Abstract
A novel approach is presented whereby nitroxide-mediated radical polymerization (NMP) is conducted in an aqueous heterogeneous system at an initial polymerization rate an order of magnitude greater than the corresponding bulk system, accompanied by an improvement in the level of control over the molecular weight distribution. NMP of styrene mediated by N-tert-butyl-N-[1-diethylphosphono-(2,2-dimethylpropyl)] nitroxide (SG1) at 90 °C was performed in a miniemulsion with exceptionally small particles of number-average diameter ∼10 nm, generated by ultrasonication combined with in situ surfactant formation. The results are discussed in terms of the effects of compartmentalization, nitroxide partitioning (exit/entry), and a rate-enhancing effect of oleic acid. These findings illustrate that it is possible to significantly improve the performance of an NMP process by the exploitation of intrinsic effects of heterogeneous systems.

Abstract
This work reports the development of a reversibly coagulatable and redispersible polystyrene latex system that can be triggered by N(2)/CO(2). The coagulatability and redispersibility of the latexes were achieved by employing 0.9-5.6 wt % (N-amidino)dodecyl acrylamide (DAm), a reactive switchable surfactant, in an emulsion polymerization of styrene under CO(2) atmosphere. The resulted latex particles were readily coagulated by N(2) bubbling at 60 °C and redispersed by CO(2) bubbling and ultrasonication, which switched amidine moieties between neutral and ionic states. The coagulation/redispersion processes were repeatable. The prepared latexes showed good stabilities against electrolytes, especially with higher charges.

Abstract
Water-soluble macroalkoxyamines are shown to be particularly well-suited initiators for nitroxide-mediated emulsion polymerization. They lead to the synthesis of amphiphilic block copolymers that self-assemble in situ into well-defined nanoobject morphologies, in agreement with the principles of polymerization-induced micellization. Depending on the molar mass of the hydrophobic block, the formed nanoparticles are hairy spherical micelles, nanofibers, or vesicles. The nanofibers are the most intriguing and spectacular structure and strongly affect the physicochemical properties of the aqueous dispersions.

Abstract
Core cross-linked star polymers of low polydispersity were efficiently prepared in high yield by RAFT-mediated emulsion and dispersion polymerizations in water at high solid content. These star polymers were demonstrated to be effective emulsifiers, and the emulsion was successfully used as template to fabricate polymer particles.
