Abstract
A regiodivergent allylation of 1H-indoles highly selectively at the C3 and N1 positions with β-acyl allylic sulfides through desulfurative C-C/C-N bond-forming reactions has been developed under mild conditions. Notably, the remarkable site-selective switch can be achieved by a delicate choice of solvents and bases. This cost-efficient method displays a broad substrate scope, good functional compatibility, and excellent site-selectivity, thus offering a divergent synthesis of indole substituted α-branched enones, which possess diverse potential opportunities for further applications and derivatization.

Abstract
The 4-arylated pyrimidin-2-yl tosylate derivatives, easily prepared from cheap commercial materials, reacted efficiently with propargyl alcohol/NaOBut to give the corresponding 4-arylated 2-propargyloxy-pyrimidine derivatives which, in a one-pot reaction catalysed by CuSO4·5H2O/sodium ascorbate, reacted with NaN3 and hexyl or benzyl bromide to give a series of 2-(1-hexyl- or 1-benzyl-1,2,3-triazol-4-yl)methoxy-pyrimidine derivatives in good yields.

Abstract
Tetraphosphorus decasulfide (P(4)S(10)) in pyridine has been used as a thionating agent for a long period of time. The moisture-sensitive reagent has now been isolated in crystalline form, and the detailed structure has been determined by X-ray crystallography. The thionating power of this storable reagent has been studied and transferred to solvents such as acetonitrile in which it has proven to be synthetically useful and exceptionally selective. Its properties have been compared with the so-called Lawesson reagent (LR). Particularly interesting are the results from thionations at relatively high temperatures (∼165 °C) in dimethyl sulfone as solvent. Under these conditions, for instance, acridone and 3-acetylindole could quickly be transformed to the corresponding thionated derivatives. Glycylglycine similarly gave piperazinedithione. At these temperatures, LR is inefficient due to rapid decomposition. The thionated products are generally cleaner and more easy to obtain because in the crystalline reagent, impurities which invariably are present in the conventional reagents, P(4)S(10) in pyridine or LR, have been removed.

Abstract
Fully unsubstituted 4,4-difluoro-4-bora-3a,4a-diaza-s-indacene (BODIPY) 1 was prepared. Reaction of 8-thiomethylbodipy 2 with triethylsilane in the presence of a catalytic amount of Pd and a stoichiometric amount of copper(I) thienyl-2-carboxylate (CuTC) in THF at 55 degrees C gave compound 1 in nearly quantitative yield. This compound displays high quantum yields (up to 93%) in polar solvents including water. Its optical properties and crystal structure are discussed.

Abstract
We report results from a computational investigation of the oxidative deboronation of boroglycine, H2N-CH2-B(OH)2, using H2O and H2O2 as the reactive oxygen species (ROS) to yield aminomethanol, H2N-CH2-OH; these results complement our study on the protodeboronation of boroglycine to produce methylamine, H2N-CH3 (Larkin et al. J. Phys. Chem. A 2007, 111, 6489-6500). Second-order Møller-Plesset (MP2) perturbation theory with Dunning-Woon correlation-consistent (cc) basis sets were used for the calculations with comparisons made to results from density functional theory (DFT) at the PBE1PBE/6-311++G(d,p)(cc-pVDZ) levels. The effects of a bulk aqueous environment were also incorporated into the calculations employing PCM and CPCM methodology. Using H2O as the ROS, the reaction H2O + H2N-CH2-B(OH)2 --> H2N-CH2-OH + H-B(OH)2 was calculated to be endothermic; the value of DeltaH(298)(0) was +12.0 kcal/mol at the MP2(FC)/cc-pVTZ computational level in vacuo and +13.7 kcal/mol in PCM aqueous media; the corresponding value for the activation barrier, DeltaH(double dagger), was +94.3 kcal/mol relative to the separated reactants in vacuo and +89.9 kcal/mol in PCM aqueous media. In contrast, the reaction H2O2 + H2N-CH2-B(OH)2 --> H2N-CH2-OH + B(OH)3 was calculated to be highly exothermic with an DeltaH(298)(0) value of -100.9 kcal/mol at the MP2(FC)/cc-pVTZ computational level in vacuo and -99.6 kcal/mol in CPCM aqueous media; the highest-energy transition state for the multistep process associated with this reaction involved the rearrangement of H2N-CH2-B(OH)(OOH) to H2N-CH2-O-B(OH)2 with a DeltaH(double dagger) value of +23.2 kcal/mol in vacuo relative to the separated reactants. These computational results for boroglycine are in accord with the experimental observations for the deboronation of the FDA approved anticancer drug bortezomib (Velcade, PS-341), where it was found to be the principle deactivation pathway (Labutti et al. Chem. Res. Toxicol. 2006, 19, 539-546).

Abstract
Although a plethora of highly selective and reliable methods for the construction of C-C bonds are known to organic chemists, there is growing interest in the development of new protocols that offer different or orthogonal reactivity to that of existing methods. In 2000, Liebeskind and Srogl described a mechanistically unprecedented transition-metal-catalyzed cross-coupling of thioesters with boronic acids to produce ketones under neutral conditions. This desulfitative cross-coupling process is catalytic in palladium(0), stoichiometric in copper(I), and applicable to a range of organosulfur derivatives and nucleophilic organometallic reagents. In this Minireview, we highlight recent applications of this intriguing cross-coupling reaction in modern organic synthesis, with an emphasis on cases in which traditional methods for C-C bond formation have failed.

Abstract
The palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling of cyclic thioamides with arylboronic acids in the presence of stoichiometric amounts of a copper(I) cofactor is described. The desulfitative carbon-carbon cross-coupling protocol is performed under neutral conditions and can be applied to a range of heterocyclic structures with embedded thioamide fragments. Successful carbon-carbon cross-coupling is independent of the ring size, aromaticity/nonaromaticity, the presence of additional heteroatoms, or other functional groups in the starting thioamide structure. Employing controlled microwave irradiation at 100 degrees C, most cross-couplings can be completed within 2 h and proceed in high yields. An advantage of using thioamides as starting materials is the fact that the system can be tuned to an alternative carbon-sulfur cross-coupling pathway by changing to stoichiometric copper(II) under oxidative conditions. Both types of thioamide cross-couplings are orthogonal to the traditional base-catalyzed Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling of aryl halides with boronic acids.
