Abstract
Iron-catalyzed highly regio- and enantioselective organic transformations with generality and broad substrate scope have profound applications in modern synthetic chemistry; an example is herein described based on cis-FeII complexes having metal- and ligand-centered chirality. The cis-β FeII(N4) complex [FeII(L)(OTf)2] (L = N,N′-bis(2,3-dihydro-1H-cyclopenta-[b]quinoline-5-yl)-N,N′-dimethylcyclohexane-1,2-diamine) is an effective chiral catalyst for highly regio- and enantioselective alkylation of N-heteroaromatics with α,β-unsaturated 2-acyl imidazoles, including asymmetric N1, C2, C3 alkylations of a broad range of indoles (34 examples) and alkylation of pyrroles and anilines (14 examples), all with high product yields (up to 98%), high enantioselectivity (up to >99% ee) and high regioselectivity. DFT calculations revealed that the “chiral-at-metal” cis-β configuration of the iron complex and a secondary π–π interaction are responsible for the high enantioselectivity. A cis-β FeII complex having metal- and ligand-centered chirality catalyzes highly regio- and enantioselective alkylation of indoles (at the N1, C2, or C3 position), pyrroles and anilines with α,β-unsaturated 2-acyl imidazoles (48 examples, up to 99% ee).![]()

Abstract
The enantioselective transformations of indoles preferentially take place in the more-reactive azole ring. However, the methods for the enantioselective functionalization of the indole benzene ring are scarce. In this paper, a series of bifunctional (thio)urea derivatives were used to organocatalyze the enantioselective Friedel-Crafts hydroxyalkylation of indoles with isatins. The resulting products were obtained in good yields (65-90%) with up to 94% enantiomer excess (ee). The catalyst type and the substrate scope were broadened in this methodology.

Abstract
A series of highly reactive metal-free chiral phosphoric acids possessing positively charged phosphonium ion substituents are reported and have been applied to Friedel-Crafts alkylations of indoles and 2,2,2-trifluoromethyl aryl ketones. These catalysts are orders-of-magnitude more active and have similar or better enantioselectivities than their noncharged analogues. High tolerance to a range of substrates with electron-withdrawing and electron-donating substituents was also observed.

Abstract
An efficient copper-catalyzed synthesis of indol-3-yl α-(difluoromethyl)-α-(trifluoromethyl)carbinols is developed. The reaction proceeds in good to excellent yields through a Friedel-Crafts-type mechanism, and a variety of indoles with commonly occurring functional groups such as formyl, cyano, nitro, alkyloxide, and halogen are well tolerated. In addition, these carbinol products are readily transformed into diversified difluoromethylated dinitrile indol-3-yl derivatives. This strategy provides a general synthetic method for ready construction of difluoromethylated sp3 carbon centers.
