Abstract
Imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine has attracted much interest in drug development because of its potent medicinal properties, therefore the discovery of novel methods for its synthesis and functionalization continues to be an exciting area of research. Although transition metal catalysis has fuelled the most significant developments, extremely beneficial metal-free approaches have also been identified. Even though pertinent reviews focused on imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine synthesis, properties (physicochemical and medicinal), and functionalization at the C3 position have been published, none of these reviews has focused on the outcomes obtained in the field of global ring functionalization. We wish here to describe a brief synthesis and an overview of all the functionalization reactions at each carbon atom, viz, C2, C3, C5, C6, C7 and C8 of this scaffold, divided into sections based on site-selectivity and the type of functionalization methods used.

Abstract
Biomass-derived commodity chemical 5-hydroxymethyl furfural is an underutilized C6-platform chemical derived from cellulose that is ideal to prepare next-generation value-added products. We have developed an efficient synthetic strategy to access 2,5-diaryl nonsymmetric furans from 5-hydroxymethyl furfural utilizing decarboxylative cross-couplings. A key finding was that the presence of the hydroxymethyl handle enhances the yields of the palladium-catalyzed decarboxylative cross-coupling reaction. The method provides access to a broad-range nonsymmetric 2,5-diaryl furans where each arene can be systematically introduced as required. Additionally, this green synthetic strategy was employed for a formal synthesis of the muscle relaxant Dantrolene in excellent yields.

Abstract
Furfuryl carbamates are labile and require care to be accessed by activating furfuryl alcohols. An alternative oxanorbornadiene (OND)-based strategy is presented for the preparation of 5-R-substituted furfuryl carbamates via the reactions of amines with intermediate OND carbonates. The resulting OND carbamates, which are stable for several months, undergo thiol mediated retro-Diels-Alder reaction to deliver the desired furfuryl carbamates in a single flask. Conditions for the selective hydrolysis of furfuryl carbamates in the presence of tert-butyloxycarbonyl (Boc) groups were identified, and it was shown that furfuryl carbamates can be used as a prodrug handle.

Abstract
Triaryl-2-pyridylidene effectively facilitates the gold-catalyzed oxidative C-H arylation of heteroarenes with arylsilanes as a unique electron-donating ligand on gold. The employment of the 2-pyridylidene ligand, which is one of the strongest electron-donating N-heterocyclic carbenes, resulted in the rate acceleration of the C-H arylation reaction of heterocycles over conventional ligands such as triphenylphosphine and a classical N-heterocyclic carbene. In situ observation and isolation of the 2-pyridylidene-gold(III) species, as well as a DFT study, indicated unusual stability of gold(III) species stabilized by strong electron donation from the 2-pyridylidene ligand. Thus, the gold(I)-to-gold(III) oxidation process is thought to be facilitated by the highly electron-donating 2-pyridylidene ligand.

Abstract
An efficient phosphine-free direct C-H arylation of thiophenes at the α-position has been developed at low catalyst loading of bis(alkoxo)palladium complex (Cat.I, 0.1-0.2 mol %). The developed synthetic method can be applied to the synthesis of α-aryl/heteroaryl thiophenes from aryl or heteroaryl bromides in good to excellent yields and is compatible with the substrates bearing electron-donating or electron-withdrawing groups. The reactivities of the 2- and 5-positions of thiophenes are equivalent and not dependent on steric hindrance under optimal conditions. This condition can also be applied to other heterocyclic moieties such as benzothiophene, benzofuran, and pyrrole with high conversion yields.

Abstract
Polycondensation via direct C-H arylation of thiophene derivatives gave thiophene- and bithiophene-based alternating copolymers in good yields. The optimization of the reaction conditions was investigated in terms of a catalytic system and reaction time. Under optimized conditions, the polycondensation reaction of 3,3',4,4'-tetramethylbithiophene with 2,7-dibromo-9,9-dioctylfluorene gave poly[2,7-(9,9-dioctylfluorene)-alt-5,5'-(3,3',4,4'-tetramethyl-2,2'-bithiophene)] with a molecular weight of 31 800 in 91% yield. The polycondensation reaction proceeded with 2 mol % of Pd(OAc)2 without the addition of a phosphine ligand in a short reaction time (3 h). Six kinds of π-conjugated polymers were synthesized by the polycondensation reaction without the use of bifunctional organometallic reagents as monomers.
