Abstract
This article presents the synthesis of a new family of naphthyl-fused phosphepines through Ni-mediated C-C coupling. Interestingly, the chlorophosphine oxide intermediate shows strong resistance toward oxidation/hydrolysis owing to a combination of steric hindrance and pnictogen interactions. However, it can undergo substitution reactions under specific conditions. The optical/redox properties and the electronic structure of these new π-systems were studied experimentally (UV/Vis absorption, emission, cyclic voltammetry) and computationally (TD-DFT calculations, NICS investigation). Taking advantage of the luminescence of these derivatives, a blue-emitting OLED has been prepared, highlighting that these novel π-conjugated P-heterocycles appear to be promising building blocks for solid-state lighting applications.

Abstract
A facile synthesis of nitrogen-containing six-membered benzofuzed phosphacycles has been described. This cyclization reaction triggered by Tf2O provides an expedient protocol of phosphacycles with a simple operation at mild conditions. The preliminary photophysical studies of these novel materials reveal that the fluorescence intensity enhances with the molecular aggregation in the solid state and that the introduction of the sterically bulky phenanthrene group into the phosphacycles allows a significant increase in the fluorescence quantum yield.

Abstract
We report the highly enantioselective synthesis of P-chiral tertiary phosphine oxides featuring an ethynyl group via Cu(i)-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition. Newly developed chiral pyridinebisoxazolines (PYBOX) bearing a bulky C4 shielding group play an important role in achieving excellent enantioselectivity while suppressing side bis-triazoles formation in desymmetrizing prochiral diethynylphosphine oxides. Notably, by tuning the size of the C4 shielding group, it is possible to achieve excellent remote enantiofacial control in desymmetrizing phosphole oxide-diynes with the prochiral P-center farther from the ethynyl group by four covalent bonds. Time-dependent enantioselectivity is observed for these desymmetric CuAAC reactions, suggesting a synergic combination of a desymmetrization and a kinetic resolution, and our ligands prove to be better than unmodified PYBOX in both steps. This finding contributes to a highly enantioselective kinetic resolution of racemic ethynylphosphine oxides. The resulting chiral ethynylphosphine oxides are versatile P-chiral synthons, which can undergo a number of diversifying reactions to enrich structural diversity.

Abstract
Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is considered a pioneering and effective modality for cancer treatment, but it is still facing challenges of hypoxic tumors. Recently, Type I PDT, as an effective strategy to address this issue, has drawn considerable attention. Few reports are available on the capability for Type I reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation of purely organic photosensitizers (PSs). Herein, we report two new Type I PSs, α-TPA-PIO and β-TPA-PIO, from phosphindole oxide-based isomers with efficient Type I ROS generation abilities. A detailed study on photophysical and photochemical mechanisms is conducted to shed light on the molecular design of PSs based on the Type I mechanism. The in vitro results demonstrate that these two PSs can selectively accumulate in a neutral lipid region, particularly in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER), of cells and efficiently induce ER-stress mediated apoptosis and autophagy in PDT. In vivo models indicate that β-TPA-PIO successfully achieves remarkable tumor ablation. The ROS-based ER stress triggered by β-TPA-PIO-mediated PDT has high potential as a precursor of the immunostimulatory effect for immunotherapy. This work presents a comprehensive protocol for Type I-based purely organic PSs and highlights the significance of considering the working mechanism in the design of PSs for the optimization of cancer treatment protocols. Phosphindole oxide-based photosensitizers with Type I reactive oxygen species generation ability are developed and used for endoplasmic reticulum stress-mediated photodynamic therapy of tumors.![]()

Abstract
A general protocol for site-preferential mono-C-H arylation of tertiary phosphine ligands catalyzed by a ruthenium(II) complex was devised. This protocol gives access to a series of modified Buchwald-biaryl monophosphines on a gram scale in moderate to excellent yields. A catalytic cycle is proposed derived from knowledge of the intermediates observed by ESI-MS. Importantly, these monoarylated products could be further transformed into dibenzophosphole derivatives.

Abstract
This review covers recent approaches to the synthesis of tertiary phosphines through the C–
PR2 (R = alkyl or aryl) bond formation reactions using palladium. The methods include Pd-catalyzed
additions of HPR2 to double and triple bonds, substitution and dynamic kinetic resolution of diaryl
(pseudo) halide compounds, reactions of cyclopalladated complexes with MPR2 (M = Li or K) or HPR2,
intramolecular phosphination, and C–P+ bond cleavages. Together these methods allow for the preparation
of diversely functionalized achiral or enantiopure tertiary phosphines for use in organo- and transition
metal catalysis among other important applications.

Abstract
Heterasumanenes 4-6 containing chalcogen (S, Se, and Te) and phosphorus atoms have been synthesized in a one-pot reaction from trichalcogenasumanenes 1-3 by replacing one chalcogen atom with a P=S unit. The P=S unit makes 4-6 almost planar and shrinks the HOMO-LUMO gap as compared to 1-3. The bonding between Ag+ and S atom on P=S brings about a distinct change to the optical properties of 4-6; 4 in particular shows a selective fluorescence response toward Ag+ with LOD of 0.21 μm. Compounds 4-6 form complexes with AgNO3 to be (4)2 ⋅AgNO3 , (5)2 ⋅AgNO3 , and (6)2 ⋅(AgNO3 )3 . In complexes, the coordination between Ag+ and P=S is observed, which leads to shrinkage of C-P and C-X (X=S, Se, Te) bond lengths. As a result, 4, 5, and 6 are all bowl-shaped in complexes with bowl-depths reaching to 0.66 Å, 0.42 Å, and 0.40 Å, respectively. There are Ag-Te dative bonds between Ag+ and Te atom on telluorophene in (6)2 ⋅(AgNO3 )3 .

Abstract
A new synthetic route toward the synthesis of benzo[b]phospholes- and benzo[b]siloles-fused pyrenes using a transition metal-catalyzed C-H bond activation is described. The compounds were fully characterized including X-ray diffraction. A combined experimental and theoretical study shows that both the heteroatom and the substitution pattern impact the optical and redox properties.

Abstract
Various 7-substituted benzo[b]phosphole derivatives were prepared by P[double bond, length as m-dash]O-directed lithiation of 1,2,3-triphenylbenzo[b]phosphole P-oxide and subsequent iodination and cross-coupling reactions. The electron-donating groups introduced at the 7-position produced dramatic solvatofluorochromism owing to the strong charge-transfer character of the excited state of the entire π-system.

Abstract
Aromatic skeletons are generally regarded as being uncleavable because of their aromatic stabilization energy. Compared to exocyclic functionalizations of aromatic compounds, much less attention has been paid to substitutions of endocyclic atoms in aromatic cores through partial disassembly of the cyclic skeletons and subsequent ring reconstruction. In this Feature Article, we describe our endeavours to establish "aromatic metamorphosis", where general aromatic compounds such as dibenzothiophenes, dibenzofurans, and benzofurans are transformed into different ring systems using a multi-step strategy or ideally in one step.

Abstract
The parent benzophospholo[3,2-b]indole was prepared by the reaction of dichlorophenylphosphine with a dilithium intermediate, which was prepared in two steps from 2-ethynyl-N,N-dimethylaniline. Using the obtained benzophosphole-fused indole as a common starting material, simple modifications were carried out at the phosphorus center of the phosphole, synthesizing various functionalized analogs. The X-ray structure analysis of trivalent phosphole and phosphine oxide showed that the fused tetracyclic moieties are planar. The benzophosphole-fused indoles, such as phosphine oxide, phospholium salt, and borane complex, exhibited strong photoluminescence in dichloromethane (Φ = 67–75%).
