Abstract
An efficient palladium-catalyzed region-selective C7-trifluoromethylation of indolines using commercially available Umemoto's reagent was reported. The reaction utilizing Umemoto's reagent as CF3 radical precursor, pyrimidine as a removable directing group, Pd(II) as a catalyst, and Cu(II) as an oxidant furnished the required products with excellent regioselectivities and good yields. The present strategy has good region-selectivity, broad substrate scope, and scale-up application. Additionally, the present method was underlined by the direct C-1 trifluoromethylation of carbazoles. Furthermore, C7 trifluoromethylated indole can also be easily obtained via Pd-catalyzed direct C-7 trifluoromethylation/oxidation/deprotection sequential reactions.

Abstract
Rh(III)-catalyzed C7-alkylation of isatogens (indolin-3-one N-oxides) with malonic acid diazoesters has been developed. This strategy utilizes oxygen anion on the N-oxide group of isatogens as a directing group and successfully achieves the synthesis of a series of C7-alkylated isatogens with moderate to good yields (48-86% yields). Moreover, the N-oxides of isatogens can not only serve as the simple directing group for C7-H bond cleavage but also be deoxidized for easy removal.

Abstract
A nickel-catalyzed site-selective tandem cyclization of 1,6-diynes with substituted indolines or indoles through consecutive dual C-H bond activation is described. In the reaction, substituted fused indole and carbazole derivatives were observed in good to excellent yields, in which three consecutive C-C bonds formed in one pot. Later, in the presence of DDQ, the aromatization of the indoline derivative was converted to the indole derivative. A possible reaction mechanism involving dual C-H bond activation as a key step was proposed to account for the present reaction.

Abstract
A palladium-catalyzed direct C-H arylation of indolines at C-7 position has been achieved at near-ambient temperature. The reaction was carried out with aryltriazene as a stable aryl source and electron shuttle to sustainably release aryl radical in situ under the action of promoter, and pyrimidine as a detachable directing group for the synthesis of 7-arylindolines under oxidant- and ligand-free conditions. Notably, this catalytic system can also be applied to the direct and site-selective arylation of tetrahydroquinolines (C-8) and carbazoles (C-1).

Abstract
The Grignard-type nucleophilic addition of C(sp2)-H bonds to aldehydes catalyzed by high-oxidation-state transition metal complexes is limited to activated aldehydes. Herein, we report the first example of Grignard-type nucleophilic addition of C(sp2)-H bonds to unactivated aldehydes catalyzed by high-oxidation-state ruthenium(II). The reaction has mild reaction conditions and good functional group tolerance. The corresponding alcohol products are obtained in good to excellent yields.

Abstract
Chemo-, regio- and diastereoselective coupling reactions of indole with imide derivatives leading to unique heterocyclic systems are demonstrated. Acid-induced 3-position coupling reactions of indole with cyclic imide derived lactamols followed by acid promoted 2-position cyclizations with the corresponding aldehydes are described to obtain the indolizinoindolones and benzoindolizinoindolones. Base induced 2-position coupling reactions of N-tosylindole with N-(2-iodoethyl)imides and the subsequent cyclizations provide indolylepoxypyrrolooxazole, indolylpyrrolooxazolone and indolyloxazoloisoindolone. Reductive cleavage of indolyloxazoloisoindolone to the corresponding alcohol followed by mesylation and base promoted N-cyclization affords the in situ air-oxidized pentacyclic product hydroxyisoindolopyrazinoindolone. A regioisomeric structural revision of the natural product from 1,2,5,6,7,11c-hexahydro-3H-indolizino[7,8-b]indol-3-one to 1,2,5,6,11,11b-hexahydro-3H-indolizino(8,7-b)indol-3-one is also reported in the present studies focussed on the methodologies for heterocyclic synthesis.

Abstract
A highly regioselective and atom-efficient strategy for the construction of fused free (NH) heteroarenes through a palladium-catalyzed perfluoroalkyl insertion reaction has been accomplished. This protocol employed multiple iodofluoroalkanes as practical and available perfluoroalkyl sources to provide an operationally simple and versatile route for the synthesis of perfluoroalkylated indoles. Moreover, indoles without the assistance of guide groups were utilized as substrates, achieving C(sp2)-H site-selective functionalization of indoles in yields up to 95%. Furthermore, this protocol was also used for late-stage C2 perfluoroalkylation of bioactive compounds such as auxin, tryptophan, and melatonin analogues.

Abstract
The ruthenium(ii)-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction between 2-aryl quinazolinones and activated aldehydes is described. This method enables the site-selective hydroxyalkylation under redox-neutral conditions. Moreover, this protocol provides a facile access to various tetracyclic isoindoloquinazolinones by using Cu(OAc)2 as an external oxidant via C-H addition and subsequent intramolecular cyclization. A wide substrate scope and a high level of chemoselectivity as well as broad functional group tolerance are observed.

Abstract
Hydroxyalkylation of N-heteroaromatics with aldehydes was achieved using a binary hybrid catalyst system comprising an acridinium photoredox catalyst and a thiophosphoric acid organocatalyst. The reaction proceeded through the following sequence: (1) photoredox-catalyzed single-electron oxidation of a thiophosphoric acid catalyst to generate a thiyl radical, (2) cleavage of the formyl C-H bond of the aldehyde substrates by a thiyl radical acting as a hydrogen atom transfer catalyst to generate acyl radicals, (3) Minisci-type addition of the resulting acyl radicals to N-heteroaromatics, and (4) a spin-center shift, photoredox-catalyzed single-electron reduction, and protonation to produce secondary alcohol products. This metal-free hybrid catalysis proceeded under mild conditions for a wide range of substrates, including isoquinolines, quinolines, and pyridines as N-heteroaromatics, as well as both aromatic and aliphatic aldehydes, and tolerated various functional groups. The reaction was applicable to late-stage derivatization of drugs and their leads.

Abstract
A copper-catalyzed, directed ortho C-H diarylamination of indoles, indolines, anilines, and N-aryl-7-azaindoles has been established. Only copper salt as the catalyst and oxygen as the terminal oxidant are used to synthesize triarylamines using various diarylamines including carbazole and phenothiazine. Mechanistic interrogation reveals that copper plays a dual role.

Abstract
An efficient CoIII -catalyzed three-component strategy to prepare homoallylic alcohols containing acyclic quaternary centers is disclosed. This transformation enables the introduction of two C-C σ bonds through C-H bond activation and sequential addition to internally substituted dienes and a wide range of aldehydes and activated ketones. Isoprene and other internally monosubstituted dienes are effective inputs, with the reaction proceeding with high diastereoselectivity for those substrate combinations that result in more than one stereogenic center. Moreover, the opposite relative stereochemistry can be achieved by employing 1,2-disubstituted dienes. A mechanism for the transformation is proposed based upon the relative stereochemistry of the products and studies with isotopically labeled starting materials.

Abstract
The transition-metal-catalyzed addition of C-H bonds to carbonyls, imines, and related polarized π bonds has emerged as a particularly efficient and powerful approach for the construction of an incredibly diverse array of heteroatom-substituted products. Readily available and stable inputs are typically employed, and reactions often proceed with very high functional group compatibility and without the production of waste byproducts. Additionally, many transition-metal-catalyzed C-H bond additions to polarized π bonds occur within cascade reaction sequences to provide rapid access to a diverse array of different heterocyclic as well as carbocyclic products. This review highlights the diversity of transformations that have been achieved, catalysts that have been used, and types of products that have been prepared through the transition-metal-catalyzed addition of C-H bonds to carbonyls, imines, and related polarized π bonds.
