Abstract
Carbon-hydrogen bond functionalizations provide an attractive method for streamlining organic synthesis, and many strategies have been developed for conducting these transformations. Hydride-abstracting reactions have emerged as extremely effective methods for oxidative bond-forming processes due to their mild reaction conditions and high chemoselectivity. This review will predominantly focus on the mechanism, reaction development, natural product synthesis applications, approaches to catalysis, and use in enantioselective processes for hydride abstractions by quinone, oxoammonium ion, and carbocation oxidants. These are the most commonly employed hydride-abstracting agents, but recent efforts illustrate the potential for weaker ketone and triaryl borane oxidants, which will be covered at the end of the review.

Abstract
The cleavage of an unactivated aryl nitro group triggered by alkyl radicals enables a dearomative cyclization, affording diversified alkylated spiro[5.5]trienones in good yields. Using readily available compounds (toluene and analogues, alkanes, ethers, ketones, etc.) as alkylating reagents, various alkyls have been implanted into the spirocycles via C(sp3)-H and Ar-NO2 bond activation with high functional group tolerance. This protocol provides a distinct method for the activation of the aryl nitro group.

Abstract
The donor-acceptor ability of frustrated Lewis pairs (FLPs) has led to widespread applications in organic synthesis. Single electron transfer from a donor Lewis base to an acceptor Lewis acid can generate a frustrated radical pair (FRP) depending on the substrate and energy required (thermal or photochemical) to promote an FLP into an FRP system. Herein, we report the Csp3-Csp cross-coupling reaction of aryl esters with terminal alkynes using the B(C6F5)3/Mes3P FLP. Significantly, when the 1-ethynyl-4-vinylbenzene substrate was employed, the exclusive formation of Csp3-Csp cross-coupled products was observed. However, when 1-ethynyl-2-vinylbenzene was employed, solvent-dependent site-selective Csp3-Csp or Csp3-Csp2 cross-coupling resulted. The nature of these reaction pathways and their selectivity has been investigated by extensive electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) studies, kinetic studies, and density functional theory (DFT) calculations both to elucidate the mechanism of these coupling reactions and to explain the solvent-dependent site selectivity.

Abstract
Direct oxidative coupling of different inert C-H bonds is the most straightforward and environmentally benign method to construct C-C bonds. In this paper, we developed a Pd-catalyzed intramolecular oxidative coupling between unactivated aliphatic and aryl C-H bonds. This chemistry showed great potential to build up fused cyclic scaffolds from linear substrates through oxidative couplings. Privileged chromane and tetralin scaffolds were constructed from readily available linear starting materials in the absence of any organohalides and organometallic partners.

Abstract
Diarylmethanes are cardinal scaffolds by virtue of their unique structural feature including the presence of a benzylic CH2 group that can be easily functionalized to generate a variety of fascinating molecules holding immense importance in pharmaceutical, agrochemical, and material sciences. While the originally developed protocols for benzylic C-H functionalization in diarylmethanes employing base-mediated and metal-catalyzed strategies are still actively used, they are joined by a new array of metal-free conditions, offering milder and benign conditions. With the recent surge of interest towards the synthesis of functionalized diarylmethanes, numerous choices are now available for a synthetic organic chemist to transform the benzylic C-H bond to C-C or C-X bond offering the synthesis of any molecule of choice. This review highlights benzylic methylene (CH2 ) functionalizations of diaryl/heteroarylmethanes utilizing various base-mediated, transition-metal-catalyzed, and transition-metal free approaches for the synthesis of structurally diverse important organic molecules, often with a high chemo-, regio- and enantio-selectivity. This review also attempts to provide analysis of the scope and limitations, mechanistic understanding, and sustainability of the transformations.

Abstract
Alkynes are among the most fundamentally important organic compounds and are widely used in synthetic chemistry, biochemistry, and materials science. Thus, the development of an efficient and sustainable method for the preparation of alkynes has been a central concern in organic synthesis. Cross-dehydrogenative coupling utilizing E-H and Z-H bonds in two different molecules can avoid the need for prefunctionalization of starting materials and has become one of the most straightforward methods for the construction of E-Z chemical bonds. This Review summarizes recent progress in the preparation of internal alkynes by cross-dehydrogenative coupling with terminal alkynes.

Abstract
Tubulin polymerization is critical in mitosis process, which regulates uncontrolled cell divisions. Here, we report a new class of pyrene-pyrazole pharmacophore (PPP) for targeting microtubules. Syntheses of seven pyrenyl-substituted pyrazoles with side-chain modification at N-1 and C-3 positions of the pyrazole ring were accomplished from alkenyl hydrazones via C-N dehydrogenative cross-coupling using copper catalyst under aerobic condition. Tubulin polymerization with PPPs was investigated using docking and biological tools to reveal that these ligands are capable of influencing microtubule polymerization and their interaction with α-, β-tubulin active binding sites, which are substituent specific. Furthermore, cytotoxicity response of these PPPs was tested on cancer cells of different origin, such as MCF-7, MDA-MB231, and C32, and also noncancerous normal cells, such as MCF-10A. All newly synthesized PPPs showed excellent anticancer activities. The anticancer activities and half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) values of all PPPs across different cancer cell lines (MCF-7, MDA-MB231, and C32) have been demonstrated. 1,3-Diphenyl-5-(pyren-1-yl)-1H-pyrazole was found to be best among all other PPPs in killing significant population of all of the cancerous cell with IC50 values 1 ± 0.5, 0.5 ± 0.2, and 5.0 ± 2.0 μM in MCF-7, MDA-MB231, and C32 cells, respectively.

Abstract
Direct functionalization of the benzylic C-H bond of diarylmethanes is an important strategy for the synthesis of diarylmethine-containing compounds. However, the methods developed to date for this purpose require a stoichiometric amount (usually more) of either a strong base or an oxidant. Reported here is the first catalytic benzylic C-H bond addition of diarylmethanes to styrenes and conjugated dienes. A potassium zincate complex, generated from potassium benzyl and zinc amide, acts as a catalyst and displays good activity and chemoselectivity. Considering the atom economy of the reaction and the ready availability of the catalyst, this reaction constitutes a practical, efficient method for diarylalkane synthesis.

Abstract
A visible light mediated highly selective benzylic C-H bond functionalization for intermolecular C-N and C-O bond formation is reported. This cross-dehydrogenative coupling reaction demonstrates a straightforward protocol for incorporating the heteroaromatics to the benzylic position. Benzylic oxidation of various alkyl aryls to corresponding carbonyl compounds has also been reported.

Abstract
A novel and metal-free acrylamides formation between arylpropynes and hydroxylamine hydrochloride through sp(3) C-H and C-C bond cleavage has been achieved with DDQ as an oxidant. The mechanistic study shows that the acrylamides are formed through a three-step tandem sequence, including cross-dehydrogenative-coupling (CDC) reaction, aza-Meyer-Schuster rearrangement and Beckmann rearrangement.
