Abstract
A facile and efficient method for the diastereo/regioselective synthesis of highly functionalized spiro-oxetane oxindoles has been described. The 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene (DBU)-catalyzed reaction proceeds via spiro-annulation of isatins and allenoates. The reaction is compatible with a wide range of isatins containing electron-donating groups (EDGs) and electron-withdrawing groups (EWGs) with various allenoates affording the corresponding products in acceptable yields. It is noteworthy that this is the first protocol for constructing structurally diverse motifs of highly functionalized spiro-oxetane oxindoles of pharmaceutical relevance.

Abstract
Lewis base catalysis provides powerful synthetic strategies for the selective construction of carbon-carbon and carbon-heteroatom bonds. Thus continuous efforts have been deployed to develop effective methodologies involving Lewis base catalysis. The nucleophilicity and steric hindrance of Lewis base catalyst often plays a major role in catalytic reactivity and selectivity in the reaction. In the past decades, tremendous progress has been made in the divergent construction of valuable motifs under Lewis base catalysis. In this review, we provide a comprehensive and updated summary of Lewis base-catalysed chemo-, diastereo- and enantiodivergent reaction, as well as the related mechanism will be highlighted in detail.

Abstract
A regioselective [3+2] cyclisation reaction between 2-arylidene-1,3-indanedione and ethyl 2,3-butadienoate catalysed by triphenylphosphine has been demonstrated to synthesize functionalised spirocyclic cyclopentenes. The reaction tolerated various electron-rich and electron-deficient aryl substituted 2-arylidene-1,3-indanediones with high to excellent chemical yields (up to 99%) and moderate to good regioselectivity (up to 5 : 1). DFT studies have also been carried out to understand the regioselective nature of this reaction. The results of Frontier molecular orbital calculations and the activation energy (E a) favour the formation of compound 3avia γ-attack compared to that of 4avia α-attack.

Abstract
The importance and prevalance of O-, N-, and S-atom containing saturated four-membered ring motifs in biologically active molecules and potential therapeutics continues to drive efforts in their efficient synthetic preparation. In this review, general and recent strategies for the synthesis of these heterocycles are presented. Due to the limited potential bond disconnections, retrosynthetic strategies are broadly limited to cyclizations and cycloadditions. Nonetheless, diverse approaches for accessing cyclization precursors have been developed, ranging from nucleophilic substitution to C-H functionalization. Innovative methods for substrate activation have been developed for cycloadditions under photochemical and thermal conditions. Advances in accessing oxetanes, azetidines, and thietanes remain active areas of research with continued breakthroughs anticipated to enable future applications.

Abstract
Previous experiments have shown that DABCO-catalyzed annulation of 2,3-butadienoate and diethylazodicarboxylate leads to 1,2-diazetidine (reaction (1)), whereas PPh3-catalyzed 2-benzyl-2,3-butadienoate and diethylazodicarboxylate gives pyrazoline (reaction (2)).

Abstract
A highly enantioselective β-isocupreidine (β-ICD) catalyzed synthesis of dihydropyran-fused benzofurans through [4+2] cycloaddition of allenoates and benzofuranone alkenes was developed. Switchable chirality inversion of cycloaddition products was achieved by replacing the phenolic proton of the catalyst with a methyl, demonstrating an amazing effect of minimal structural variation on inverting enantioselectivity. DFT calculations were utilized to elucidate the origin of the observed phenomena. Computation also provided a clue for a rational design in which the multi-hydrogen bond with the alcohol additive was found to improve the enantioselectivity of the cycloaddition. Finally, the substrate scope was examined, in which a number of functionalized dihydropyran-fused benzofurans could be obtained in high yields (up to 97 %) with very good regio- (>20:1) and enantioselectivities (up to 98:2 e.r.).

Abstract
A highly enantioselective [4+2] annulation with respect to allenoates and 3-olefinic oxindoles catalyzed by Lewis base was reported, which proved to be an efficient way to synthesize chiral dihydropyran-fused indoles. The cycloaddition products were generally obtained in high yields (up to 98%) with very good enantioselectivities (up to 94% enantiomeric excess).

Abstract
![]()
2-Substituted oxetan-3-ones can be
prepared in good yields and
enantioselectivities (up to 84% ee) by the metalation of the SAMP/RAMP
hydrazones of oxetan-3-one, followed by reaction with a range of electrophiles
that include alkyl, allyl, and benzyl halides. Additionally, both
chiral 2,2- and 2,4-disubstituted oxetan-3-ones can be made in high
ee (86–90%) by repetition of this lithiation/alkylation sequence
under appropriately controlled conditions. Hydrolysis of the resultant
hydrazones with aqueous oxalic acid provides the 2-substituted oxetan-3-ones
without detectable racemization.

Abstract
A highly efficient, operationally simple approach to trifluoromethyl ketones has been developed that builds on the use of a tandem process involving Claisen condensation and retro-Claisen C-C bond cleavage reaction. Enolizable alkyl phenyl ketones were found to react readily with ethyl trifuoroacetate under the promotion of NaH to afford trifluoroacetic ester/ketone exchange products, trifluoromethyl ketones, which were quite different from the general Claisen condensation products, β-diketones. This procedure uses readily available starting materials and can be extended to the preparation of perfluoroalkyl ketones in excellent yield.
