Abstract
The coordination polymerization of silyl-protected ω-alkenols such as ω-alken-α-oxytriisopropylsilanes 1 provides poly(ω-alkenyl-α-oxytriisopropylsilalne)s with a highly isospecific microstructure ([mmmm] > 95%) when a combination of [OSSO]-type bis(phenolato) dichloro zirconium(IV) complex 2 and dried methylaluminoxane is used as the precatalyst and activator, respectively. The resulting siloxy-substituted polymers could be efficiently transformed into the corresponding functionalized polyolefins, which contained up to 90% acetyl groups and ≈7% hydroxy groups in the terminal side chains.

Abstract
An unsymmetrical bimetallic catalyst, (CF3/SO2)FI2-Ni2, having a CF3-functionalized phenoxyiminato Ni(II) center, which produces linear high-Mw polyolefin (CF3/Ni) joined to an adjacent SO2-functionalized phenoxyiminato Ni(II) center, which produces highly branched low-Mw polyolefin (SO2/Ni), was synthesized and fully characterized. In ethylene homopolymerizations, (CF3/SO2)FI2-Ni2 affords monomodal (Đ = 1.7), highly, long-chain branched (69 branches/1000 C) polyethylenes with Mw = 24 kg/mol. In contrast, bimetallic (CF3)FI2-Ni2 and (SO2)FI2-Ni2 produce high-Mw (25 kg/mol) exclusively methyl-branched (40 branches/1000 C) and low-Mw (4.5 kg/mol) highly branched (105 branches/1000 C) polyethylenes, respectively, while tandem monometallic (CF3)FI-Ni + (SO2)FI-Ni catalyst mixtures yield a bimodal polyolefin mixture (Đ = 6.4).

Abstract
For over 40 years following the polyolefin catalyst discoveries of Hogan and Banks (Phillips) and Ziegler (Max Planck Institute), chemists traversed the periodic table searching for new transition metal and lanthanide-based olefin polymerization systems. Remarkably, none of these "hits" employed iron, that is, until three groups independently reported iron catalysts for olefin polymerization in the late 1990's. The history surrounding the discovery of these catalysts was only the beginning of their uniqueness, as the ensuing years have proven these systems remarkable in several regards. Of primary importance are the pyridine-bis(imine) ligands (herein referred to as PDI), which produced iron catalysts that are among the world's most active for ethylene polymerization, demonstrated "staying power" despite over 15 years of ligand improvement efforts, and generated highly active polymerization systems with cobalt, chromium, and vanadium. Although many ligands have been employed in iron-catalyzed polymerization, the PDI family has thus far provided the most information about iron's capabilities and tendencies. For example, iron systems tend to be highly selective for ethylene over higher olefins, making them strong candidates for producing highly crystalline polyethylene, or highly linear α-olefins. Iron PDI polymerizes propylene with 2,1-regiochemistry via a predominantly isotactic, chain end control mechanism. Because the first insertion proceeds via 1,2-regiochemistry, iron (and cobalt) PDI systems can be tailored to make highly linear dimers of α-olefins by "head-to-head" coupling, resulting from a switch in regiochemistry after the first insertion. Finally, PDI ligands, while not being surpassed in activity, have inspired the development of related ligand families and complexes, such as pendant donor diimines (PDD), which are also highly efficient at producing linear α-olefins. This Account will detail a variety of oligomerization and polymerization results achieved with PDI and PDD catalysts. Our studies on ligand modification are discussed, but numerous ligands have been synthesized by others. Computational approaches, identification of catalyst active sites, noninnocent ligand studies, commercialization efforts, and other outstanding research are only briefly mentioned, at most. The reader is directed to review articles where appropriate, in order to address the cursory treatment of these areas.

Abstract
Treatment of p-tert-butylcalix[6]areneH6 (L(6)H6) with in situ [LiVO(Ot-Bu)4] afforded, after work-up, the dark green complex [Li(MeCN)4][V2(O)2Li(MeCN)(L(6)H2)2]·8MeCN (1·8MeCN). On one occasion, the reaction led to the formation of a mixture of products, the bulk of which differing from 1 only in the amount of solvate, viz.2·9.67MeCN. The second minor, yellow product has the formula {[(VO2)2(L(6)H2)(Li(MeCN)2)2]·2MeCN}n (3·2MeCN), and comprises a 1D polymeric structure with links through the L(6)H2 ligand and Li2O2 units. When the reverse order of addition was employed such that lithium tert-butoxide (7.5 equivalents) was added to L(6)H6, and subsequently treated with VOCl3 (2 equiv.), the complex {[VO(THF)][VO(μ-O)]2Li(THF)(Et2O)][L(6)]}·2Et2O·0.5THF (4·2Et2O·0.5THF), which contains a trinuclear motif possessing a central, octahedral vanadyl centre linked via oxo bridges to two tetrahedral (C3v) vanadyl centres, was isolated. The calix[6]arene in 4 is severely twisted and adopts a ‘down, down, down, down, out, out’ conformation. Use of excess lithium tert-butoxide led to a complex very similar to 4, differing only in the solvent of crystallization, namely 5·Et2O·2THF. The ability of 1 and 5 to act as pre-catalysts for ethylene polymerization in the presence of a variety of co-catalysts and under various conditions has been investigated. Co-polymerization of ethylene with propylene and with 1-hexene have also been conducted; results are compared versus VO(OEt)Cl2.

Abstract
A combined experimental and quantum chemical study has been performed on rac- and meso-[Zr{1-Me2 Si(3-η5 -C9 H5 Et)2 }Cl2 ] (rac- and meso-1) and their hydrogenated forms (rac- and meso-2) to understand ligand effects and guide ligand design for more active ansa-bis(indenyl) zirconocenes for the polymerisation of ethylene. The rac-ansa-zirconocene rac-[Zr(1-Me2 Si{3-Et-(η5 -C9 H9 )}2 )Cl2 ] (rac-2) has been prepared and fully characterised by NMR spectroscopy and elemental analysis. The molecular structure of rac-2 has also been determined by single-crystal XRD. The behaviour of the catalysts was analysed in the polymerisation of ethylene and higher activities were obtained for rac-1 and its hydrogenated form rac-2. The influence of the stereochemistry and hydrogenation of the indenyl ligand on the experimental activities has been evaluated by computational studies. The differences along the reaction pathway are dominated by changes in the relative stabilities of the catalytic intermediates. A hybrid density functional B3LYP study, in the presence of toluene as the solvent, indicates that the rac forms give rise to more active species than their meso counterparts. The hydrogenation of the rac forms is a very promising approach to increase activities in polymerisation, in contrast to the meso forms. Finally, the global mechanism rate constants for the polymerisation reaction for each metallocene were calculated by using the thermodynamic formulation of transition-state theory to complement the computational study.
