Abstract
A series of structurally chiral cyclic imines efficiently yields chiral nitrones and nitroalkanes. This is the first report of the synthesis of nitro groups by C═N bond cleavage of imines through a nitrone intermediate.

Abstract
Acetonitrile suspensions of the dichlorido complexes [MCl2 (κ4 C,N,N',P-L)] [M=Rh (1), Ir (2)] react with AgSbF6 in a 1:2 molar ratio affording the bis-acetonitrile complexes [M(κ4 C,N,N',P-L)(NCMe)2 ][SbF6 ]2 (3 and 4). The reaction takes place in a sequential manner and the intermediates can be isolated varying the M:Ag molar ratio. In a 2:1 molar ratio, it affords the dimetallic monochlorido-bridged compounds [{MCl(κ4 C,N,N',P-L)}2 (μ-Cl)][SbF6 ] (5 and 6). In a 1:1 molar ratio, the monosubstituted solvato-complexes [MCl(κ4 C,N,N',P-L)(Solv)][SbF6 ] (Solv=H2 O, MeCN, 7-10) were obtained. Finally, in a 2:3 molar ratio, it gives complexes 11 and 12 of formula [{M(κ4 C,N,N',P-L)(NCMe)(μ-Cl)}2 Ag][SbF6 ]3 in which a silver cation joints two cationic monosubstituted acetonitrile-complexes [MCl(κ4 C,N,N',P-L)(NCMe)]+ through the remaining chlorido ligands and two Ag⋅⋅⋅C interactions with one of the phenyl rings of each PPh2 group. In all the complexes, the aminic nitrogen and the central metal atom are stereogenic centers. In the trimetallic complexes 11 and 12, the silver atom is also a stereogenic center. The formation of the cation of the dimetallic complexes 5 and 6, as well as that of the trimetallic complexes 11 and 12, takes place with chiral molecular self-recognition. Experimental data and DFT calculations provide plausible explanations for the observed molecular recognition. The new complexes have been characterized by analytical, spectroscopic means and by X-ray diffraction methods.

Abstract
Two new tetradentate C2-symmetric pseudopeptidic ligands derived from Val and Phe containing two amino and two amido groups and a central o-substituted aromatic spacer have been prepared. Their complexes with Cu(2+), Zn(2+), and Ni(2+) have been studied by potentiometry, UV-vis spectrophotometry, FT-IR, and ESI-MS. The presence of the aromatic spacer provides Cu(2+) complexes with stability constants several orders of magnitude higher than those observed for related ligands containing aliphatic central spacers. Besides, the formation of [MH-2L] complex species is favored. Crystal structures for the corresponding Cu(2+) and Ni(2+) have been obtained, revealing the metal atom in an essentially square-planar geometry, although, in several instances, the oxygen atom of an amide carbonyl of a second complex species can act as a fifth coordination site. In the case of Zn(2+), the only crystal structure obtained displays a square-pyramidal arrangement of the metal center. Finally, preliminary experiments show the catalytic activity of some of these complexes, in particular, Zn(2+) complexes, for epoxide ring-opening with using aniline as the nucleophile in a ligand accelerated process.

Abstract
A new bis tridentate ligand 2,2'-bipyridine-3,3'-[2-pyridinecarboxamide] H(2)L(1) which can bind transition metal ions has been synthesized via the condensation of 3,3'-diamino-2,2'-bipyridine together with 2-pyridine carbonyl chloride. Two copper(II) coordination compounds have been prepared and characterized: [Cu(2)(L(1))(hfac)(2)].3CH(3)CN.H(2)O (1) and [Cu(2)(L(1))Cl(2)].CH(3)CN (2). The single-crystal X-ray structures reveal that complex 1 crystallizes in the triclinic space group P1, with the unit cell parameters a = 12.7185(6) A, b = 17.3792(9) A, c = 19.4696(8) A, alpha = 110.827(2) degrees, beta = 99.890(3) degrees, gamma = 97.966(3) degrees, V = 3868.3(3) A3, Z = 4, R = 0.0321 and R(w) = 0.0826. Complex 2 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2(1)/n with the unit cell parameters a = 12.8622(12) A, b = 9.6100(10) A, c = 19.897(2) A, beta = 102.027(3) degrees, V = 2405.3(4) A(3), Z = 4, R = 0.0409 and R(w) = 0.1005. In both complexes the ligand is in the dianionic form and coordinates the divalent Cu(II) ions via one amido and two pyridine nitrogen donor atoms. In 1, the coordination geometry around both Cu(II) ions is best described as distorted trigonal bipyramidal where the remaining two coordination sites are satisfied by hexafluoroacetylacetonate counterions. In 2 both Cu(II )ions adopt a (4 + 1) distorted square pyramidal geometry. One copper forms a longer apical bond to an adjacent carbonyl oxygen atom, whereas the second copper is chelated to a neighboring Cu-Cl chloride ion to afford a mu-Cl-bridged dimerized [Cu(2)(L(1))Cl(2)](2) complex. The magnetic susceptibility data for 1 (2 -270 K), reveal the occurrence of weak antiferromagnetic interactions between the Cu(II) ions. In contrast, variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements for 2 reveal more complex magnetic properties, with the presence of a weak antiferromagnetic exchange (J = -10.1 K) between the copper ions in each dinuclear copper complex and a stronger ferromagnetic exchange interaction (J = 32.9 K) between the Cu(II) ions of the Cu(mu-Cl)(2)Cu dimeric bridging units.
