Abstract
Since the discovery of the first stable N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) in the beginning of the 1990s, these divalent carbon species have become a common and available class of compounds, which have found numerous applications in academic and industrial research. Their important role as two-electron donor ligands, especially in transition metal chemistry and catalysis, is difficult to overestimate. In the past decade, there has been tremendous research attention given to the chemistry of low-coordinate main group element compounds. Significant progress has been achieved in stabilization and isolation of such species as Lewis acid/base adducts with highly tunable NHC ligands. This has allowed investigation of numerous novel types of compounds with unique electronic structures and opened new opportunities in the rational design of novel organic catalysts and materials. This Review gives a general overview of this research, basic synthetic approaches, key features of NHC-main group element adducts, and might be useful for the broad research community.

Abstract
Two-electron reduction of the TiIV compound (ket guan)(ImDipp N)Ti(OTf)2 (3) gives the arene-masked complex (ket guan)(η6 -ImDipp N)Ti (1) in excellent yield. Upon standing in solution, 1 converts to a TiIV metallacycle (4) through dehydrogenation of a pendant isopropyl group. Spectroscopic evidence shows this transformation initially proceeds via the oxidative addition of a C(sp3 )-H bond and can be reversed upon exposure of 4 to H2 . Interestingly, treatment of 1 with cyclohexene gives cyclohexane and 4 via a titanium-mediated transfer hydrogenation reaction, a process that can be extended to catalytically hydrogenate other unsaturated hydrocarbons under mild conditions. These results, rare for the early-metals, suggest 1 possesses chemical characteristics reminiscent of noble, late-metals.

Abstract
Novel silylium ions with N-heterocyclic imines were successfully synthesized. The reaction of trimethylsilyl imidazolin-2-imine Me3SiNIPr (NIPr = bis(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)-imidazolin-2-imino) with B(C6F5)3 leads to dimeric imino-substituted silylium ions through a methyl group abstraction on the silicon atom. Meanwhile, the intermolecular imino-coordinated silylium ion is formed by using the less sterically crowded imine Me3SiNItBu (NItBu = bis(tert-butyl)-imidazolin-2-imino). Furthermore, the treatment of dimethylchlorosilane Me2(Cl)SiNIPr with AgOTf affords the contact ion pair Me2(OTf)SiNIPr by substitution of the chloride. A novel complex with the formula [Me2(DMAP)SiNIPr][OTf] was prepared by coordination with 4-dimethylamino-pyridine (DMAP). In the solid state, the DMAP adduct [Me2(DMAP)SiNIPr][OTf] contains a distinct [Me2(DMAP)SiNIPr]+ moiety.

Abstract
Imidazolin-2-imines (ImRN-), derived from N-heterocylic carbenes, have been shown to be strong electron donors when directly coordinated to metals or when used as a substituent in larger ligand frameworks. In an attempt to enhance the electron-donating properties of the popular guanidine ligand class, the effect of appending an ImRN- backbone onto a guanidinate scaffold was investigated. Addition of 1 equiv of [Li(Et2O)][Im tBuN] to the aryl carbodiimide (dippN)2C (dipp = 2,6-diisopropylphenyl) cleanly affords the lithium Im tBuN-functionalized guanidinate [Li(THF)2][(Im tBuN)C(Ndipp)2] (1). Subsequent metalation of the ligand with FeBr2 gives the yellow Fe(II) complex {[(Im tBuN)C(Ndipp)2]FeBr}2 (4) in good yield. Solid-state structural analyses of both 1 and 4 shows the Im tBuN- group acts as a non-coordinating backbone substituent. Direct structural comparison of 4 to the closely related guanidinate and ketimine-guanidinate complexes {[(X)C(Ndipp)2]FeBr}2 (X = t Bu2C=N (5); N( i Pr)2 (6)), differing only in their backbone, reveals a detectable resonance contribution of the Im tBuN- group to the guanidinate ligand electronic structure. Moreover, the Fe(II)/Fe(III) redox couple of 4 (E1/2 = -0.67 V) is cathodically shifted by greater than 200 mV from the oxidation potentials of 5 (E1/2 = -0.42 V) and 6 (E1/2 = -0.45 V), demonstrating the [(Im tBuN)C(Ndipp)2]- system to be a quantifiably superior electron donor.

Abstract
The reactions of tetrakis(dimethylamido)titanium(IV) [Ti(NMe2)4] with three different imidazolin-2-imines (Im(R)NH; R = tert-butyl (tBu), mesityl (Mes), and 2,6-diisopropylphenyl (Dipp)) afforded the corresponding titanium imidazolin-2-iminato complexes [(Im(R)N)Ti(NMe2)3] (R = tBu, 1a; R = Mes, 1b; R = Dipp, 1c). Treatment of complex 1a with two different carbodiimides [R'N═C═NR'; R' = cyclohexyl (Cy) and isopropyl (iPr)] resulted in the formation of imidazolin-2-iminato titanium mono(guanidinate) complex of the type [(Im(R)N)Ti(R'NC(NMe2)NR') (NMe2)2 (R' = iPr; R = tBu (2a), R = Dipp (2c); R' = Cy, R = tBu (3a)], as yellow solid in 94% yield. However, a similar reaction of 1b and 1c with 2 equiv of phenyl isocyanates at ambient temperature resulted in the formation of corresponding titanium bis(ureate) complexes [(Im(R)N)Ti{κ(2)-OC(NMe2)NPh}2(NMe2)] (R = Mes, 4b and R = Dipp, 4c). Three equivalents of phenyl isothiocyanate reacted with complex 1c to afford respective titanium tris(thioureate) complex [(Im(Dipp)N)Ti{κ(2)-SC(NMe2)NPh}2{κ(1)-SC(NMe2)NPh}] (6c). The molecular structures of 1a-c, 2a, 2c, 3a, 4c, and 6c were established by X-ray diffraction analyses, and, from the solid-state structures of 1a-c, 2a, 2c, 3a, 4c, and 6c, it was confirmed that the imidazolin-2-iminato titanium bond in each case is very short and possesses a multiple-bonding character. The imidazolin-2-iminato titanium complex 1c was utilized as a precatalyst for the addition of amine N-H bond to phenyl isocyanate. High yields of the corresponding urea derivatives were achieved under mild conditions. The mechanistic study of the aforementioned catalytic reaction was performed, and the active catalyst complex 7b was isolated using 2 equiv of iminopyrrole [2-(2,6-iPr2C6H3N═CH)C4H3NH] and the complex 4b. The molecular structure of 7b was thereafter established.

Abstract
Ground- and excited-state properties of copper(II) charge-transfer systems have been investigated starting from density-functional calculations with particular emphasis on the role of (i) the exchange and correlation functional, (ii) the basis set, (iii) solvent effects, and (iv) the treatment of dispersive interactions. Furthermore (v), the applicability of TD-DFT to excitations of copper(II) bis(chelate) charge-transfer systems is explored by performing many-body perturbation theory (GW + BSE), independent-particle approximation and ΔSCF calculations for a small model system that contains simple guanidine and imine groups. These results show that DFT and TD-DFT in particular in combination with hybrid functionals are well suited for the description of the structural and optical properties, respectively, of copper(II) bis(chelate) complexes. Furthermore, it is found an accurate theoretical geometrical description requires the use of dispersion correction with Becke-Johnson damping and triple-zeta basis sets while solvent effects are small. The hybrid functionals B3LYP and TPSSh yielded best performance. The optical description is best with B3LYP, whereby heavily mixed molecular transitions of MLCT and LLCT character are obtained which can be more easily understood using natural transition orbitals. An natural bond orbital analysis sheds light on the donor properties of the different donor functions and the intraguanidine stabilization during coordination to copper(I) and (II).
