Abstract
An efficient approach for the synthesis of 3-substituted-3-hydroxy-2-oxindoles has been achieved via an aldol reaction of α,β-unsaturated ketones and isatins using arginine as an organocatalyst. A range of 3-substituted-3-hydroxy-2-oxindoles were obtained in moderate to high (up to 99%) yields. These 3-substituted-3-hydroxy-2-oxindoles with an additional enone moiety provide an opportunity for further elaboration of the products and for potentially interesting biological activities. In addition, the formation of 3-substituted-3-hydroxy-2-oxindole 3a was confirmed by X-ray crystallography. The possible reaction mechanism reveals that the reaction proceeds via a double action process.

Abstract
The rhodium-catalyzed 1,2-addition of chiral benzylic secondary alkylboronic esters with a coordinating carbonyl group to aldehydes was demonstrated with high levels of enantiospecificity. Pinacol boronic ester derivatives can be employed directly for the addition in the presence of KHF2 without the use of corresponding trifluoroborate salts where retention of the configuration was observed. Enantiomerically enriched β,γ-diaryl-substituted γ-butyrolactones were synthesized in good yields.

Abstract
The first example of catalytic asymmetric 1,2-addition of arylboronic acids to heteroaryl α-ketoesters has been developed for the highly efficient and enantioselective synthesis of quaternary carbon-containing heteroaromatic α-hydroxy esters. The reaction works well with a variety of α-ketoesters including 3-indoleglyoxylates, 3-benzofuranglyoxylates and 3-benzothiopheneglyoxylates under very mild conditions, affording the corresponding products in moderate to good yields with high enantiomeric excesses (up to 97%).

Abstract
We reported the first example of organocatalytic Michael addition of unprotected 3-prochiral oxindoles 1 to 1,4-naphthoquinone. Quinidine derivative (DHQD)2PYR was found to be able to catalyze this reaction in up to 83% ee, with moderate to excellent yields. This method could be used for the synthesis of enantioenriched 3,3-diaryloxindoles, and the catalytic synthesis of which was unprecedented.

Abstract
An efficient chiral phosphine-catalyzed asymmetric substitution reaction of MBH carbonates with 3-substituted benzofuran-2(3H)-ones or 3-substituted oxindoles has been described in this context, giving the corresponding allylic alkylation products bearing adjacent quaternary and tertiary stereogenic centers in high yields, moderate diastereoselectivities and high enantioselectivities under mild conditions.

Abstract
The enantioselective conjugate addition reaction of 3-aryl-substituted oxindoles with methyl vinyl ketone promoted by binaphthyl-modified bifunctional organocatalysts was investigated. The corresponding Michael adducts, containing a quaternary center at the C3-position of the oxindoles, were generally obtained in high yields with excellent enantioselectivities (up to 91% ee).

Abstract
A highly diastereo- and enantioselective formal [3 + 2] cycloaddition of α,β-unsaturated esters and 3-hydroxyoxindoles catalyzed by a dinuclear zinc-ProPhenol complex is reported. The stereoselective Michael additions of 3-hydroxyoxindoles and the subsequent transesterifications afford spirocyclic δ-lactones.
