Abstract
Electrocyclizations of acyclic conjugated π-motifs have emerged as a versatile and effective strategy for accessing various ring systems with excellent functional group tolerability and controllable selectivity. Typically, the realization of 6π-electrocyclization of heptatrienyl cations to afford seven-membered motif has proven difficult due to the high-energy state of the cyclizing seven-membered intermediate. Instead, it undergoes the Nazarov cyclization, affording a five-membered pyrrole product. However, the incorporation of a Au(i)-catalyst, a nitrogen atom and tosylamide group in the heptatrienyl cations unexpectedly circumvented the aforementioned high energy state to afford a seven-membered azepine product via 6π-electrocyclization in the annulation of 3-en-1-ynamides with isoxazoles. Therefore, extensive computational studies were carried out to investigate the mechanism of Au(i)-catalyzed [4+3] annulation of 3-en-1-ynamides with dimethylisoxazoles to produce a seven-membered 4H-azepine via the 6π-electrocyclization of azaheptatrienyl cations. Computational results showed that after the formation of the key α-imino gold carbene intermediate, the annulation of 3-en-1-ynamides with dimethylisoxazole occurs via the unusual 6π-electrocyclization to afford a seven-membered 4H-azepine exclusively. However, the annulation of 3-cyclohexen-1-ynamides with dimethylisoxazole occurs via the commonly proposed aza-Nazarov cyclization pathway to majorly generate five-membered pyrrole derivatives. The results from the DFT predictive analysis revealed that the key factors responsible for the different chemo-, and regio-selectivities observed are the cooperating effect of the tosylamide group on C1, the uninterrupted π-conjugation pattern of the α-imino gold(i) carbene and the substitution pattern at the cyclization termini. The Au(i)-catalyst is believed to assist in the stabilization of the azaheptatrienyl cation.

Abstract
Heterocyclisation of tert-butyldimethylsilyl (TBS) protected γ-hydroxy-α,β-unsaturated ketones catalysed by para-toluenesulfonic acid (p-TSA) to form substituted furans is reported. The reaction proceeds under mild conditions at room temperature in methanol to give a range of furan products (21 examples, up to 98% yield). Mechanistic experiments suggest the reaction proceeds via in situ deprotection followed by catalytic dehydrative heterocyclisation.

Abstract
Titanium enolates, in situ-generated from readily available ketones and titanium tetraisopropoxide, undergo domino cross-coupling/cyclodehydration or domino Aldol-addition/cyclocondensation with α-chloroketones to provide synthetically valuable furan derivatives. The domino process tolerates a variety of cyclic and acyclic ketones and chloroketones, producing polysubstituted furans and bi-, tri-, and tetracyclic fused furans.

Abstract
In recent years, transition-metal-catalyzed tandem cyclization reactions of alkynes, especially those involving a metal carbene intermediate, have received worthwhile interest, as this type of reaction does not require the use of risky and potentially explosive diazo compounds as starting materials for carbene generation. A significant and general strategy for the stereospecific synthesis of 5-membered cycles is Nazarov cyclization based on the 4π-conrotatory electrocyclization of a conjugated pentadienyl cation to afford a cyclopentenyl cation. In this review, we introduce an overview of recent advances in the transition-metal-catalyzed Nazarov cyclization of alkynes via a metal carbene intermediate, and categorize these reactions according to the structure of the metal carbene. Our aim is to accelerate advancements in this enchanting area of research.

Abstract
AbstractThe deprotonation of 3-aryl-substituted alkyl propargyl ethers with n-butyllithium provides an ambident anion that reacts with carbonyl compounds to provide mixtures of γ-substituted products with alkoxyallene substructure and of α-substituted propargyl ethers. The ratio of the two product types strongly depends on the solvent: in diethyl ether the γ-substituted products predominate whereas the more polar tetrahydrofuran favors the α-adducts. The primary addition products undergo 5-endo-trig or 5-endo-dig cyclizations under various reaction conditions to afford isomeric furan derivatives. The highest selectivity in favor of α-substituted products was achieved by employing a MOM-protected propargyl ether. During the protonation step no evidence for a proton shift leading to an isomeric allenyl anion was found. A brief mechanistic discussion tries to rationalize the observed regioselectivities.

Abstract
New gold-catalyzed [4+3]-annulations of 3-en-1-ynamides with isoxazoles afford 4H-azepines efficiently; this process involves 6π electrocyclizations of gold-stabilized 3-azaheptatrienyl cations. In the presence of Zn(OTf)2, the resulting 4H-azepines undergo skeletal rearrangement to furnish substituted pyridine derivatives. We subsequently develop new catalytic [4+2]-annulations between the same 3-en-1-ynamides and isoxazoles to deliver substituted pyridine products using Au(i)/Zn(ii) catalysts. This work reports the first success of the 6π electrocyclizations of heptatrienyl cations that are unprecedented in literature reports.

Abstract
A series of penta- and heteropentadienyl [CH2CHCHCHXBe]+, (X = CH2, O, NH, S) complexes has been theoretically studied. All calculated complexes show beryllium atoms with two, three, and five coordination numbers. The density functional theory (DFT) was used to determine the electron and structural behavior of those beryllium complexes. The nature of the ligands plays an important role in the form of binding to the beryllium atom. Beryllium structures 1-4 are able to coordinate only one hydrogen molecule. A molecular orbital analysis for all complexes was performed in order to know more about the nature of their bonding scheme.

Abstract
(E)-3-(hetero)aryl-1-(2-((E)-(indolin-1-ylimino)methyl)phenyl)prop-2-en-1-ones 1 undergo 6-exo-trig cyclization reactions upon treatment with BF(3)·Me(2)S in dichloromethane at low temperature to give the tetralones 10 in good yield. This cyclization process can be considered to be an intramolecular Michael-type addition which is accompanied by an internal redox reaction as the indoline fragment is oxidized to indole with simultaneous hydrogen shift to nitrogen atom N1 and the α-carbon atom of the Michael system. The reactions at the iminic centers take place via umpolung of the classical carbonyl reactivity. The reaction is diastereoselective and affords exclusively 3,4-disubstituted α-tetralones 10 as trans-diastereomers. According to quantum chemical calculations the reactions take place under kinetic control with the trans-diastereomer being the kinetically favored product as it has the lower activation barrier compared to the cis-diastereomer.

Abstract
The regiospecific nucleophilic substitution during the ruthenium catalyzed allylic alkylation of 1,3-unsymmetrical disubstituted allylic esters was demonstrated. The nucleophile was selectively introduced at the position originally substituted with leaving group in the 2-DPPBA or ip-pybox ligated [RuCl(2)(p-cymene)](2) catalyzed allylic alkylation of 1,3-unsymmetrical disubstituted allylic esters. The chirality of the optically active allylic esters was also transferred to the alkylated products.

Abstract
A new quantum mechanical scheme to calculate electronic correlation energies, spin-component-scaled MP2, was tested as a tool to predict reaction energies and barriers in computational organic chemistry. Three common pericyclic reactions with known unsatisfactory MP2 descriptions were reinvestigated with the modified MP2 approach, in which the parallel and anti-parallel spin components of the correlation energy are scaled separately. The SCS-MP2 calculated reaction and activation energies of nine Diels-Alder reactions, four [3,3] sigmatropic rearrangements, and ten electrocyclization reactions are compared to those of the MP2, B3 LYP, QCISD(T), and G3 methods. For each, the SCS-MP2 results are in excellent agreement with the experimental data and compare far more favorably to G3 than both MP2 and B3 LYP. Careful evaluation of the effect of the size of the atomic orbital (AO) basis set shows that the larger expansions improve the agreement with experiment for the SCS-MP2 method, while they get worse for both MP2 and B3 LYP.
