Abstract
Molecular gels, the macroscopic products of a nanoscale bottom-up strategy, have emerged as a promising functional soft material. The prospects of tailoring the architecture of gelator molecules have led to the formation of unique, highly tunable gels for a wide spectrum of applications from medicine to electronics. Biorefinery is a concept that integrates the processes of converting biomass/renewable feedstock and the associated infrastructure used to produce chemicals and materials, which is analogous to petroleum-based refinery. The current review assimilates the successful efforts to demonstrate the prospects of the biorefinery concept for developing new amphiphiles as molecular gelators. Amphiphiles based on naturally available raw materials such as amygdalin, vitamin C, cardanol, arjunolic acid, and trehalose that possess specific functionality were synthesized using biocatalysis and/or chemical synthesis. The hydrogels and organogels obtained from such amphiphiles were conceptually demonstrated for diverse applications including drug-delivery systems and the templated synthesis of hybrid materials.

Abstract
Ruthenium-catalyzed ene-yne cross-metathesis is performed with stoichiometric proportions of terminal olefins and alkynes. This is made possible by the continuous addition of the alkyne to the reaction mixture. The protocol allows the ene-yne cross-metathesis reaction to be carried out with long-chain terminal olefins and in a one-pot fashion with internal olefins after shortening by ethenolysis. The efficient conversion of renewable unsaturated fatty esters from bioresources into valuable conjugated 1,3-dienes of interest for further transformations is performed using this technique under mild conditions in dimethyl carbonate; an ecofriendly solvent.

Abstract
A series of polyurethanes cross-linked with castor oil were synthesized and the influence of the polyurethane chemical structure on molecular relaxations in such systems was determined. Three different castor oil rates were used in the synthesis of the cross-linked polyurethane chains. These cross-linked polyurethanes were compared with a linear polyurethane which was obtained by chain extension with 1,4-butane diol. The dielectric properties and relaxation phenomena of the polyurethane were studied as a function of the hard segment structure and cross-linker content as structural variables and frequency and temperature as experimental variables. It was found that the formation of hydrogen bonds between urethane groups of physical networks may control the molecular mobility, but the chemical nature and content of the cross-links of the hard segments strongly influences the molecular relaxation. The relaxation peaks were observed in the temperature range of -65 to 60°C for polyurethane with different cross-linked segment contents, peaks which shifted to high temperature with the increase in frequency.

Abstract
The application of environmentally friendly thiol-ene chemistry to the preparation of biobased telechelics is presented in this work. This methodology is based on two one-pot photoinitiated thiol-ene click processes: step-growth polymerization using a 3,6-dioxa-1,8-octanedithiol and end-group postpolymerization modification with three functional thiols: 2-mercaptoethanol, 3-mercaptopropionic acid, and 3-mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane. We applied this approach to a potentially 100% biomass-derived monomer, allyl ester of 10-undecenoic acid (UDA). To show the generality and scope of this methodology, a series of well-defined telechelics with molecular weight ranging from 1000-3000 g/mol and hydroxyl, carboxyl, or trimethoxysilyl groups at the polymer terminus were prepared. An exhaustive (1)H NMR and MALDI-TOF MS analyses demonstrates the highly end-group fidelity of this methodology being an interesting procedure for the accelerated preparation of telechelics derived from divinyl monomers. UDA-based thelechelic diol prepared using this methodology was reacted with 4,4'-methylenebis(phenylisocyanate) and 1,4-butanediol as the chain extender to obtain multiblock poly(ester urethane).

Abstract
Fatty amides have been successfully synthesized from palm olein and urea by a one-step lipase catalyzed reaction. The use of immobilized lipase as the catalyst for the preparation reaction provides an easy isolation of the enzyme from the products and other components in the reaction mixture. The fatty amides were characterized using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, proton nuclear magnetic resonance ((1)H NMR) technique and elemental analysis. The highest conversion percentage (96%) was obtained when the process was carried out for 36 hours using urea to palm oil ratio of 5.2: 1.0 at 40 degrees C. The method employed offers several advantages such as renewable and abundant of the raw material, simple reaction procedure, environmentally friendly process and high yield of the product.
