Abstract
The devastating occurrence of drug resistance such as antimicrobial resistance has aroused global concerns for public health, which has propelled a continuous pursuit of safe and effective therapeutic agents. In this study, silver nanoparticles were decorated in mesoporous silica of SBA-15 coated with melanin-like polydopamine (PDA) as nanocarriers. Meanwhile, the constructed mesopore was loaded with phytochemical curcumin (CCM) through its noncovalent interactions with PDA coatings. The obtained CCM@SBA-15/PDA/Ag composites were characterized by physicochemical methods and exhibited desirable biocompatibility and low hemolytic activity. The dual-stimuli-responsive (pH and ROS) release of curcumin and/or silver nanoparticles from the CCM@SBA-15/PDA/Ag composites was achieved to reduce the side effects of noncontrolled drug leakage under physiological conditions. Additionally, compared with that of SBA-15/PDA/Ag and CCM@SBA-15/PDA, CCM@SBA-15/PDA/Ag combination showed a prolonged inhibitory effect on bacterial growth of G- E. coli (72 h) and G+ S. aureus (24 h), attributing to the enhanced effect of the bactericide of silver nanoparticles and curcumin. Furthermore, through the utilization of the nanoformulation of curcumin, improved chemotherapeutic efficiency against human cervical cancer cells (HeLa) and Taxol-resistant nonsmall cell lung cells (A549/TAX) was identified in comparison with that of free curcumin. Thus, our study rationalized the combinational design of the natural compound and silver nanoparticles as an integrated dual-responsive nanoplatform in dealing with infectious bacteria and drug resistance in cancers for enhanced therapy.

Abstract
The article presents the results of obtaining nanosilver aqueous suspensions by electrolysis method with variations in the quality and composition of water, the type, and quantity of modifying additives, as well as the creation of colloidal compositions consisting of silicon dioxide and nanosilver emulsion as a result of mechanochemical treatment of the system. As a modifier of silver nanoparticles, citric acid, glycerin, and ether-cellulose were used, which can form the thinnest layers on the surface of the metal particle, preventing particles from sticking together and precipitating them. It is shown that the use of modifiers in the preparation of a colloidal solution with silver particles and ultrasonic treatment of the system provide an increase and stabilization of the activated state of colloidal systems with silver nanoparticles and silicon dioxide. Obtained under the influence of ultrasonic treatment homogeneous and resistant to delamination soft gel systems containing silver and having antimicrobial activity are promising for the manufacture of drugs for cosmetic purposes.

Abstract
AbstractIn the present study, an aqueous leaf extract of Salvia officinalis was used to synthesize silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) and characterized with different techniques such as UV–vis spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscope (SEM), Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), Transmission electron microscope (TEM) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Subsequently, its cytotoxic effect against human cervix adenocarcinoma (HeLa) cells and antiplasmodial activity against Plasmodium falciparum were investigated. UV–vis spectrum of AgNPs displayed an absorption peak at 323 nm and TEM result revealed it to be spherical in shape with average size of 41 nm. FTIR results highlighted the key bioactive compounds that could be responsible for the reduction and capping of AgNPs and XRD analysis showed its crystalline nature with a face-centered cubic (fcc) structure. The synthesized AgNPs was found to be less cytotoxic against HeLa cells line and demonstrated good antiplasmodial potential (IC50 = 3.6 µg/mL). Findings from this study indicated that the AgNPs could serve as a template in the development of new drugs for the control of malaria and hence, further study is needed to identify and characterize the potent molecules that suppress the malaria parasite.

Abstract
Nowadays, the synthesis and characterization of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) from plant based extracts and effects of their anticancer have concerned an important interest. Marsdenia tenacissima (MT), a conventional Chinese herbal medicine, has long been used for thousands of years to treat tracheitis, asthma, rheumatism, etc. In this present study, we optimize the reaction of parameters to manage the nanoparticle size, which was categorized by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM). A different characterization method, for example, UV-visible spectroscopy (UV-vis), fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) were performed to consider the synthesized AuNPs getting from the MT leaf extract. The MT-AuNPs were analyzed for their cytotoxicity property against HepG2 cells by MTT analysis. The apoptosis was evaluated by using reactive oxygen species (ROS), migration assay, mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) and apoptotic protein expression. Interestingly, the findings of our study observed the cytotoxicity effect of synthesized MT-AuNPs at a concentration of 59.62 ± 4.37 μg after 24 hrs treatment. Apoptosis was induced by the MT-AuNPs with enhanced ROS, changed MMP and inhibit the migration assay. Finally, the apoptosis was confirmed by the considerable up-regulation of Bax, caspase-9 and caspase-3, while the anti-apoptotic protein expressions of Bcl-2 and Bcl-XL were down-regulated. Although, in this studies, we evaluated the characterization, synthesis and anticancer action of gold nanoparticles from MT (MT-AuNPS) helpful for liver cancer therapeutics.

Abstract
In this present study, silver nanoparticles (Ag/AgCl NPs) were synthesized using an aqueous leaf extract of Oedera genistifolia as a reducing agent. The biosynthesized Ag/AgCl NPs was characterized by UV-visible spectrophotometry, transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). In addition, sequel to antibacterial assay, the cytotoxic effect of the phytofabricated Ag/AgCl NPs was assessed against the HeLa cell line (human cervix adenocarcinoma). The results of the characterization of the synthesized Ag/AgCl NPs indicate the successful synthesis using plant extract as a reducing agent, with UV-Vis spectra between 290-360 nm. TEM results showed that Ag/AgCl NPs was spherical in shape with an average size of 34.2 nm. EDX analysis revealed that the particles were predominantly composed of carbon, oxygen, chlorine, and silver, while FTIR identified major phytochemical compounds, which could be responsible for bio-reducing and capping potential. XRD analysis showed the crystallinity of Ag/AgCl NPs, with a face-centred cubic structure. The studied Ag/AgCl NPs had no cytotoxic effect on HeLa cells and exhibited antibacterial activity (minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) 0.25-1 mg/mL; minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) 2-16 mg/mL) against both the Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria investigated. Findings from this study suggest that this plant as a good candidate for producing new antibacterial drugs.

Effects of green synthesised silver nanoparticles (ST06-AgNPs) using curcumin derivative (ST06) on human cervical cancer cells (HeLa) in vitro and EAC tumor bearing mice models. Int J Nanomedicine 2019; 14:5257-5270. Abstract
Background In recent years, green synthesized silver nanoparticles have been increasingly investigated for their anti-cancer potential. In the present study, we aimed at the biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using a curcumin derivative, ST06. Although, the individual efficacies of silver nanoparticles or curcumin derivatives have been studied previously, the synergistic cytotoxic effects of curcumin derivative and silver nanoparticles in a single nanoparticulate formulation have not been studied earlier specifically on animal models. This makes this study novel compared to the earlier synthesized curcumin derivative or silver nanoparticles studies. The aim of the study was to synthesize ST06 coated silver nanoparticles (ST06-AgNPs) using ST06 as both reducing and coating agent. Methods The synthesized nanoparticles AgNPs and ST06-AgNPs were characterised for the particle size distribution, morphology, optical properties and surface charge by using UV-visible spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering (DLS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Elemental composition and structural properties were studied by energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) and X-ray diffraction spectroscopy (XRD). The presence of ST06 as capping agent was demonstrated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Results The synthesized nanoparticles (ST06-AgNPs) were spherical and had a size distribution in the range of 50–100 nm. UV-Vis spectroscopy displayed a specific silver plasmon peak at 410 nm. The in vitro cytotoxicity effects of ST06 and ST06-AgNPs, as assessed by MTT assay, showed significant growth inhibition of human cervical cancer cell line (HeLa). In addition, studies carried out in EAC tumor-induced mouse model (Ehrlich Ascites carcinoma) using ST06-AgNPs, revealed that treatment of the animals with these nanoparticles resulted in a significant reduction in the tumor growth, compared to the control group animals. Conclusion In conclusion, green synthesized ST06-AgNPs exhibited superior anti-tumor efficacy than the free ST06 or AgNPs with no acute toxicity under both in vitro and in vivo conditions. The tumor suppression is associated with the intrinsic apoptotic pathway. Together, the results of this study suggest that ST06-AgNPs could be considered as a potential option for the treatment of solid tumors.

Sesquiterpenoids from Tussilago farfara Flower Bud Extract for the Eco-Friendly Synthesis of Silver and Gold Nanoparticles Possessing Antibacterial and Anticancer Activities. NANOMATERIALS 2019; 9:nano9060819. [PMID: 31151313 PMCID: PMC6631046 DOI: 10.3390/nano9060819] [Citation(s) in RCA: 26] [Impact Index Per Article: 5.2] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [Track Full Text] [Download PDF] [Figures] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 04/23/2019] [Revised: 05/26/2019] [Accepted: 05/28/2019] [Indexed: 02/06/2023]
Abstract
Sesquiterpenoids from the flower bud extract of Tussilago farfara were effectively utilized as a reducing agent for eco-friendly synthesis of silver and gold nanoparticles. The silver and gold nanoparticles had a characteristic surface plasmon resonance at 416 nm and 538 nm, respectively. Microscopic images revealed that both nanoparticles were spherical, and their size was measured to be 13.57 ± 3.26 nm for the silver nanoparticles and 18.20 ± 4.11 nm for the gold nanoparticles. The crystal structure was determined to be face-centered cubic by X-ray diffraction. Colloidal stability of the nanoparticle solution was retained in a full medium, which was used in the cell culture experiment. The antibacterial activity result demonstrated that the silver nanoparticles showed better activity (two- to four-fold enhancement) than the extract alone on both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Interestingly, the highest antibacterial activity was obtained against vancomycin-resistant Enterococci Van-A type Enterococcus faecium. Cytotoxicity on cancer cell lines confirmed that gold nanoparticles were more cytotoxic than silver nanoparticles. The highest cytotoxicity was observed on human pancreas ductal adenocarcinoma cells. Therefore, both nanoparticles synthesized with the sesquiterpenoids from T. farfara flower bud extract can be applicable as drug delivery vehicles of anticancer or antibacterial agents for future nanomedicine applications.
