Abstract
Oxidant-free dehydrogenative coupling reactions: Recently, coupling reactions have followed a novel strategy for the construction of C==C, C==N, C==P, and S==S bonds by dehydrogenation without using any extra oxidant, via H2 evolution. These breakthroughs inspire a new direction in the construction of chemical bonds, towards more sustainable, highly atom-economical, and environmentally benign synthetic methods.

Abstract
This work describes the one-step construction of complex and important molecular frameworks through copper-catalyzed oxidations of cheap tertiary amines. Copper-catalyzed aerobic oxidations of N-hydroxyaminopropenes to form C2 -symmetric N- and O-functionalized cyclohexanes are described. Such catalytic oxidations proceed with remarkable stereocontrol and high efficiency. Reductive cleavage of the two NO bonds of these products delivers 1,4-dihydroxy-2,3-diaminocyclohexanes, which are important skeletons of several bioactive molecules.

Abstract
The results from a kinetic investigation of a Cu-catalyzed oxidative coupling reaction between N-phenyl tetrahydroisoquinoline and a silyl enol ether using elemental oxygen as oxidant are presented. By using reaction progress kinetic analysis as an evaluation method for the obtained data, we discovered information regarding the reaction order of the substrates and catalysts. Based on this information and some additional experiments, a refined model for the initial oxidative activation of the amine substrate and the activation of the nucleophile by the catalyst was developed. The mechanistic information also helped to understand why silyl nucleophiles have previously failed in a related Cu-catalyzed reaction using tert-butyl hydroperoxide as oxidant and how to overcome this limitation.

Abstract
The synthesis of 1,2,3-trisubstituted indoles was investigated. More specifically, straightforward synthetic routes towards 1-(1,2-diarylindol-3-yl)-N-PG-THIQs (PG = protecting group, THIQ = tetrahydroisoquinoline) employing transition metal-catalyzed C-H and N-H-bond functionalization were explored. It was found that the synthesis of the target compounds is strongly dependent on the order of events. Hence, depending on the requirements of a synthetic problem the most suitable and promising pathway can be chosen. Additionally, a new synthetic approach towards 1,2-diarylindoles starting from 1-arylindole could be established in the course of our investigation by using a palladium-catalyzed protocol. Such 1,2-diarylindoles were successfully reacted with N-Boc-THIQ to furnish 1,2,3-trisubstituted indoles as target compounds. Furthermore, regioselective N-arylation of protected and unprotected 1-(indol-3-yl)-THIQs was successfully conducted using either simple iron or copper salts as catalysts.

Abstract
The catalytic method features a cooperative interaction between Ni and Al imparting remote C-H alkenylation at the C5 position of imidazo[1,5-a]pyridine with alkynes at mild conditions. Exclusion of AlMe3 switches the selectivity to the C3 position. Reactions with styrene and other olefinic substrates affording C5-adducts by Ni/Al catalysis are also included.

Abstract
Versatile ruthenium(II) complexes allow for site-selective C-H oxygenations with weakly-coordinating aldehydes. The challenging C-H functionalizations proceed with high chemoselectivity by rate-determining C-H metalation. The new method features an ample substrate scope, which sets the stage for the step-economical preparation of various bioactive heterocycles.

Abstract
The aniline carbamate is introduced as a new removable directing group for C-H activation. Its versatility and ability as a directing group are demonstrated by its use in the ortho-arylation of a wide variety of aniline derivatives under palladium(II) catalysis, with symmetric diaryliodonium salts as aryl donors. The reaction differs from previously reported arylations in its selectivity and its mechanism, as elucidated by kinetic and isotopic experiments. The directing group can also be easily removed under a variety of conditions.
