Abstract
Rhodium-catalyzed C2 and C4 C–H activation/annulation of 3-(1H-indol-3-yl)-3-oxopropanenitriles with internal alkynes has been developed. Substituted and fused carbazole derivatives were obtained through formal rhodium-catalyzed (4+2) or tandem (4+2) and (5+2) cycloaddition reactions under mild reaction conditions in good yields.

Abstract

Pd-catalyzed
cross-coupling reactions that form C–N bonds
have become useful methods to synthesize anilines and aniline derivatives,
an important class of compounds throughout chemical research. A key
factor in the widespread adoption of these methods has been the continued
development of reliable and versatile catalysts that function under
operationally simple, user-friendly conditions. This review provides
an overview of Pd-catalyzed N-arylation reactions found in both basic
and applied chemical research from 2008 to the present. Selected examples
of C–N cross-coupling reactions between nine classes of nitrogen-based
coupling partners and (pseudo)aryl halides are described for the synthesis
of heterocycles, medicinally relevant compounds, natural products,
organic materials, and catalysts.

Abstract
A general and direct C3 functionalization of free (N-H) indoles with readily available electrophiles such as acid chlorides, chloroformates, thionyl chloride, and methylsulfonyl chloride via a common N-indolyl triethylborate intermediate is reported. The reaction proceeds smoothly under mild conditions in up to 93% yield. Indoles with substituents at the C2, C4, C5, C6, and C7 positions are well tolerated. The easy accessibility of a variety of important 3-acylindoles, indole-3-carboxylic esters, indole-3-sulfinic acids, and 3-(methylsulfonyl)indoles demonstrates the high degree of compatibility and practicability of this method.

Abstract
An Ir-catalyzed asymmetric synthesis of five-membered aza-spiroindolenines is achieved. Based on the detailed investigation of the reaction patterns of the aryl iminium migration, a one-pot asymmetric allylic dearomatization/migration sequence from racemic indole derivatives is realized, affording enantioenriched Pictet-Spengler-type products bearing an additional allylic stereogenic center adjacent to the C3 position of the indole core.

Abstract
A novel method to synthesise 2-arylindoles is demonstrated via direct arylation of indoles with arylsulfonyl hydrazides. Under the optimized reaction conditions, the reaction well tolerates a wide variety of functional groups to afford structurally diverse 2-arylindoles in good to excellent yields at 70 °C.

Abstract
A simple, efficient and practical metal-free C-H sulfenylation process at the C2 position of non-protected indoles has been developed. 2-Thioindoles were obtained in moderate to high yields using stable and readily available N-(thio)succinimides at room temperature in the presence of TFA.

Abstract
The first nickel catalyzed deprotonative cross coupling between C(sp3)-H bonds and aryl chlorides is reported, allowing the challenging arylation of benzylimines in the absence of directing group or stoichiometric metal activation. This methodology represents a convenient access to the (diarylmethyl)amine moiety, which is widespread in pharmaceutically relevant compounds.
