Abstract
A nucleophilic allylation of acylsilanes in water was developed, generating versatile functionalized tertiary α-silyl alcohols in high yields. With the assistance of hydrogen bonding, a reaction model of less reactive acylsilane was achieved. Unlike the conventional strategy, transition metals and an additional Lewis acid catalyst were not required, and rate acceleration was observed in water.

Abstract
A bimetallic tandem catalysis-enabled enantioselective cycloisomerization/carbonyl-ene reaction was developed. The reaction proceeded well with a broad range of N-propargylamides and acylsilanes, affording the target chiral 5-oxazoylmethyl α-silyl alcohols in up to 95% yield and 99% ee under mild conditions. Importantly, this facile protocol was available for the late-stage modification of several bioactive molecules. Based on the mechanistic study and control experiments, a possible catalytic cycle and transition state are proposed to elucidate the reaction process and enantioinduction.

Abstract
The asymmetric cyanation of acylsilanes affords densely functionalized tetrasubstituted chiral carbon centers bearing silyl, cyano, and hydroxy groups, which are of particular interest in synthetic and medicinal chemistry. However, this method has been limited to a few enzymatic approaches, which employ only one substrate because of substrate specificity. Here we show the non-enzymatic catalytic asymmetric cyanation of acylsilanes using a chiral Lewis base as an enantioselective catalyst, trimethylsilyl cyanide as a cyanating reagent, and isopropyl alcohol as an additive to drive catalyst turnover. High enantio- and site-selectivities are achieved in a catalytic manner, and a variety of functional groups are installed in optically active acylsilane cyanohydrins, thus overcoming the limitations imposed by substrate specificity in conventional enzymatic methods. A handle for the synthetic application of the products is also established through the development of a catalyst for protecting acylsilane cyanohydrins, which are unstable and difficult to protect alcohols.

Abstract
A chiral Lewis acid-catalyzed enantioselective addition of thiols to silyl glyoxylates was developed. The reaction proceeds well with a broad range of thiols and acylsilanes, affording the target tertiary chiral α-silyl–α-sulfydryl alcohols with multi-hetero-atom carbon stereocenters in excellent yields (up to 99%) and enantioselectivities (up to 98% ee). A series of control experiments were conducted to elucidate the reaction mechanism. Enantioselective addition of thiols to silyl glyoxylates for construction of a multi-hetero-atom substituted carbon stereocenter was described.![]()

Abstract
An efficient Prins reaction of silyl glyoxylates in the presence of an aqueous ZnCl2 complex as a catalyst was developed, providing functionalized tertiary α-silyl alcohols in high yields under mild conditions. A preliminary investigation indicated that the aqueous ZnCl2 complex acted as a dual functional catalyst of Brønsted and Lewis acid to activate the carbonyl groups of silyl glyoxylates via a dual-activation model.

Abstract
Chiral salen-metal complexes are among the most versatile asymmetric catalysts and have found utility in fields ranging from materials chemistry to organic synthesis. These complexes are capable of inducing chirality in products formed from a wide variety of chemical processes, often with close to perfect stereoinduction. Salen ligands are tunable for steric as well as electronic properties, and their ability to coordinate a large number of metals gives the derived chiral salen-metal complex very broad utility in asymmetric catalysis. This review primarily summarizes developments in chiral salen-metal catalysis over the last two decades with particular emphasis on those applications of importance in asymmetric synthesis.

Abstract
The zinc-mediated regioselective addition reactions of diethyl bromomalonate and aromatic and aliphatic alkynes were investigated for the synthesis of vinyl malonates. When the vinyl organo-zinc intermediates were reacted with acid chlorides 2H-pyran-2-ones were obtained while the application of oxalyl chloride and an amine led to tetracarbonyl derivatives in a one-pot multi-step reaction sequence.

Abstract
We have developed an enantioselective, copper(I)-catalyzed addition of terminal alkynes to racemic isochroman acetals. This method is one of the first transition-metal-catalyzed approaches to enantioselective additions to prochiral oxocarbenium ions. In this reaction, TMSOTf is used to form the oxocarbenium ion in situ under conditions compatible with simultaneous formation of the chiral copper acetylide. By using a bis(oxazoline) ligand, good yields and enantioselectivities are observed for a variety of enantioenriched 1-alkynyl isochromans.

Abstract
A catalytic enantioselective method for the formation of alkyne-substituted all-carbon quaternary stereogenic centers is reported. Additions of alkynylaluminums to alkyl-, aryl-, carboxylic ester-, or silyl-substituted allylic phosphates are promoted by 1.0-5.0 mol % loadings of NHC-Cu complexes derived from air-stable and commercially available CuCl(2)·2H(2)O. The requisite Al-based reagents are prepared through treatment of the corresponding aryl-, heteroaryl-, alkyl-, or alkenyl-substituted terminal alkynes with diisobutylaluminum hydride in the presence of 5.0 mol % Et(3)N at ambient temperature. The desired 1,4-enynes are obtained in up to 98% yield and >99:1 enantiomeric ratio. Selected Au-catalyzed cyclizations involving the alkyne unit of the enantiomerically enriched products are presented as a demonstration of the method's utility in chemical synthesis.

Abstract
Acylsilanes as a new type of "hard" carbon prenucleophile reacted with monosubstituted allyl reagents under Pd-catalyzed asymmetric allylic alkylation reaction conditions to provide products with high regio-, diastereo-, and enantioselectivities. The usefulness of the protocol has been demonstrated by the ready conversion of the allylated products into the corresponding alcohols, esters, and ketones with retention of stereochemistry as well as by the enantioselective synthesis of cis-3-ethyl-4-phenylpiperidine and cinnamomumolide.
