Abstract
A novel and simple Schiff base based on 2-pyridine formaldehyde and 4-aminoantipyrine was synthesized and characterized as a fluorescent probe. In the presence of Al(3+), the fluorescent intensity has a dramatic enhancement over other examined metal ions in aqueous solution. The method of Job's plot indicated the formation of 1:1 complex between probe and Al(3+), and the possible binding mode of the system was also proposed. Moreover, other examined metal ions had no effect on the detection of Al(3+).

Abstract
Fe(3)O(4) nanoparticles (NPs) decorated with rhodamine 6G Schiff base, which exhibit high selectivity and sensitivity toward Al(3+) over other common metal ions in aqueous media under a physiological pH window via a 1:1 binding mode, have been synthesized and characterized. The resulting conjugate renders the rhodamine 6G Schiff base unit more water soluble, and the detection limit reaches 0.3 ppb in water. Moreover, can detect Al(3+) in a wide pH span (5.0-11.0) and enrich/remove excess Al(3+) in water via an external magnetic field, which indicates that it has more potential and further practical applications for biology and toxicology. Furthermore, provides good fluorescent imaging of Al(3+) in living cells.

Abstract
We have synthesized a new indole functionalized rhodamine derivative L(1) which specifically binds to Cu(2+) in the presence of large excess of other competing ions with visually observable changes in their electronic and fluorescence spectral behavior. These spectral changes are significant enough in the NIR and visible region of the spectrum and thus enable naked eye detection. The receptor, L(1), could be employed as a resonance energy transfer (RET) based sensor for detection of Cu(2+) based on the process involving the donor indole and the acceptor Cu(2+) bound xanthene fragment. Studies reveal that L(1)-Cu complex is selectively and fully reversible in presence of sulfide anions. Further, fluorescence microscopic studies confirmed that the reagent L(1) could also be used as an imaging probe for detection of uptake of these ions in HeLa cells.

Abstract
An excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) mechanism based two reactive probes HBTCo and HBTCu is reported for the selective detection of Co(2+) and Cu(+) respectively in a reducing aqueous environment. Co(2+) and Cu(+) mediated oxidative benzylic ether (C-O) bond cleavage offers ratiometric detection of these metal ions.

Abstract
2-((Naphthalen-6-yl)methylthio)ethanol (HL) was prepared by one pot synthesis using 2-mercaptoethanol and 2-bromomethylnaphthalene. It was found to be a highly selective fluorescent sensor for Al(3+) in the physiological pH (pH 7.0-8.0). It could sense Al(3+) bound to cells through fluorescence microscopy. Metal ions like Mn(2+), Fe(3+), Co(2+), Ni(2+), Cu(2+), Zn(2+), Ag(+), Cd(2+), Hg(2+), Cr(3+) and Pb(2+) did not interfere. No interference was also observed with anions like Cl(-), Br(-), F(-), SO(4)(2-), NO(3)(-), CO(3)(2-), HPO(4)(2-) and SCN(-). Experimentally observed structural and spectroscopic features of HL and its Al(3+) complex have been substantiated by computational calculations using density functional theory (DFT) and time dependent density functional theory (TDDFT).

Abstract
In this study, an assay to quantify the presence of aluminum ions using a salicylimine-based receptor was developed utilizing turn-on fluorescence enhancement. Upon treatment with aluminum ions, the fluorescence of the sensor was enhanced at 510 nm due to formation of a 1:1 complex between the chemosensor and the aluminum ions at room temperature. As the concentration of Al(3+) was increased, the fluorescence gradually increased. Other metal ions, such as Na(+), Ag(+), K(+), Ca(2+), Mg(2+), Hg(2+), Mn(2+), Co(2+), Ni(2+), Cu(2+), Zn(2+), Cd(2+), Pb(2+), Cr(3+), Fe(3+), and In(3+), had no such significant effect on the fluorescence. In addition, we show that the probe could be used to map intracellular Al(3+) distribution in live cells by confocal microscopy.

Abstract
A new selective chromo-fluorogenic probe for Fe(3+), Cr(3+) and Al(3+) is reported. Detection limits are in the μM range and the fluorogenic sensing ability could be observed by the naked eye when illuminated with UV-light. No response is observed with divalent cations.

Abstract
A new highly selective colorimetric chemosensor for Co(2+) was developed based on coumarin-conjugated thiocarbanohydrazone. The ligand senses Co(2+) in solution by changing its color from light yellow to deep pink. The sensor has been used in the development of practically viable colorimetric kits and as a staining agent for Co(2+) in microorganisms.

Abstract
A photoinduced electron transfer (PET)-based chemosensor possessing dual PET processes by simultaneously introducing both nitrogen and sulfur donors was achieved. The fluorescence signal of the free chemosensor is in a normal-off state due to the sulfur donor being insensitive to environmental pH stimuli. As a result, the device can be used over a wide pH span of 3-11. Upon binding Al(3+), a significant fluorescence enhancement with a turn-on ratio over 110-fold was triggered by the inhibition of PET processes from both the sulfur and the nitrogen donors to the fluorophore.
