Abstract
New classes of luminescent linear, bent-core, and star-shaped oligophenylenevinylenes (OPVs) having 1,4-para and 1,3-meta rigid aromatic cores were designed and developed. 3-Pentadecylphenol, a renewable resource molecule, was chosen as the flexible unit at the longitudinal or middle position of the OPV aromatic core for solid state ordering. Depending upon the nature of the π-core, the OPVs exhibited either mosaic-type liquid crystalline textures or spherulitic crystalline solids. The enthalpies of melting transitions revealed that the bent-core OPV structure showed enhanced solid state packing compared to linear or star-shaped OPVs. Small and wide-angle X-ray diffraction analysis confirmed layered-like assemblies in OPV molecules. Photophysical experiments such as excitation, emission, and time-resolved fluorescence decay dynamics were carried out to trace the molecular self-organization of OPV chromophores. Time correlated single photon counting technique (TCSPC) luminescent decay profiles and decay lifetimes (τ1 and τ2 values) revealed that the OPV chromophores showed faster exciton decay in the tightly packed bent-core structure. The weakly packed star-shaped OPV showed enhanced excited state luminescence stability up to 10 ns. A direct correlation between the OPV chemical structure, solid state ordering, and photophysical characteristics was established.

Abstract
Luminescent properties of two heteroleptic dibenzoylmethanate europium(III) complexes with 1,3-bis(5-pyridin-2-yl-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl)propane (H2L1) and 1,4-bis(5-pyridin-2-yl-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl)butane (H2L2) as ancillary ligands are described. The two double-layer-type electroluminescent cells with the structures: (1) ITO/NPB(40 nm)/Eu(DBM)2HL1 (40 nm)/LiF (1 nm)/Al (100 nm) and (2) ITO/NPB(40 nm)/Eu(DBM)2HL2 (40 nm)/LiF (1 nm)/Al (100 nm) emit red light originating from the europium complexes. The device 2 gives the maximum brightness of 455 cd/m2 at 19.2 V.

Abstract
Synthesis of 1,3-diphenylethenylcarbazolyl-based charge transporting materials involving electron donating hydrazone moieties and an electron withdrawing 1,3-indandione moiety is reported. The obtained materials were examined by various techniques, including differential scanning calorimetry, UV-Vis spectroscopy, xerographic time of flight technique and the electron photoemission in air method. Photoemission spectra of the amorphous films of the investigated compounds showed ionization potentials of 5.54-5.90 eV. The hole drift mobility was measured by the xerographic time of flight technique. The highest hole drift mobility, exceeding 10(-5) cm(2)/V · s at 6.4 × 10(5) V/cm electric field, was observed for the 1,3-diphenylethenylcarbazolyl derivative molecularly doped with a N,N-diphenylhydrazone moiety in the polymeric host bisphenol-Z polycarbonate (PC-Z).

Abstract
The characteristics of tissue engineered scaffolds are major concerns in the quest to fabricate ideal scaffolds for tissue engineering applications. The polymer scaffolds employed for tissue engineering applications should possess multifunctional properties such as biocompatibility, biodegradability and favorable mechanical properties as it comes in direct contact with the body fluids in vivo. Additionally, the polymer system should also possess biomimetic architecture and should support stem cell adhesion, proliferation and differentiation. As the progress in polymer technology continues, polymeric biomaterials have taken characteristics more closely related to that desired for tissue engineering and clinical needs. Stimuli responsive polymers also termed as smart biomaterials respond to stimuli such as pH, temperature, enzyme, antigen, glucose and electrical stimuli that are inherently present in living systems. This review highlights the exciting advancements in these polymeric systems that relate to biological and tissue engineering applications. Additionally, several aspects of technology namely scaffold fabrication methods and surface modifications to confer biological functionality to the polymers have also been discussed. The ultimate objective is to emphasize on these underutilized adaptive behaviors of the polymers so that novel applications and new generations of smart polymeric materials can be realized for biomedical and tissue engineering applications.

Abstract
Copolymers based on fluorene-thiophene units have presented promising efficiencies in photovoltaic devices applications. They present good transport properties mainly after thermal treatment of the polymer films. Here, we investigate the properties of bilayer devices formed by the heterojunction of the polymer F8T2 with variable thickness and the fullerene. The series resistance of the equivalent circuit associated with the device increases as the polymer film gets thicker. The current-voltage characteristics of the bilayer devices follow the Mott-Gurney law of SCLC. For the best performing device we measured 2.1% of power conversion efficiency.
