Abstract
The first sequential Corey-Chaykovsky cyclopropanation/Cloke-Wilson rearrangement between propargyl sulfonium salts and acrylonitrile derivatives has been developed, affording the tetra-substituted 2,3-dihydrofurans in generally excellent yields (57-98%) with good diastereoselectivities (7:1-18:1). In addition, chiral propargyl sulfonium salt is also suitable for this strategy, giving the optically active 2,3-dihydrofurans with good enantioselectivities. This reaction sequence was designed upon in situ generated 10π-conjugated structures from the dearomatization of indole fragments and subsequent intramolecular 1,6-addition.

Abstract
An efficient formal (3 + 1 + 1) carboannulation strategy of Morita-Baylis-Hillman (MBH) carbonates with pyridinium ylides was developed for constructing diversely functionalized spiro-cyclopentadiene oxindoles. The reaction initiates with an SN2' olefination of MBH carbonates with pyridinium ylides. The in situ generated dienes then engage in a challenging (4 + 1) ylide carboannulation, which has been rarely reported before. The reaction features broad substrate scope as well as high chemo- and regioselectivity. (3 + 1 + 1) carboannulation products could be easily transformed into interesting spiro-cyclopenta[c]furan oxindoles.

Abstract
A visible-light-driven and room temperature photo-Wolff-Kischner reaction of sulfur ylides and N-tosylhydrazones has been developed for the first time to provide modular access to alkene synthesis. The high functional group tolerance and broad substrate scope were demonstrated by more than 60 examples. Both E- and Z-olefinic stereochemistry in the products could be controlled with excellent stereoselectivity. A series of mechanistic studies support that the reaction should proceed through a radical-carbanion crossover pathway, specifically involving addition of photo-generated sulfur ylide radical cations to N-tosylhydrazones to form carbanions and subsequent Wolff-Kischner process.

Abstract
Alkyl groups are one of the most widely used groups in organic synthesis. Here, a a series of thianthrenium salts have been synthesized that act as reliable alkylation reagents and readily engage in copper-catalyzed Sonogashira reactions to build C(sp3 )-C(sp) bonds under mild photochemical conditions. Diverse alkyl thianthrenium salts, including methyl and disubstituted thianthrenium salts, are employed with great functional breadth, since sensitive Cl, Br, and I atoms, which are poorly tolerated in conventional approaches, are compatible. The generality of the developed alkyl reagents has also been demonstrated in copper-catalyzed Kumada reactions.

Abstract
A DBU-catalyzed desymmetric [3+2] cycloaddition between para-quinamines and photogenerated ketenes was developed for the first time. Under the irradiation of low-energy blue LEDs, a variety of hydroindoles bearing all-carbon quaternary centers were produced with good reaction efficiency and complete diastereoselectivity (34 examples, 45-99% yields and >95 : 5 dr). This protocol represents a new approach to synthetically significant hydroindoles, and features broad substrate scope, high functional group compatibility and mild reaction conditions.

Abstract
Sulfonium salts bearing a positively charged sulfur atom with three organic substituents have intrigued chemists for more than a century for their unusual structures and high chemical reactivity. These compounds are known to undergo facile single-electron reduction to emerge as a valuable and alternative source of aryl radicals for organic synthesis. However, the generation of non-stabilized alkyl radicals from sulfonium salts has been a challenge for several decades. Here we report the treatment of S-(alkyl) thianthrenium salts to generate non-stabilized alkyl radicals as key intermediates granting the controlled and selective outcome of the ensuing reactions under mild photoredox conditions. The value of these reagents has been demonstrated through the efficient construction of alkylboronates and other transformations, including heteroarylation, alkylation, alkenylation, and alkynylation. The developed method is practical, and provides the opportunity to convert C-OH bond to C-B and C-C bonds.

Abstract
The direct synthesis of sulfoxonium ylides from amides by selective N-C(O) cleavage is presented. The reaction proceeds through the nucleophilic addition of dimethylsulfoxonium methylide to the amide bond in acyclic twisted amides under exceedingly mild room temperature conditions. A variety of amides can be employed, and the protocol can be applied to the late-stage derivatization of pharmaceuticals. Mechanistic studies outline the relative order of reactivity of amides.

Abstract
We describe, for the first time, a highly regioselective hydrosilylation of propargylic amines. The reaction utilizes a PtCl2/XantPhos catalyst system to deliver hydrosilanes across the alkyne to afford multifunctional allylic amines in high yields. The reaction is tolerant to a wide variety of functional groups and provides high value intermediates with two distinct functional handles. The synthetic applicability of the reaction has been shown through the synthesis of diverse ambiphilic aziridines.

Abstract
Reactions of the pentaruthenium cluster complexes Ru5(μ5-C)(CO)15 (5), Ru5(μ5-C)(CO)14[μ-η2-O═C(NMe2)](μ-H) (6), and Ru5(μ5-C)(CO)15Cl(μ-H) (7) with ethyne (C2H2) in the presence of Me3NO yielded the zwitterionic complexes Ru5(μ5-C)(CO)13[μ-η2-CHCH(NMe3)] (8), Ru5(μ5-C)(CO)13[μ-η2-O═C(NMe2)](η1-E-CH═CH(NMe3)(μ-H) (9), and Ru5(μ5-C)(CO)13Cl[η1-E-CH═CH(NMe3)](μ-H) (11). Each product contains a positively charged trimethylammonioethenyl ligand, CH═CH(+NMe3), that is derived from a 2-trimethylammonioethenide, -CH═CH(+NMe3), zwitterion that formally has a positive charge on the nitrogen atom and a negative charge on the terminal enyl carbon atom. The trimethylammonioethenyl ligand, CH═CH(+NMe3) in 8 is a η2-ligand that bridges a Ru-Ru bond on a basal edge of the square-pyramidal Ru5 cluster by a combination of σ + π cooordination of the ethenyl group. Compounds 9 and 11 each contain a η1-terminally coordinated [η1-E-CH═CH(+NMe3)] ligand with an E stereochemistry at the C═C double bond in open Ru5 cluster complexes. Compound 9 was decarbonylated to yield the compound Ru5(μ5-C)(CO)12[μ-η2-O═C(NMe2)][μ-η2-CH═CH(NMe3)](μ-H) (10) containing a η2-bridging CHCH(+NMe3) ligand. Compound 10 was converted back to 9 by the addition of CO. Two zwitterionic products, Ru5(μ5-C)(CO)14[η1-E-CH═CH(NMe3)] (12) and Ru5(μ5-C)(CO)15[η1-E-CH═CH(NMe3)] (13), were obtained by the addition of CO to 8. Compound 12 is an intermediate en route to 13. Compound 12 contains a terminally coordinated η1-E-CH═CH(+NMe3) ligand on one of the basal Ru atoms of a square-pyramidal Ru5 cluster. Compound 13 also contains a terminally coordinated η1-E-CH═CH(+NMe3) ligand on the wing-tip bridging Ru atom of a butterfly Ru4C cluster. Treatment of 6 with methyl propiolate (HC≡CCO2Me) yielded the zwitterionic complex Ru5(μ5-C)(CO)13[μ-η2-O═C(NMe2)][η1-E-(MeO2C)C═C(H)NMe3](μ-H) (14) that is structurally similar to 9 but contains a η1-E-(MeO2C)C═C(H)(+NMe3) ligand. Compound 14 eliminated the NMe3 group to yield the compounds Ru5(μ5-C)(CO)13[μ-η2-O═C(NMe2)][μ-η2-(MeO2C)HC═CH] (15) which contains a bridging methoxycarbonyl-substituted alkenyl ligand and the known compound Ru5(μ5-C)(CO)13[μ-η2-O═C(NMe2)](HNMe2)(μ-H) (16).

Abstract
A ruthenium-catalyzed highly chemoselective N-alkylation of 2-pyridones has been developed, affording N-alkylated 2-pyridone derivatives in good yields and excellent N-selectivity. The key to achieve this unprecedented N-H rather than O-H insertion reaction is the use of CpRu(PPh3)2Cl as the catalyst and sulfoxonium ylides as the alkylation reagents. Moreover, this protocol is also amenable to 7-azaindoles by slightly varying the reaction conditions. Furthermore, sulfonium ylides are also suitable alkylation reagents, providing the N-alkylated 2-pyridones in good selectivity.

Abstract
A Lewis acid-promoted [6+1] annulation between sulfur ylides and modified vinyl benzoxazinanones was described. In this reaction, the newly designed vinyl benzoxazinanones could serve as a novel six-atom synthon, and the key to success is the installation of an electron-withdrawing group on the alkene moiety of the benzoxazinanones. A broad range of substrates are compatible with this mild reaction system, thereby providing a facile and practical approach for constructing a benzo[b]azepine skeleton.

Abstract
A blue-light-emitting diode (LED) promoted coupling of aryl diazoacetates with sulfur ylides is described. This protocol features mild conditions, good functional group tolerance, and broad substrate scope for both aryl diazoacetates with sulfur ylides. Under optimal reaction conditions, a wide range of trisubstituted olefins is obtained in moderate to good yield, which can be further transferred to other biologically important heterocycles after a two-step simple operation.

Abstract
A palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction of sulfoxonium ylides and benzyl bromides has been developed, which has potential safety advantages over previous carbene coupling reactions using either diazo compounds or their in situ precursors. This reaction affords polysubstituted olefins, and features good substrate tolerance and is suitable for late-stage modification of biologically active molecules. Pd-carbene migratory insertion is supposed to be involved in this coupling reaction.
