Abstract
Ionic liquids are obvious candidates for use in electrochemical applications due to their ionic character. Nevertheless, relatively little has been done to explore their application in electrosynthesis. We have studied the Shono oxidation of arylamines and carbamates using ionic liquids as recyclable solvents and have noted that the viscosity of the medium is a major problem, although with the addition of sufficient co-solvent, good results and excellent recovery and recycling of the ionic liquid can be achieved.

Abstract
The carbene concentration in 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium-acetate ionic liquid is sufficiently high to act as a catalyst in benzoin condensation, hydroacylation and also in oxidation of an alcohol by using CO(2) and air. This observation reveals the potential of ionic liquid organocatalysts, uniting the beneficial properties of these two families of compounds.

Abstract
We have studied the structure of two ionic liquids confined between negatively charged mica sheets. Both liquids exhibit interfacial layering, however the repeat distance is dramatically different for the two liquids. Our results suggest a transition from alternating cation-anion monolayers to tail-to-tail cation bilayers when the length of the cation hydrocarbon chain is increased.
