NH and N-protected isoquinolones undergo Rh(III)-catalyzed oxidative olefination at the 8-position. Complementary redox-neutral olefination of such isoquinolones using internal alkynes was achieved under ruthenium catalysis.

Palladium(II)-catalyzed direct alkenylation of nonaromatic enamides

A mild and efficient method for the direct alkenylation of nonaromatic enamides was achieved through a palladium(II)-catalyzed C-H functionalization. The reaction scope includes cyclic and acyclic enamides and a range of activated alkenes. This approach represents the first successful direct C(3)-functionalization of nonaromatic cyclic enamides.

Pd(II)-catalyzed dehydrogenative olefination of vinylic C-H bonds with allylic esters: general and selective access to linear 1,3-butadienes

This work demonstrates a general and efficient method to prepare conjugated dienes by Pd(II)-catalyzed direct olefination of unactivated alkenes with allylic esters and acrylates via vinylic C-H activation. Various aryl and heteroaryl alkenes as well as aliphatic alkenes all give the desired linear 1,3-butadienes with retention of the traditional leaving groups such as OAc and other carboxylic acid ester groups.

Pyridine ligands as promoters in Pd(II/0)-catalyzed C-H olefination reactions

Commercially available pyridine ligands can significantly enhance the rate, yield, substrate scope, and site selectivity of arene C-H olefination (Fujiwara-Moritani) reactions. The use of a 1:1 ratio of Pd/pyridine proved critical to maximize reaction rates and yields.
