Cs2CO3-Promoted reaction of tertiary bromopropargylic alcohols and phenols in DMF: a novel approach to α-phenoxyketones

The reaction of bromopropargylic alcohols with phenols in the presence of Cs₂CO₃/DMF affords α-phenoxy-α’-hydroxyketones (1:1 adducts) and α,α-diphenoxyketones (1:2 adducts) in up to 92% and 24% yields, respectively. Both products are formed via ring opening of the same intermediates, 1,3-dioxolan-2-ones, generated in situ from bromopropargylic alcohols and Cs₂CO₃.

Stereoselective copper-catalyzed heteroarene C-H functionalization/Michael-type annulation cascade with α-diazocarbonyls

A stereoselective, copper-catalyzed, arene C(sp²)-H functionalization/Michael-type annulation reaction involving α-diazocarbonyl compounds has been developed. The method features low catalyst loadings, high yields, and excellent regio and stereoselectivity, in the synthesis of various heteroaromatic frameworks by employing indoles as the arene partner.

Ir(III)-Catalyzed C-H Functionalization of Triphenylphosphine Oxide toward 3-Aryl Oxindoles

With triphenylphosphine oxide serving as both the directing group and the reagent, we have developed a Cp*Ir(III)-catalyzed direct C-H functionalization of triphenylphosphine oxide with 3-diazooxindoles to afford a range of 3-(2-(diphenylphosphoryl)phenyl)indolin-2-one derivatives in moderate to excellent yields. The title products are potentially important building blocks for organic synthesis through various chemical transformations. This protocol is simple and efficient and offers high atom economy with only N₂ as the byproduct.

By means of the direct condensation of N-aminoethylpyrroles and isatins, followed by a chiral phosphoric acid-catalyzed asymmetric intramolecular Friedel-Crafts reaction, a new class of valuable chiral 3′,4′-dihydro-2′H-spiro[indoline-3,1′-pyrrolo[1,2-a]pyrazin]-2-ones bearing a quaternary carbon stereocenter were successfully synthesized in good to excellent yields and with moderate to good enantioselectivities under mild reaction conditions.
