Abstract
High gas-uptake capacity is desirable for many reasons such as gas storage and sequestration. Moreover, ultrahigh capacity can enable a practical separation process by mitigating the selectivity factor that sometimes compromises separation efficiency. Herein, a single-walled nickel-organic framework with an exceptionally high gas capture capability is reported. For example, C2H4 and C2H6 uptake capacities are at record-setting levels of 224 and 289 cm3 g-1 at 273 K and 1 bar (169 and 110 cm3 g-1 at 298 K and 1 bar), respectively. Such ultrahigh capacities for both gases give rise to an excellent separation performance, as shown for C2H6/C2H4 with breakthrough times of 100, 60 and 30 min at 273, 283 and 298 K and under 1 atm. This new material is also shown to readily remove ethylene released from fruits, and once again, its ultrahigh capacity plays a key role in the extraordinary length of time achieved in the preservation of the fruit freshness.

Abstract
With the aim of developing new and effective drug delivery systems for cancer treatments, great effort has been devoted to the field of porous metal–organic framework (MOF) platforms because of their controlled drug release performance, high drug loading, and acceptable biocompatibility. In this contribution, we report a MOF [Gd2(H2O)3(SDBA)3](DMA)3] (1, DMA=N,N-dimethylacetamide) with open O donor sites functionalised 1D pores, which has been fabricated using a bent polycarboxylic acid organic linker 4,4′-sulfonyldibenzoic acid (H2SDBA) under solvothermal conditions. Single crystal X-ray diffraction (SCRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), elemental analysis, X-ray powder diffraction (XPRD), and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) analysis were used to characterise the as-prepared complex 1. 5-Fluorouracil (5-Fu) loaded 1 was soaked in phosphate buffer saline (PBS) and the invitro drug release performance was monitored by HPLC analysis under different pH conditions. At the pH values of 7.4 and 6.5, different profiles of pH-responsive release were achieved, indicating that the drug release performance of 5-Fu loaded 1 is pH sensitive. Grand Canonical Monte Carlo (GCMC) simulation results demonstrate that the open O donor sites in the framework of 1 account for the slower drug release rate. The prepared carrier is found to be bio-compatible with MG63 cells (cancerous tissue) and oral epidermal cells (normal tissue), when tested by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay. The 5-Fu loaded carrier also shows a promising growth inhibition effect towards the human bone tumour cells MG63.

Abstract
A novel neutral polymer, {[Co2(C7H3NO4)2(H2O)4]·2H2O}n, was hydrothermally synthesized using pyridine-2,5-dicarboxylate (2,5-PDC(2-)) as the organic linker. It features a two-dimensional layer structure constructed from one-dimensional {[Co(2,5-PDC)2](2-)}n chains interlinked by [Co(H2O)4](+) units. The two Co(II) cations occupy special positions, sitting on inversion centres. Each 2,5-PDC(2-) anion chelates to one Co(II) cation via the pyridine N atom and an O atom of the adjacent carboxylate group, and links to two other Co(II) cations in a bridging mode via the O atoms of the other carboxylate group. In this way, the 2,5-PDC(2-) ligand connects three neighbouring Co(II) centres to form a two-dimensional network. The two-dimensional undulating layers are linked by extensive hydrogen bonds to form a three-dimensional supramolecular structure, with the uncoordinated solvent molecules occupying the interlamellar region.

Abstract
An infinite one-dimensional cadmium metal-organic chain, namely catena-poly[aquabis(μ3-2,2'-{[1,2-phenylenebis(methylene)]bis(sulfanediyl)}dibenzoato)dicadmium(II)], [Cd2(C22H16O4S2)2(H2O)]n, was synthesized by solvothermal reaction of Cd(NO3)2·4H2O and 2,2'-{[1,2-phenylenebis(methylene)]bis(sulfanediyl)}dibenzoic acid (H2L). The Cd(II) centres have six-coordinate CdS2O4 and CdSO5 geometries. Due to the flexible -CH2-S- arms, the L(2-) ligand adopts both syn and anti conformations. Four Cd(II) cations are linked by two syn L(2-) ligands to form a centrosymmetric planar tetranuclear Cd(II) core, which is further extended through bonding to the anti L(2-) ligands to form a one-dimensional metal-organic chain. Adjacent one-dimensional chains are connected by C-H···π interactions and nonclassical C-H···O hydrogen bonds to form the resultant three-dimensional supramolecular framework.

Abstract
In the title compound, {[NiTb2(C14H8N2O5)4(H2O)4]·4H2O}n, the TbIII ion is coordinated by one water molecule and seven O atoms from four 5-(pyridine-4-carboxamido)isophthalate (L) ligands in a distorted square-antiprismatic arrangement, while the NiII ion, lying on an inversion center, is six-coordinated in an octahedral geometry by two pyridine N atoms, two carboxylate O atoms and two water molecules. One L ligand bridges two TbIII ions and one NiII ion through two carboxylate groups and one pyridine N atom. The other L ligand bridges two TbIII ions and one NiII ion through two carboxylate groups, while the uncoordinating pyridine N atom is hydrogen bonded to an adjacent coordinating water molecule. Extensive O—H⋯O, N—H⋯O and O—H⋯N hydrogen bonds play an important role in stabilizing the crystal structure.

Abstract
The Schiff bases, L1, L2, and L3, are synthesized from the condensation of 5,7-dihydroxy-6-formyl-2-methylbenzopyran-4-one (L) with 2-aminopyridine (1), p-phenylenediamine (2), and o-phenylenediamine (3). The prepared Schiff bases react with lanthanum (III), neodymium (III), and erbium (III) nitrate to give complexes with stoichiometric ratio (1 : 1) (ligand : metal). The binuclear complexes of Er(III) with L3 and the three metal ions with L2 are separated. The complexes have been characterized by elemental analysis, molar conductance, electronic absorption, and infrared, 1H-NMR spectral studies. The presence of hydrated and coordinated water molecules is inferred from thermogravimetric analysis. Thermal degradation studies show that the final product is the metal oxide. The luminescence properties of the Nd(III) and Er(III) complexes in dimethylformamide (DMF) solutions were investigated.

Abstract
In the centrosymmetric polymeric title compound, {[CoEr2(C14H8N2O5)4(H2O)4]·4H2O}n, the ErIII cation has a coordination number of eight and is surrounded by seven carboxylate O atoms from four 5-(pyridine-4-carboxamido)isophthalate (L) ligands and one water molecule, forming a distorted square-antiprismatic arrangement. The CoII cation is located on an inversion center and is coordinated by two pyridine N atoms, two carboxylate O atoms and two water molecules in a distorted octahedral geometry. The asymmetric unit contains two anionic L ligands. One bridges two ErIII cations and one CoII cation through two carboxylate groups and one pyridine N atom, while the other bridges two ErIII cations and one CoII cation through two carboxylate groups. Extensive O—H⋯O, O—H⋯N and N—H⋯O hydrogen-bonding interactions are present in the crystal, involving all uncoordinated water molecules and the uncoordinated pyridine N atom of one of the ligands bonded to an adjacent coordinated water molecule. The title compound is isotypic with the gadolinium analogue.

Abstract

Extensive O—H⋯O, N—H⋯O and O—H⋯N hydrogen bonding is present in the crystal.
