Catheter-induced acute aortic insufficiency with hemodynamic collapse during PTCA: an unreported complication

Rare case of iatrogenic aortic valve leaflet tear following a diagnostic coronary angiogram

We report a rare case of a 44-year-old male who underwent a diagnostic coronary angiogram following a non-ST elevation myocardial infarction complicated by an aortic valve leaflet tear requiring surgical intervention. Routine transthoracic echocardiogram demonstrated a mobile echogenic structure prolapsing into the left ventricular outflow tract. An intraoperative transesophageal echocardiogram confirmed that the structure originated from the ventricular side of left coronary cusp, causing malcoaptation between left and right coronary cusps, and subsequent moderate to severe aortic regurgitation.

Echocardiographically documented acute aortic insufficiency induced by Amplatz left guide catheter

This paper examines a case of sudden systolic pressure fall, tachycardia, low pulse pressure, and high pulmonary artery wedge pressure due to acute aortic insufficiency which was induced by an Amplatz left (AL-1) guide catheter used for better guide support during percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty of the right coronary artery. AL guide catheters can cause acute aortic insufficiency, of which practitioners should be aware when sudden hemodynamic collapse occurs.

Postinfarction acute aortic valve regurgitation and cardiac rupture

We report the case of a 71-year-old man who developed acute aortic regurgitation after a myocardial infarct. At operation he was also found to have a contained cardiac rupture.
