Abstract
We introduce a framework for the calculation of ground and excited state energies of bosonic systems suitable for near-term quantum devices and apply it to molecular vibrational anharmonic Hamiltonians. Our method supports generic reference modal bases and Hamiltonian representations, including the ones that are routinely used in classical vibrational structure calculations. We test different parametrizations of the vibrational wavefunction, which can be encoded in quantum hardware, based either on heuristic circuits or on the bosonic Unitary Coupled Cluster Ansatz. In particular, we define a novel compact heuristic circuit and demonstrate that it provides a good compromise in terms of circuit depth, optimization costs, and accuracy. We evaluate the requirements, number of qubits and circuit depth, for the calculation of vibrational energies on quantum hardware and compare them with state-of-the-art classical vibrational structure algorithms for molecules with up to seven atoms.

Abstract
In this article the extension of the grid-based Numerov approach to probe two coupled, localised vibrational modes is assessed. The theoretically obtained wave numbers are compared to experimental results for five increasingly complex organic molecules carrying two OH groups measured in gas-phase as well as carbon tetrachloride. By using an appropriate spacing of the associated potential energy grid a deviation of the predicted wave numbers with experiment of ≤1% is achieved for both the fundamental and the first overtone bands. In particular the calculated wave numbers of aliphatic species in vacuum underline the versatility of this approach. In addition, it is demonstrated that bicubic interpolation is a viable strategy to greatly reduce the required data points and thus, the computational effort. Comparison of predicted wave numbers obtained for different conformers with experimental data enables the identification of the most relevant conformer present in solution. Since especially the accurate calculation of overtone vibrations is known to be challenging in case of strongly anharmonic potentials such as OH bonds, the presented approach provides a particularly efficient route to study the properties of the associated overtone contribution under the influence of inter-mode coupling. This is due to the fact that the Numerov approach requires no assumption about form and composition of the vibrational wave functions. In addition, the presented method also provides one of the simplest routes to access combined excitations of the considered vibrational modes.

Abstract
We present Specific Reaction Parameter Multigrid POTFIT (SRP-MGPF), an automated methodology for the generation of global potential energy surfaces (PES), molecular properties surfaces, e.g., dipole, polarizabilities, etc. using a single random geometry as input. The SRP-MGPF workflow integrates: (i) a fully automated procedure for the global topographical characterization of a (intermolecular) PES based on the Transition State Search Using Chemical Dynamical Simulations (TSSCDS) family of methods;i (ii) the global optimization of the parameters of a semiempirical Hamiltonian in order to reproduce a given level of electronic structure theory; and (iii) a tensor decomposition algorithm which turns the resulting SRP-PES into sum of products (Tucker) form with the Multigrid POTFIT algorithm. The latter is necessary for quantum dynamical studies within the Multiconfiguration Time-Dependent Hartree (MCTDH) quantum dynamics method. To demonstrate our approach, we have applied our methodology to the cis-trans isomerization reaction in HONO in full dimensionality (6D). The resulting SRP-PES has been validated through the computation of classical on-the-fly dynamical calculations as well as calculations of the lowest vibrational eigenstates of HONO as well as high-energy wavepacket propagations.

Abstract
We report on accurate and efficient calculations of vibrationally resolved emission spectra for oligothiophenes from anharmonic vibrational configuration interaction wave-function calculations in reduced vibrational spaces. These reduced spaces are chosen based on the independent mode displaced harmonic oscillator model. Good agreement with experiment is obtained for all-trans oligothiophenes with two to five rings also when employing only a few active modes. Vibrational modes incorporating inter-ring carbon-carbon stretches and a ring breathing mode are found to be the main players in the vibrational progression for the emission from the first excited electronic state for all investigated oligothiophene derivatives. The presented framework is here illustrated for oligothiophenes, but we have made no underlying system-dependent assumptions and believe it to become a valuable tool for the rational design of fluorescence biomarkers.

Abstract
Molecular vibrations underpin important phenomena such as spectral properties, energy transfer, and molecular bonding. However, obtaining a detailed understanding of the vibrational structure of even small molecules is computationally expensive. While several algorithms exist for efficiently solving the electronic structure problem on a quantum computer, there has been comparatively little attention devoted to solving the vibrational structure problem with quantum hardware. In this work, we discuss the use of quantum algorithms for investigating both the static and dynamic vibrational properties of molecules. We introduce a physically motivated unitary vibrational coupled cluster ansatz, which also makes our method accessible to noisy, near-term quantum hardware. We numerically test our proposals for the water and sulfur dioxide molecules.

Abstract
Two efficient methods, the Eckart frame algorithm and the multiorder derivative algorithm, for vibrational frequency calculation directly based on the raw data of atomic trajectory from the state-of-the-art first-principles molecular dynamics simulation are presented. The Eckart frame approach is robust to retrieve the full set of anharmonic fundamental frequencies of any molecule from the atomic trajectory for a sufficiently long molecular dynamics simulation at a temperature close to 0 K. In addition to the fundamental vibrational frequencies, the multiorder derivative approach is universal for the calculations of vibrational frequencies based on the molecular dynamics result in a wide range of temperatures. The accuracy, efficiency, and applicability of these two methods are demonstrated through several successful examples in calculating the anharmonic fundamental vibrational frequencies of methane, ethylene, water, and cyclobutadiene.

Abstract
![]()
Quantum
mechanics/molecular mechanics (QM/MM) calculations are
applied for anharmonic vibrational analyses of biomolecules and solvated
molecules. The QM/MM method is implemented into a molecular dynamics
(MD) program, GENESIS, by interfacing with external electronic structure
programs. Following the geometry optimization and the harmonic normal-mode
analysis based on a partial Hessian, the anharmonic potential energy
surface (PES) is generated from QM/MM energies and gradients calculated
at grid points. The PES is used for vibrational self-consistent field
(VSCF) and post-VSCF calculations to compute the vibrational spectrum.
The method is first applied to a phosphate ion in solution. With both
the ion and neighboring water molecules taken as a QM region, IR spectra
of representative hydration structures are calculated by the second-order
vibrational quasi-degenerate perturbation theory (VQDPT2) at the level
of B3LYP/cc-pVTZ and TIP3P force field. A weight-average of IR spectra
over the structures reproduces the experimental spectrum with a mean
absolute deviation of 16 cm–1. Then, the method
is applied to an enzyme, P450 nitric oxide reductase (P450nor), with
the NO molecule bound to a ferric (FeIII) heme. Starting
from snapshot structures obtained from MD simulations of P450nor in
solution, QM/MM calculations have been carried out at the level of
B3LYP-D3/def2-SVP(D). The spin state of FeIII(NO) is likely
a closed-shell singlet state based on a ratio of N–O and Fe–NO
stretching frequencies (νN–O and νFe–NO) calculated for closed- and open-shell singlet
states. The calculated νN–O and νFe–NO overestimate the experimental ones by 120 and
75 cm–1, respectively. The electronic structure
and solvation of FeIII(NO) affect the structure around
the heme of P450nor leading to an increase in νN–O and νFe–NO.

Abstract
Localized normal coordinates are known to be effective in speeding up anharmonic frequency calculations by reducing the complexity of the nuclear Hamiltonian and wave function. Displacing atoms in localized coordinates can also cause relatively small changes in the electronic structure, which can be exploited for further computational efficiency improvements during ab initio electronic structure calculations of the potential energy surface by reducing the electronic basis set dependence. Three different schemes for reducing the basis set dependence have been investigated in this work. These include combining localized coordinate schemes with general mixed basis sets, distance based force-field reductions, and using coordinate specific basis sets. The importance of accurately describing electronic interactions is found to diminish both for multicoordinate terms involving the displacement of remote atoms and when describing the interactions between more remote atoms within specific coordinates.

Abstract
A similarity-transformed equation-of-motion vibrational coupled-cluster (STEOM-XVCC) method is introduced as a one-mode theory with an effective vibrational Hamiltonian, which is similarity transformed twice so that its lower-order operators are dressed with higher-order anharmonic effects. The first transformation uses an exponential excitation operator, defining the equation-of-motion vibrational coupled-cluster (EOM-XVCC) method, and the second uses an exponential excitation-deexcitation operator. From diagonalization of this doubly similarity-transformed Hamiltonian in the small one-mode excitation space, the method simultaneously computes accurate anharmonic vibrational frequencies of all fundamentals, which have unique significance in vibrational analyses. We establish a diagrammatic method of deriving the working equations of STEOM-XVCC and prove their connectedness and thus size-consistency as well as the exact equality of its frequencies with the corresponding roots of EOM-XVCC. We furthermore elucidate the similarities and differences between electronic and vibrational STEOM methods and between STEOM-XVCC and vibrational many-body Green's function theory based on the Dyson equation, which is also an anharmonic one-mode theory. The latter comparison inspires three approximate STEOM-XVCC methods utilizing the common approximations made in the Dyson equation: the diagonal approximation, a perturbative expansion of the Dyson self-energy, and the frequency-independent approximation. The STEOM-XVCC method including up to the simultaneous four-mode excitation operator in a quartic force field and its three approximate variants are formulated and implemented in computer codes with the aid of computer algebra, and they are applied to small test cases with varied degrees of anharmonicity.

Abstract
A new gas-phase infrared (IR) spectrum of acryloyl fluoride (ACRF, CH2CHCFO) with a resolution of 0.1cm-1 in the range 4000-450cm-1 was measured. Theoretical ab initio molecular structures, full quartic potential energy surfaces (PES), and cubic surfaces of dipole moments and polarizability tensor components (electro-optical properties, EOP) of the s-trans and s-cis conformers of the ACRF were calculated by the second-order Møller-Plesset electronic perturbation theory with a correlation consistent Dunning triple-ζ basis set. The numerical-analytic implementation of the second-order operator canonical Van Vleck perturbation theory was employed for predicting anharmonic IR and Raman scattering (RS) spectra of ACRF. To improve the anharmonic predictions, harmonic frequencies were replaced by their counterparts evaluated with the higher-level CCSD(T)/cc-pVTZ model, to form a "hybrid" PES. The original operator representation of the Hamiltonian is analytically reduced to a quasi-diagonal form, integrated in the harmonic oscillator basis and diagonalized to account for strong resonance couplings. Double canonical transformations of EOP expansions enabled prediction of integral intensities of both fundamental and multi-quanta transitions in IR/RS spectra. Enhanced band shape analysis reinforced the assignments. A thorough interpretation of the new IR experimental spectra and existing matrix-isolation literature data for the mixture of two conformers of ACRF was accomplished, and a number of assignments clarified.

Abstract
We asses the basis set convergence of harmonic frequencies using different explicitly correlated wave function based methods. All commonly available CCSD(T) variants as well as MP2-F12 and MP4(F12*) are considered, and a hierarchy of the different approaches is established. As for reaction and atomization energies, CCSD(F12*)(T*) is a close approximation to CCSD(F12)(T*) and clearly superior to the other tested approximations. The used scaling for the triples correction enhances the accuracy relative to CCSD(F12*)(T) especially for small basis sets and is very attractive since no additional computational costs are added. However, this scaling slightly breaks size consistency, and therefore we additionally study the accuracy of CCSD(F12*)(T*) and CCSD(F12*)(T) in the context of calculating anharmonic frequencies to check if this causes problems in the generation of the potential energy surface (PES). We find a fast basis set convergence for harmonic and anharmonic frequencies. Already in the cc-pVDZ-F12 basis, the RMSD to the CBS limit is only around 4-5 cm-1.
