Abstract
A chitosan-derived metal-free N-doped carbon catalyst was synthesized and investigated for selective reductive formylation of quinoline to N-formyl-tetrahydroquinoline and nitroarenes to N-formyl anilides via aqueous formic acid (FA)-mediated catalytic transformation. FA dissociated on the catalyst surface and acted as a hydrogenating and formylating source for selective N-formylation of N-heteroarenes. The carbonized catalyst prepared at 700 °C offered the best activity. A 92 % yield of N-formyl-tetrahydroquinoline after 14 h and >99 % yield for N-formyl anilide after 12 h at 160 °C were obtained. The excellent catalytic activity was correlated with the type of "N" species and the basicity of the catalyst. Density functional theory calculations revealed that a water-assisted FA decomposition pathway (deprotonation and dehydroxylation) generated the surface adsorbed -H and -HCOO species, required for the formation of N-formylated products. In addition, the selective formation of N-formyl-tetrahydroquinoline and N-formyl anilides was explained by a comprehensive reaction energetics analysis.

Abstract
Diboron-mediated rhodium-catalyzed transfer hydrogenation of functionalized arenes is reported. In addition to good functional group tolerance, the reaction features operational simplicity and controllable chemoselectivity. The general applicability of this procedure is demonstrated by the selective hydrogenation of a range of arenes, including functionalized benzenes, biphenyls, and polyaromatics.

Abstract
Formic acid (HCOOH) as an inexpensive and versatile reagent has gained broad
attention in the field of green synthesis and chemical industry. Formic acid acts not only as a
convenient and less toxic CO surrogate, but also as an excellent formylative reagent, C1
source and hydrogen donor in organic reactions. Over the past decades, many exciting contributions
have been made which have helped chemists to understand the mechanisms of these
reactions. The review will examine recent advances in the utilization of formic acid as an
economical, practical and multipurpose reactant in synthetic transformations.

Abstract
Although single-atom catalysts significantly improve the atom utilization efficiency, the multistep preparation procedures are complicated and difficult to control. Herein, we demonstrate that one-step in situ synthesis of the single-atom Pt anchored in single-crystal MoC (Pt1/MoC) by using facile and controllable arc-discharge strategy under extreme conditions. The high temperature (up to 4000°C) provides the sufficient energy for atom dispersion and overall stability by forming thermodynamically favourable metal-support interactions. The high-temperature-stabilized Pt1/MoC exhibits outstanding performance and excellent thermal stability as durable catalyst for selective quinoline hydrogenation. The initial turnover frequency of 3710 h-1 is greater than those of previously reported samples by an order of magnitude under 2 MPa H2 at 100°C. The catalyst also shows broad scope activity toward hydrogenation containing unsaturated groups of C=C, C=N, and C=O. The facile, one-step, and fast arc-discharge method provides an effective avenue for single-atom catalyst fabrication that is conventionally challenging.

Abstract
It is highly desired but remains a great challenge to develop non-noble metal heterogeneous catalysts to supersede noble metal catalysts for formic acid (FA) dehydrogenation and the corresponding transfer hydrogenation reactions. Herein, we developed a simple and feasible melamine-assisted pyrolysis strategy for the preparation of atomic cobalt-nitrogen (Co-N)-anchored mesoporous carbon with high metal loading (>6.8 wt %) and high specific surface area (750 m2 g-1). Systematic investigation reveals that both the organic carbon source polypyrrole and the nitrogen source melamine are crucial for the successful generation of such Co-N-based materials. The obtained samples (Co-N)n@NC were demonstrated to be highly efficient and robust catalysts for FA dehydrogenation and formylation of quinolines through transfer hydrogenation, exhibiting a very high hydrogen production rate of 16 451 mL·gCo-1·h-1 for FA dehydrogenation and affording excellent yields (up to 99%), selectivity (up to 98%), and stability for transfer hydrogenation. This work may provide a promising route for the fabrication of more low-cost metal-nitrogen catalysts for green fine chemical synthesis.

Abstract
The first-time use of the oxazaborolidine complex in transfer hydrogenation was accomplished. It was prepared without difficulty from cheap materials: ethanolamine and BH3·THF. A general and efficient method for copper-catalyzed transfer hydrogenation of a variety of N-heteroaromatics with an oxazaborolidine-BH3 complex under mild reaction conditions afforded the corresponding hydrogenated products in up to 96% yield. Mechanistic studies indicate that the hydrogen source originated from water and borane that coordinate with the nitrogen atom of oxazaborolidine. Accordingly, a plausible mechanism for this reaction was proposed. This method was successfully used in the key step synthesis of natural products (±)-angustureine and (±)-galipinine in three steps.

Abstract
Nitrogen modified cobalt nanoparticles are easily prepared from melamine or melamine resins. The resulting catalysts show excellent selectivity for transfer hydrogenation of N-heteroarenes.
Nitrogen modified cobalt catalysts supported on carbon were prepared by pyrolysis of the mixture generated from cobalt(ii) acetate in aqueous solution of melamine or waste melamine resins, which are widely used as industrial polymers. The obtained nanostructured materials catalyze the transfer hydrogenation of N-heteroarenes with formic acid in the absence of base. The optimal Co/Melamine-2@C-700 catalyst exhibits high activity and selectivity for the dehydrogenation of formic acid into molecular hydrogen and carbon dioxide and allows for the reduction of diverse N-heteroarenes including substrates featuring sensitive functional groups.

Abstract
The strong Pd–N interaction on biomass-derived N-doped highly mesoporous carbons (NMCs) generates co-existence of electron-deficient Pd (Pdδ+) and metallic Pd (Pd0), leading to Pd/NMC as novel bifunctional catalyst for both FA dehydrogenation and vanillin hydrogenation.

Abstract
For the first time, transfer hydrogenation of quinolines and related heterocycles is performed with a non-noble metal based catalyst. [Co(BF4)2·6H2O] in combination with phosphine L1 catalyses selectively, the mild reduction of N-heteroarenes using formic acid as hydrogen donor.
