Abstract
A new chiral calix[4]arene-based organocatalyst 3 bearing bis-squaramide moieties was designed and synthesized from p-tert-butylcalix[4]arene. This bifunctional organocatalyst was used in the enantioselective conjugate addition of acetyl acetone to β-nitrostyrenes. The corresponding adducts were obtained in good to excellent yields with high enantioselectivities.

Abstract
A calix[3]aramide has been synthesized bearing three triphenylphosphinic amide moieties, which formed intramolecular cyclic hydrogen bonds that suppressed its cone/partial cone inversion. The intramolecular cyclic hydrogen bonds were disrupted by DMSO, and the insertion of H2O into the hydrogen bonds triggered the spontaneous resolution of the calix[3]aramide. Within a chiral environment, such as that afforded by the presence of optically active 2-butanol, the calix[3]aramide underwent a symmetry breaking crystallization process.

Abstract
Abstract
The synthesis of two new inherently chiral calix[4]arenes (ICCs, 1 and 2), endowed with electron-rich concave surfaces, has been achieved through the desymmetrization of a lower rim distal-bridged oxacyclophane (OCP) macrocycle. The new highly emissive ICCs were resolved by chiral HPLC, and the enantiomeric nature of the isolated antipodes proved by electronic circular dichroism (CD). Using time-dependent density functional calculations of CD spectra, their absolute configurations were established. NMR studies with (S)-Pirkle’s alcohol unequivocally showed that the host-guest interactions occur in the chiral pocket comprehending the calix-OCP exo cavities and the carbazole moieties.

Abstract
For all microhelices on aromatic rings of inherently chiral calix[4]arene, an expression was derived from one approximation and one hypothesis on the basis of the electron-on-a-helix model of Tinoco and Woody as follows: , where µ = 1 for the right-handed microhelix and µ = −1 for the left-handed microhelix; and H and K are constant and greater than zero. The expression correlates microhelical electronic energy (E) with the atom polarizability difference (Δα) on both microhelix ends, which intuitively and clearly shows the impact of helical substituent polarizability on helical electronic energy. The case analysis almost entirely proves that the qualitative analysis of the helical electronic energy of inherently chiral Calix[4]arenes with the expression is scientific and can be used to effectively assign their absolute configuration.
