Abstract
The oxidative coupling of enolates, enol silanes, and enamines provides a direct method for the construction of useful 1,4-dicarbonyl synthons. Despite being first reported in 1935, with subsequent important advances beginning in the 1970's, the development of this powerful reaction into a reliable methodology was somewhat limited. In recent years, there have been a number of reports from several research groups demonstrating advances in several neglected areas of oxidative coupling. This microreview summarizes these new advances in methodology and provides an overview of recent natural product syntheses that showcase the power of these transformations.

Abstract
A gold(i)-catalyzed cyclization of 2-(1-alkynyl)-alk-2-en-1-one oximes with numerous nucleophiles has been developed. This strategy provides a relatively safe, mild, simple access to a mass of highly substituted N-alkoxypyrroles.

Abstract
A concise total synthesis of lamellarins D (7 steps), H (7 steps), and R (5 steps) and ningalin B (5 steps) is achieved starting from the corresponding aldehydes and amines. The synthesis features three oxidative reactions as key steps in a biomimetic manner, involving an AgOAc-mediated oxidative coupling reaction to construct the pyrrole core, a Pb(OAc)(4)-induced oxidative cyclization to form the lactone, and Kita's oxidation reaction to form the pyrrole-arene C-C bond.
