Abstract
A stereo- and regioselective Diels-Alder reaction for the synthesis of highly substituted isoquinuclidines from dihydropyridines and electron-deficient alkenes has been developed. While reactions with activated dienophiles proceed readily under thermal conditions, the use of Lewis acid additives is necessary to facilitate cycloadditions for less reactive alkenes. This procedure affords the target compounds in high yields and diastereoselectivities.

An α-selective, visible light photocatalytic glycosylation of alcohols with selenoglycosides. Carbohydr Res 2013; 369:42-7. Abstract
Exceptionally mild procedures for the visible light photocatalytic activation of selenoglycoside donors in the presence of alcohol acceptors have been developed. This process is demonstrated with both 1-phenylselenyl-2,3,4,6-tetra-O-benzyl glucoside (1) and 1-phenylselenyl-2,3,4,6-tetra-O-benzyl galactoside (2). Catalysis is effected with both metal (Ru(bpy)3) and organocatalysts (diphenyldiselenide). Reactions afford, in all cases, primarily the α-anomers with selectivities that vary with solvent. This represents the first example of a visible light-promoted O-glycosylation.

Abstract
Pseudocapacitors have demonstrated an ability to deliver high energy and power densities. The main limitation is their poor cyclability and for this reason the architectural design of electrode materials has attracted considerable attention. Here we report the synthesis of hierarchical nanostructured material by growing Co(OH)2 nanoflakes onto MoO2 thin film. The electrode material exhibits a high capacitance of 800 F g(-1) at 20 A g(-1) with only 3% capacitance loss after 5000 cycles and high rate capability with increasing current density from 2 to 40 A g(-1), which are better than those of individual component. The enhanced pseudocapacitor performances benefit from the synergistic effect of the hierarchical nanostructure: (1) faster ion diffusion and electron transport at electrode/electrolyte interface, and (2) mitigation of the electrode destruction caused by ion insertion/deinsertion during charge-storage process. This facile design and rational synthesis offers an effective strategy to enhance the electrochemical performance of pseudocapacitors and shows promising potential for large-scale application in energy storage.

Abstract
The process of protein crosslinking comprises the chemical, enzymatic, or chemoenzymatic formation of new covalent bonds between polypeptides. This allows (1) the site-directed coupling of proteins with distinct properties and (2) the de novo assembly of polymeric protein networks. Transferases, hydrolases, and oxidoreductases can be employed as catalysts for the synthesis of crosslinked proteins, thereby complementing chemical crosslinking strategies. Here, we review enzymatic approaches that are used for protein crosslinking at the industrial level or have shown promising potential in investigations on the lab-scale. We illustrate the underlying mechanisms of crosslink formation and point out the roles of the enzymes in their natural environments. Additionally, we discuss advantages and drawbacks of the enzyme-based crosslinking strategies and their potential for different applications.

Abstract
A new and convenient synthesis of benzo-fused 8-oxabicyclo[3.2.1]octane and 9-oxabicyclo[4.2.1]nonane derivatives are described. The reaction involved a TiCl(4)-mediated tandem carbonyl or imine addition followed by a Friedel-Crafts cyclization to provide these functionalized derivatives in good to excellent yields and high diastereoselectivity.
