Abstract
Neutral and cationic organometallic ruthenium(II) piano stool complexes of the type [(eta(6)-cymene)RuCl(X)(Y)] (complexes R1-R8) has been synthesized and characterized. In cationic complexes, X, Y is either a eta(2) phosphorus ligand such as 1,1-bis(diphenylphosphino)methane (DPPM) and 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane (DPPE) or partially oxidized ligands such as 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)methane monooxide (DPPMO) and 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane monooxide (DPPEO) which are strong hydrogen bond acceptors. In neutral complexes, X is chloride and Y is a monodentate phosphorous donor. Complexes with DPPM and DPPMO ligands ([(eta(6)-cymene)Ru(eta(2)-DPPM)Cl]PF(6) (R2), [(eta(6)-cymene)Ru(eta(2)-DPPMO)Cl]PF(6) (R3), [(eta(6)-cymene)Ru(eta(1)-DPPM)Cl(2)] (R5) and [(eta(6)-cymene)Ru(eta(1)-DPPMO)Cl(2)] (R6) show good cytotoxicity. Growth inhibition study of several human cancer cell lines by these complexes has been carried out. Mechanistic studies for R5 and R6 show that inhibition of cancer cell growth involves both cell cycle arrest and apoptosis induction. Using an apoptosis PCR array, we identified the sets of anti-apoptotic genes that were down regulated and pro-apoptotic genes that were up regulated. These complexes were also found to be potent metastasis inhibitors as they prevented cell invasion through matrigel. The complexes were shown to bind DNA in a non intercalative fashion and cause unwinding of plasmid DNA in cell-free medium by competitive ethidium bromide binding, viscosity measurements, thermal denaturation and gel mobility shift assays.

Abstract
The hemilabile ligand Me-DuPHOS(O) 2 has proven to be a successful ligand for the copper-catalyzed addition of diethylzinc to N-phosphinoylimines. The corresponding alpha-chiral amines were obtained in high yields (80-98%) and enantiomeric ratios (19.0:1 to 99.0:1 er). Furthermore, this Cu* 2 catalytic system has been shown to be effective in the addition of diethylzinc to nitroalkenes and in the reduction of beta,beta-disubstituted vinyl phenyl sulfones. This paper describes a general structure/selectivity study in which the three ligand subunits (chiral phospholane-linker-labile coordinating group (Z)) are systematically modified and tested in the copper-catalyzed addition of diethylzinc to the N-phosphinoylimine 1 derived from benzaldehyde. This study led to the discovery of a new class of effective chiral ligands that combine a chiral phospholane unit and an achiral phosphine oxide.

Abstract
Donor properties of 1-(diphenylphosphanyl)-1'-vinylferrocene (1) were investigated in a series of reactions with palladium(II), rhodium(I), and copper(I) compounds. In all complexes obtained, compound 1 coordinates exclusively as a monodentate phosphorus donor, giving trans-[PdCl2(1-κP)2] (3) with [PdCl2(cod)], [PdCl(LNC)(1-κP)] (4) with [{Pd(LNC)}2(μ-Cl)2], and trans-[RhCl(CO)(1-κP)2] (5) with [{Rh(CO)2}2(μ-Cl)2] (cod = cycloocta-1,5-diene, LNC = 2-[(dimethylamino)methyl-κN]phenyl-κC1). Copper(I) precursors CuI and [Cu(MeCN)4]PF6 reacted with 1 in a similar manner, yielding at appropriate molar ratios heterocubane [(μ3-I)4{Cu(1-κP)}4] (6) and the bis(phosphane) complex [Cu(MeCN)(1-κP)2]PF6 (7), respectively. The structures of 1-(diphenylthiophosphoryl)-1'-vinylferrocene (2), 3, 4·CHCl3, 6·C6H6, and 7 have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction.

Abstract
[(Ru(eta(6)-p-cymene)(mu-Cl)Cl)(2)] and [(Ru(eta(3):eta(3)-C(10)H(16))(mu-Cl)Cl)(2)] react with Ph(2)PCH(2)P[=NP(=O)(OR)(2)]Ph(2) (R = Et (1a), Ph (1b)) affording complexes [Ru(eta(6)-p-cymene)Cl(2)(kappa(1)-P-Ph(2)PCH(2)P[=NP(=O)(OR)(2)]Ph(2))] (R = Et (2a), Ph (2b)) and [Ru(eta(3):eta(3)-C(10)H(16))Cl(2)(kappa(1)-P-Ph(2)PCH(2)P[=NP(=O)(OR)(2)]Ph(2))] (R = Et (6a), Ph (6b)). While treatment of 2a with 1 equiv of AgSbF(6) yields a mixture of [Ru(eta(6)-p-cymene)Cl(kappa(2)-P,O-Ph(2)PCH(2)P[=NP(=O)(OEt)(2)]Ph(2))][SbF(6)] (3a) and [Ru(eta(6)-p-cymene)Cl(kappa(2)-P,N-Ph(2)PCH(2)P[=NP(=O)(OEt)(2)]Ph(2))][SbF(6)] (4a), [Ru(eta(6)-p-cymene)Cl(kappa(2)-P,O-Ph(2)PCH(2)P[=NP(=O)(OPh)(2)]Ph(2))][SbF(6)] (3b) and [Ru(eta(3):eta(3)-C(10)H(16))Cl(kappa(2)-P,O-Ph(2)PCH(2)P[=NP(=O)(OR)(2)]Ph(2))][SbF(6)] (R = Et (7a), Ph (7b)) are selectively formed from 2b and 6a,b. Complexes [Ru(eta(6)-p-cymene)(kappa(3)-P,N,O-Ph(2)PCH(2)P[=NP(=O)(OR)(2)]Ph(2))][SbF(6)](2) (R = Et (5a), Ph (5b)) and [Ru(eta(3):eta(3)-C(10)H(16))(kappa(3)-P,N,O-Ph(2)PCH(2)P[=NP(=O)(OR)(2)]Ph(2))][SbF(6)](2) (R = Et (8a), Ph (8b)) have been prepared using 2 equiv of AgSbF(6). The reactivity of 3-5a,b has been explored allowing the synthesis of [Ru(eta(6)-p-cymene)X(2)(kappa(1)-P-Ph(2)PCH(2)P[=NP(=O)(OR)(2)]Ph(2))] (R = Et, Ph; X = Br, I, N(3), NCO (9-12a,b)). The catalytic activity of 2-8a,b in transfer hydrogenation of cyclohexanone, as well as theoretical calculations on the models [Ru(eta(6)-C(6)H(6))Cl(kappa(2)-P,N-H(2)PCH(2)P[=NP(=O)(OH)(2)]H(2))]+ and [Ru(eta(6)-C(6)H(6))Cl(kappa(2)-P,O-H(2)PCH(2)P[=NP(=O)(OH)(2)]H(2))]+, has been also studied.
