Abstract
A novel protocol has been developed for the modular synthesis of polycarbonyl compounds by catalytic hydration of 1,3-diketone-tethered alkynes. The hydration process exhibits good regioselectivity and high yields at room temperature, avoiding the use of strong acids and noble metals and the requirement for elevated temperatures. Mechanistic insights suggest that the hydration proceeds through a concerted process of alkyne protonation and remote carbonyl participation. This approach provides direct access to tandem heterocycle dyads and triads.

Investigating chemical diversity: o-propargylphenols as key compounds in the divergent synthesis of 2-substituted benzofurans and chromenes. Org Biomol Chem 2024; 22:7895-7904. Abstract
In this study, we explored and optimized a MW-enhanced divergent approach for the synthesis of 2-substituted benzofurans and chromenes, starting from seventeen substituted o-propargylphenols characterized by a monoaryl substitution on the propargylic sp3 carbon. Firstly, we developed a robust platform for the preparation of a library of o-propargylphenols. Under basic conditions, o-propargylphenols reacted regioselectively to yield benzofurans in yields ranging from 43% to 100%. Conversely, under cationic gold catalysis, we were able to obtain the corresponding 4H-chromenes, albeit in more variable yields (from 25% to 93%) and slightly lower regioselectively. We also proposed plausible mechanisms to explain the divergent outcomes observed. Our findings underscore the potential of diversity-oriented synthesis in the investigation of molecular complexity. Our neglected o-propargylphenols have proven to be versatile and strategic starting materials for accessing oxygen-containing heterocyclic scaffolds through intramolecular cyclization reactions.

Abstract
Benzofuran and naphthofuran derivatives are synthesized from readily available phenols and naphthols. Regioselective ring openings of 2H-azirine followed by in situ aromatization using a catalytic amount of Brønsted acid have established the novelty of the methodology. The involvement of a series of 2H-azirines with a variety of phenols, 1-naphthols, and 2-naphthols showed the generality of the protocol. In-depth density functional theory calculations revealed the reaction mechanism with the energies of the intermediates and transition states of a model reaction. An alternate pathway of the mechanism has also been proposed with computer modeling.

Abstract
A simple and efficient strategy for the synthesis of 1-propenylnaphthols from readily accessible 3-arylallylnaphthyl ethers has been developed. By using K2CO3 as base and 2-methoxyethanol as solvent, direct access to a wide range of 1-propenylnaphthols can be achieved in generally good yield (up to 99%) with high stereoselectivity toward the Z isomer. The control experiments indicate that the reaction proceeds through a sequential Claisen rearrangement/isomerization process. Furthermore, starting from the same material, the highly valuable 3-arylnaphtho[2,1-b]furans can be obtained in N,N-dimethylformamide and in the presence of Ag2O as the oxidant via a one-pot sequential Claisen rearrangement/isomerization/cyclization reaction. Mechanistic studies confirm that 1-propenylnaphthols are the key intermediates to form the 3-arylnaphtho[2,1-b]furans. In addition, these two operationally simple and practical protocols could be scaled up to a gram level.
