Abstract
Polyparameter linear free energy relationships (pp-LFERs) can predict partition coefficients for a multitude of environmental and biological phases with high accuracy. In this work, the pp-LFER substance descriptors of 40 established and alternative flame retardants (e.g., polybrominated diphenyl ethers, hexabromocyclododecane, bromobenzenes, trialkyl phosphates) were determined experimentally. In total, 251 data for gas-chromatographic (GC) retention times and liquid/liquid partition coefficients (K) were measured and used to calibrate the pp-LFER substance descriptors. Substance descriptors were validated through a comparison between predicted and experimental log K for the systems octanol/water (K(ow)), water/air (K(wa)), organic carbon/water (K(oc)) and liposome/water (K(lipw)), revealing a high reliability of pp-LFER predictions based on our descriptors. For instance, the difference between predicted and experimental log K(ow) was <0.3 log units for 17 out of 21 compounds for which experimental values were available. Moreover, we found an indication that the H-bond acceptor value (B) depends on the solvent for some compounds. Thus, for predicting environmentally relevant partition coefficients it is important to determine B values using measurements in aqueous systems. The pp-LFER descriptors calibrated in this study can be used to predict partition coefficients for which experimental data are unavailable, and the predicted values can serve as references for further experimental measurements.

Abstract
Lipids serve as important compartments in partitioning of neutral organic chemicals into organisms. Storage lipids, made up of triglycerides with various fatty acids, are among the major classes of lipids. Here, we present experimental equilibrium partition data for diverse chemicals in fish oil, linseed oil, and goose fat at 37 °C. These data, in combination with data from the literature for olive oil and milk fat, show that the fatty acid composition of triglycerides has no significant influence on the partition coefficient. This result allows the derivation of a general predictive model for partitioning into storage lipids. We have collected storage lipid/water partition coefficients for 247 compounds to calibrate polyparameter linear free energy relationships (pp-LFERs) for 37 °C, which achieved a model fit with a root mean squared error of 0.20 log units. To extend the applicability of this model toward the aquatic food chain, we also measured fish oil partition data at 7 °C. The resulting enthalpies were used to calibrate an additional pp-LFER for the temperature dependence of storage lipid/water partitioning. This model allows us to estimate partition coefficients at desired temperatures that occur under typical ambient conditions.

Abstract
The retention increment approach is described which quantifies the association equilibria of a selectand and a selector in complexation and inclusion chromatography. A thermodynamic treatment of enantioselectivity based on retention phenomena in chromatography including entropy/enthalpy compensation and the isoenantioselective temperature is advanced. Kinetic parameters of enantiomerization are discussed. Non-linear effects, both existent and elusive, are described and proposed, respectively. The enantioselectivity pertaining to catalysis vs. chromatography is compared and a unified nomenclature is proposed. Through an educational effort, this account is aimed at providing a deeper insight into chemoselective aspects of chromatography thereby stimulating further research of both established and speculative phenomena of the most intriguing manifestation of chemoselectivity, that is, of enantioselectivity.

Abstract
Measurements of retention factors by gas chromatography on up to 10 complementary stationary phases at up to 5 temperatures for each stationary phase and liquid-liquid partition coefficients in three biphasic organic solvent systems (n-hexane-acetonitrile, n-heptane-N,N-dimethylformamide and n-heptane-2,2,2-trifluoroethanol) were used to estimate solute descriptors for 54 organosilicon compounds for use in the solvation parameter model. Many of the E descriptor values (electron lone pair interactions) are negative for simple siloxanes and silanes indicating that these compound bind electron lone pairs more tightly than n-alkanes. Silanes and siloxanes with alkyl groups have near zero dipolarity/polarizability (S descriptor). The S descriptor is only modest for simple phenylsilanes, silazanes, silanols, orthosilicates, and alkoxides. All organosilicon compounds with silicon-oxygen bonds are reasonably strong hydrogen-bond bases (B descriptor) but only the silanol group is a reasonably strong hydrogen-bond acid (A descriptor). Silanes (SiH) and silazanes (SiNHSi) are weak hydrogen-bond acids. Cavity formation and dispersion interactions (V or L descriptor) are often the main component of solvation models for siloxanes and silanes that have simple alkyl and aromatic substituents. A number of physicochemical properties (vapor pressure, aqueous solubility, biphasic partition coefficients, sorption coefficients, etc.) for linear and cyclic dimethylsiloxanes can be reliably predicted from their descriptors in established models for organic compounds.
