Abstract
The introduction of added '3-dimensionality' through late-stage functionalisation of extended (hetero)aromatic systems is a powerful synthetic approach. The abundance of starting materials and cross-coupling methodologies to access the precursors allows for highly diverse products. Subsequent selective partial reduction can alter the core structure in a manner of interest to medicinal chemists. Herein, we describe the precise, partial reduction of multicyclic heteroaromatic systems using a simple heterogeneous catalyst. The approach can be extended to introduce deuterium (again at late-stage). Excellent yields can be obtained using simple reaction conditions.

Abstract
A new, efficient, and metal-free protocol has been developed for remote difunctionalization of unreactive C-H bonds at the benzene core of 2H-indazole by employing Koser's reagents, which act as both sulfonyloxylating and iodinating agents under ambient air. The present methodology represents facile access to C-4-sulfonyloxylated and C-7-iodinated 2H-indazole derivatives with high regioselectivity, wide functional group tolerance, and broad substrate scope in good to excellent yields. The formed 4,7 disubstituted 2H-indazoles are the precursors of various C-4,7-functionalized 2H-indazoles through simple transformations.

Abstract
A facile and efficient quinoline-fused 4H-benzo[b][1,4]oxazine has been successfully fabricated through an oxidative O-arylation, Pd-catalyzed double N-arylation of 4-hydroxyquinoline derivatives and trivalent aryl iodides. Diversified fused heterocycles could be easily constructed in overall high isolated yields with great substrate scope. The afforded heteroatom-"doped" phenoxazine 3 demonstrated high molar absorptivities and excellent stability and redox reversibility. These phenoxazine analogues therefore could be utilized as promising catalysts in the photoredox catalyzed perfluoroalkylation of heteroarenes and photopromoted radical polymerization (OATRP).

Abstract
A novel and convenient photo-mediated halogenated spirocyclization of N-(p-methoxyaryl)propiolamides has been developed. The photolysis of phenyliodine bis(trifluoroacetate) (PIFA) as an iodination reagent led to iodinated ipso-cyclization under the irradiation of a xenon lamp, while brominated ipso-cyclization or chlorinated ipso-cyclization was achieved by irradiating a mixture of PIFA and KBr/KCl under a blue LED. The present protocol simply utilizes light as the safe and clean energy source and doesn't require any external photocatalyst providing various 3-halospiro[4,5]trienones in good to excellent yields (up to 93%).

Abstract
Herein, we design and synthesize an array of benzofuro[3,2-c]quinolines starting from 3-(2-methoxyphenyl)quinolin-4(1H)ones via a sequential chlorination/demethylation, intramolecular cyclization pathway. This sequential transformation was efficient, conducted under metal-free and mild reaction conditions, and yielded corresponding benzofuro[3,2-c]quinolines in high yields. In vitro biological evaluation indicated that such type of compounds showed excellent antileukemia activity and selectivity, and therefore may offer a promising hit compound for developing antileukemia compounds.

Abstract
An efficient protocol for the synthesis of various coumestans from the intramolecular annulation of 3-iodo-4-aryloxy coumarins through C–H activation has been developed.

Abstract
A mechanistic study of arylations of aliphatic alcohols and hydroxide with diaryliodonium salts, to give alkyl aryl ethers and diaryl ethers, has been performed using experimental techniques and DFT calculations. Aryne intermediates have been trapped, and additives to avoid by-product formation originating from arynes have been found. An alcohol oxidation pathway was observed in parallel to arylation; this is suggested to proceed by an intramolecular mechanism. Product formation pathways via ligand coupling and arynes have been compared, and 4-coordinated transition states were found to be favored in reactions with alcohols. Furthermore, a novel, direct nucleophilic substitution pathway has been identified in reactions with electron-deficient diaryliodonium salts.

Abstract
PhI(OCOCF3)2 acts as both a nonmetal oxidant and an iodination reagent to trigger iodocyclization of N-arylpropynamides while selectively affording iodinated quinolin-2-ones or the spiro[4,5]trienone skeleton, depending on the substituent pattern. In cases where the N-arylpropynamide bears a para-fluorine on the aniline ring, the spiro compound is formed via an exclusive defluorination process; otherwise, the product was quinolin-2-one.

Abstract
A transition-metal-free, mild, and highly regioselective synthesis of nitroarenes from arenes has been developed. The products are obtained in a sequential one-pot reaction by nitration of iodine(III) reagents with two carbon ligands, which are formed in situ from iodine(I). This novel concept has been extended to formation of aryl azides, and constitutes an important step towards catalytic reactions with these hypervalent iodine reagents. An efficient nitration of isolated diaryliodonium salts has also been developed, and the mechanism is proposed to proceed by a [2,2] ligand coupling pathway.
