied and manganese dioxide proved to be the reagent of choice, affording higher yields, cleaner reactions and practical protocols.

Abstract
Unsaturated lactams with endo- or exocyclic C-C double bonds constitute a set of reactive inputs that serve as the electron-rich olefin component in Povarov reactions. These substrates afford the multicomponent adducts in convenient yields and offer a wide range of structural diversity. Postcondensation transformations allow direct access to a variety of lactam-fused and amide-substituted quinoline derivatives.
