Abstract
tert-Butylphosphonic acid and rare-earth precursors are employed to construct four trinuclear rare-earth phosphonate clusters, RE3( tBuPO3)2(hfac)5(CH3OH)8]·2CH3OH (RE = Eu, Y, Pr, and Sm; hfac = hexafluoroacetylacetonate), which are composed of three RE3+ ions alternately bridged by two phosphonates. With the introduction of bismuth oxido diketonate, [Bi9O7(hfac)13], three different types of rare-earth/bismuth phosphonate clusters, Bi12RE2 (RE = Pr and Sm), Bi6Eu7, and Bi6Y9, are successfully obtained via variation of the reaction conditions, and they are the first reported examples of bismuth-oxo clusters encapsulated by cyclic rare-earth-oxo or rare-earth/bismuth-oxo phosphonate clusters, respectively. These clusters show obvious absorption in the UV region, and the Eu-containing clusters exhibit bright-red fluorescence.

Abstract
Four new [2 × 2] square grid LnIII4 clusters were successfully synthesized by employing a multidentate chelating Schiff base ligand. Magnetic studies showed that cluster 1 displays a larger magnetocaloric effect (−ΔSm = 34.46 J kg−1 K−1 for ΔH = 7.0 T at 2.0 K), while 3 exhibits slow relaxation behavior under a zero dc field, with ΔE/kB of 42.76 K and τ0 of 1.02 × 10−6 s.

Abstract
The formation of giant polyoxometalate (POM) species is relatively underexplored, as their self-assembly process is complex due to the rapid kinetics. Polyoxopalladates (POPds) are a class of POMs based on Pd, the largest of which is the {Pd84}Ac wheel, and its slower kinetics mean the system is more amenable to systematic study. Here, we show that it is possible to follow the assembly of two types of Pd wheels, {Pd84}Gly and the smaller {Pd72}Prop, formed using glycolate and propionate ligands, respectively. We analyzed the formation of {Pd72}Prop and {Pd84}Gly using mass spectrometry (SEC-HPLC-MS and preparative desalting followed by MS). This was accompanied by studies that followed the chemical shift differences between the outer/inner ligands and the free ligand in solution for the {Pd84}Ac, {Pd72}Prop, and {Pd84}Gly species using NMR, which showed it was possible to track the formation of the wheels. Our findings confirm that the macrocycles assemble from smaller building blocks that react together to form the larger species over a period of days. These findings open the way for further structural derivatives and exploration of their host-guest chemistry.

Abstract
A {Cu9} nanocluster was constructed from a new multidentate pyrazole–alcohol ligand and various small sterically-hindering anions. The ESI-MS was for the first time applied to Cu cluster chemistry to detect the solution behaviour and possible assembly mechanism of the {Cu9} cluster. The cluster also exhibited antiferromagnetic behaviour.

Abstract
Five tetranuclear lanthanide clusters were synthesized. Dy4 complex exhibits single molecule magnet (SMM) behavior and Tb4 compound shows sensing properties towards Fe3+, CrO42−, Cr2O72− and 4-nitroaniline (4-NA).
