Abstract
Precise and high-resolution coupling of functional proteins with micro-transducers is critical for the manufacture of miniaturized bioelectronic devices. Moreover, electrochemistry on microelectrodes has had a major impact on electrochemical analysis and sensor technologies, since the small size of microelectrode affects the radial diffusion flux of the analyte to deliver enhanced mass transport and electrode kinetics. However, a large technology gap has existed between the process technology associated with such microelectronics and the conventional bio-conjugation techniques that are generally used. Here, we report on a high-resolution and rapid geometric protein self-patterning (GPS) method using solvent-assisted protein-micelle adsorption printing to couple biomolecules onto microelectrodes with a minimum feature size of 5 μm and a printing time of about a minute. The GPS method is versatile for micropatterning various biomolecules including enzymes, antibodies and avidin-biotinylated proteins, delivering good geometric alignment and preserving biological functionality. We further demonstrated that enzyme-coupled microelectrodes for glucose detection exhibited good electrochemical performance which benefited from the GPS method to maximize effective signal transduction at the bio-interface. These microelectrode arrays maintained fast convergent analyte diffusion displaying typical steady-state I-V characteristics, fast response times, good linear sensitivity (0.103 nA mm-2 mM-1, R2 = 0.995) and an ultra-wide linear dynamic range (2-100 mM). Our findings provide a new technical solution for the precise and accurate coupling of biomolecules to a microelectronic array with important implications for the scaleup and manufacture of diagnostics, biofuel cells and bioelectronic devices that could not be realized economically by other existing techniques.

Abstract
A novel, simple and label-free multianalyte immunoassay system is presented here by integrating arrayed electrodes on a silicon chip via MEMS. The chip is consisted of six Au disk electrodes, an Au counter electrode and an Ag/AgCl reference electrode. Semi-insulating poly(o-phenylenediamine) (PoPD) was utilized to co-polymerize and immobilize antibodies at the arrayed Au electrodes, and wider linear detection range was obtained than those prepared with completely insulating PoPD. Electrochemical cyclic voltammogram (CV), AC impedance spectroscopy, AFM and fluorescence microscopy were employed to characterize the system. The arrayed electrodes offered exact control of deposition position via electrochemical operation, allowing selectively immobilization of different antibodies at desired positions on a single chip. Specific recognition of antibody (Ab) to corresponding antigen (An) was quantitatively monitored by cyclic voltammograms in the presence of electrochemical redox probe, ferrocene methanol. The proposed immunoassay chips showed sensitive response to three liver fibrosis markers, hyaluronic acid (HA), collagen type IV (IV-C) and lamin (LN) at ng/mL level simultaneously and specifically in a tiny amount of volume, usually 50 microL. The results obtained via chips were well consistent with those obtained by commercial radio immunoassays (RIA).

Abstract
New modern technologies require new materials. During the past decade, the movement towards nanodimensions in many areas of technology aroused a huge interest in nanostructurized materials. The present article reviews recent works dealing with electrochemistry-related aspects of nanostructurized conducting polymers. Electrochemical synthesis and some properties of nanostructurized conducting polymers, and nanocomposites derived from conducting polymers and metals, carbon, and inorganic and organic materials are considered. Some potential areas for electrochemistry-related applications of nanocomposites are highlighted, including batteries, supercapacitors, energy conversion systems, corrosion protection, and sensors.

Abstract
The preparations and performances of the novel amperometric biosensors for glucose based on immobilized glucose oxidase (GOD) on modified Pt electrodes are described. Two types of modified electrodes for the enzyme immobilization were used in this study, polyvinylferrocene (PVF) coated Pt electrode and gold deposited PVF coated Pt electrode. A simple method for the immobilization of GOD enzyme on the modified electrodes was described. The enzyme electrodes developed in this study were called as PVF-GOD enzyme electrode and PVF-Au-GOD enzyme electrode, respectively. The amperometric responses of the enzyme electrodes were measured at constant potential, which was due to the electrooxidation of enzymatically produced H2O2. The electrocatalytic effects of the polymer, PVF, and the gold particles towards the electrooxidation of the enzymatically generated H2O2 offers sensitive and selective monitoring of glucose. The biosensor based on PVF-Au-GOD electrode has 6.6 times larger maximum current, 3.8 times higher sensitivity and 1.6 times larger linear working portion than those of the biosensor based on PVF-GOD electrode. The effects of the applied potential, the thickness of the polymeric film, the amount of the immobilized enzyme, pH, the amount of the deposited Au, temperature and substrate concentration on the responses of the biosensors were investigated. The optimum pH was found to be pH 7.4 at 25 degrees C. Finally the effects of interferents, stability of the biosensors and applicability to serum analysis of the biosensor were also investigated.

Abstract
Sensitive amperometric biosensors for phenols compounds, based on tyrosinase (polyphenoloxidase, PPO) immobilized on a Pt electrode in an electropolymerized poly-amphiphilic pyrrole matrix or cross-linked with glutaraldehyde, were constructed and compared. Steady-state amperometric measurements, performed at -50 mV vs. SCE in aqueous phosphate buffer containing LiClO(4) 0.1 M (pH 7) as well as in a chloroform solution containing 0.1 M C(6)H(5)CH(2)N(CH(3))(3)Cl, were used in order to compare the electroanalytical and kinetic parameters of the investigated amperometric biosensors in aqueous and nonaqueous media. It was established that the polypyrrole matrix has a higher efficiency for enzyme retention resulting in higher bioelectrode sensitivity, both in aqueous buffer (690 microA M(-1)) and in chloroform (149 microA M(-1)).

Abstract
A new type miniaturized glucose sensor with good selectivity and stable current response has been developed. The structure consists of a recessed rectangular microfabricated platinum electrode, inner layer of two electropolymerized nonconducting films, and outer bilayer of poly(tetrafluoroethylene) (Teflon) and polyurethane (PU) films. Glucose oxidase (GOx) is entrapped during the electropolymerization of a poly(m-phenylenediamine) (PMPD) film in an acetate buffer (AB) solution, on which a highly interference-resistive PMPD film is deposited in a phosphate buffered saline (PBS) solution. The second PMPD film causes no significant decrease in accessibility of glucose to GOx. The inner layer maintains less than 1% permeability to acetaminophen for 12 days. The fairly adhesive outer layer allows stable current response. Due to high permeability, the information about enzyme activity can be obtained without serious error in spite of outer layer intervening between enzymes and solution. The apparent Michaelis-Menten constant and the maximum steady-state current density were 24 mM and 80 microA cm(-2), respectively.
