Abstract
Here we present an iridium catalysed C2-selective methylation of indoles using methyltrifluoroborate as a source of methyl group. The iridium catalyst selectively discriminates the indole C2 and C4 C-H bonds by coordination with a pivaloyl directing group.

Abstract
5,6-Dihydrophenanthridines are common aza heterocycle frameworks of natural products and pharmaceuticals. Herein, we reported the first palladium-catalyzed intramolecular C−H/C−H dehydrogenative coupling reaction of two simple arenes to generate 5,6-dihydrophenanthridines. The approach features a broad substrate scope and good tolerance of functional groups, offering an efficient alternative synthesis route for important 5,6-dihydrophenanthridine compounds.

Abstract
The alkene-based o-[1-(p-MeO-phenyl)vinyl]benzoates (PMPVB) donors that can be remotely activated under catalytic Brønsted acidic conditions have been utilized to synthesize the C-linked indolyl glycosides in a regio- and stereoselective manner. The highly reactive glycosyl donors allow the usage of the poorly nucleophilic N-Boc and N-acetyl indole derivatives, leading to the indolyl glycosides in excellent yields and stereoselectivities. Also, conditions were developed for recycling the byproduct, which significantly improves the potential of these donors.

Abstract
A rhodium(III)-catalyzed regioselective C2-alkenylation of indoles for the construction of α-CF3 substituted enamines has been developed, which utilizes CF3-imidoyl sulfoxonium ylides (TFISYs) as alkenylating agents for the first time. A wide array of indolyl- and trifluoromethyl-decorated enamine derivatives have been assembled in moderate to good yields.

Abstract
The total synthesis of the suggested structure of (-)-novofumigatamide, a natural product containing a C3-reverse prenylated N-acetyl-exo-hexahydropyrrolo[2,3-b]indole motif fused to a 10-membered ring lactam, was achieved using the macrolactam formation in advance of a diastereoselective bromocyclization and reverse prenylation steps. Since the NMR data of the synthetic sample did not match those of the natural product, the endo-bromo precursor of a N-Boc analogue and additional diastereomers derived from l-Trp were also synthesized. Five alternative synthetic routes, which differed in the order of final key steps used for the construction of the 10-membered ring lactam and the hexahydropyrrolo[2,3-b]indole framework within the polycyclic skeleton and also in the amide bond selected for the ring-closing of the macrolactam, were thoroughly explored. Much to our dismay, the lack of spectroscopic correlations between the proposed structure of natural (-)-novofumigatamide and the synthetic products suggested a different connectivity between the atoms. Additional synthetic efforts to assemble alternative structures of the natural product and isomers thereof (see accompanying paper; DOI: 10.1021/acs.joc.2c01228) further highlighted the frustrating endeavors toward the identification of a natural product.

Abstract
Herein, we report dialkoxylation of N-substituted indoles through a hypervalent iodine-mediated umpolung strategy, affording trans-2,3-dimethoxyindolines with up to 95% yield. In addition, C5-selective bromination of 2,3-dialkoxyindoline via NBS-mediated rearomatization was achieved. DFT calculation of the sequence of electrophilic addition and nucleophilic substitution pathway of N-substituted indoles has also been investigated.

Abstract
A transition-metal-free strategy for the synthesis of 2-(cyclobut-1-en-1-yl)-1H-indoles under mild conditions is described herein. A series of substituted 2-(cyclobut-1-en-1-yl)-1H-indoles are accessed by a one-pot cyclobutenylation/deprotection cascade from N-Boc protected indoles. Preliminary experimental and density functional theory calculations suggest that a Boc-group transfer is involved in the underlying mechanism.

Abstract
The regioselective direct C3-esterification of indoles with OXA is developed in an efficient reaction with carboxylic acids using the catalyst CuBr2 and oxidants Ag2CO3 and K2S2O8. The simple experimental procedure is proved to be broadly applicable to a range of substrates, including aromatic and aliphatic acids, and the corresponding products were obtained in good yields up to 87%. At the same time, it provides a valuable approach to produce C3-benzyl derivatives of indoles through reaction with benzyl carboxylic acid under the same reaction conditions.

Abstract
Efficient control of regioselectivity is a key concern in transition-metal-catalyzed direct C-H functionalization reactions. Various strategies for regiocontrol have been established by tuning the selectivity of the C-H activation step as a common mode. Herein, we present our study on an alternative mode of regiocontrol, in which the selectivity of the C-H activation step is no longer a key concern. We found that, in a reaction where the C-H activation step exhibits a different regio-preference from the subsequent functionalization step, a ligand-enabled switch of the regioselectivity-determining step could provide efficient regiocontrol. This mode has been exemplified by the Pd(ii)-catalyzed aerobic oxidative Heck reaction of indoles, in which a ligand-controlled C3-/C2-selectivity was achieved for the first time by the development of sulfoxide-2-hydroxypyridine (SOHP) ligands.

Abstract
The Pd-mediated cross-coupling of (hetero)arenes with alkenes may be an effective method for the formation of a C–C bond from two C–H bonds. Discovered by Fujiwara and co-workers in 1967, this reaction led to a number of reports that we firstly highlighted in 2011 (review with references till June 2010) and for which, we retained the name “dehydrogenative Heck reaction”. The topic, especially the reactions of five-membered heteroarenes, has been the subject of intensive research over the last ten years. The present review is limited to these dehydrogenative Heck reactions published since 2010, underlining the progress of the procedures.

Abstract
An efficient method for making 1,2-thiofunctionalized products via the difunctionalization of aromatic alkenes was developed. In this method, cheap and readily available hydrochloric acid was used to promote 1,2-thiofunctionalization of aryl alkenes with N-arylsulfenylphthalimide and different types of nucleophiles. Importantly, extension of nucleophiles can reach aryl ethers, indoles, and carboxylic acids with good reactivity. This practical and convenient method has broad substrate scope and high yields under metal-free and mild conditions. Furthermore, we achieved conversion and application for making sulfoxide and sulfone by oxidation.
