Combining Copper-Catalyzed Hydroboration with Palladium-Catalyzed Suzuki Coupling for the One-pot Synthesis of Arylallylamines under Micellar Conditions

A copper-catalysed one-pot hydroboration/azidation/cycloaddition reaction of alkynes

Herein we report our study on the development of a catalytic one-pot process, showing the challenges and advantages encountered all over the way. At the end, we developed a regioselective, environmentally friendly, and operationally simple method to explore the reactivity of functionalized propargylic alkynes through three copper-catalysed reactions in a single reaction vessel. The sequence consisted of a hydroboration, azidation, and 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition and led to the regioselective formation of vinyl 1,2,3-triazoles in good yields.

N-Methyl Allylic Amines from Allylic Alcohols by Mitsunobu Substitution Using N-Boc Ethyl Oxamate

We report the practical, scalable synthesis of a range of N-methyl allylic amines. Primary and secondary allylic alcohols underwent a regioselective Mitsunobu reaction with readily accessible N-Boc ethyl oxamate to deliver the corresponding N-Boc allylic amines, including in enantiopure form via stereospecific substitution. Subsequent N-methylation and Boc deprotection without chromatography yielded the amine products as hydrochloride salts. This method solves the problem of converting commercially available alcohols into often volatile N-methyl allylic amines, many of which have limited commercial availability.

Ligand-free, catalytic and regioselective hydroboration of selenoalkynes

The copper-catalyzed hydroboration of selenoalkynes in a regio- and stereoselective fashion is reported, delivering selenium-containing vinylboronate products in good yields.

C-N Bond Formation from Allylic Alcohols via Cooperative Nickel and Titanium Catalysis

Amination of allylic alcohols is facilitated via cooperative catalysis. Catalytic Ti(O- i-Pr)₄ is shown to dramatically increase the rate of nickel-catalyzed allylic amination, and mechanistic experiments confirm activation of the allylic alcohol by titanium. Aminations of primary and secondary allylic alcohols are demonstrated with a variety of amine nucleophiles. Diene-containing substrates also cyclize onto the nickel allyl intermediate prior to amination, generating carbocyclic amine products. This tandem process is only achieved under our cooperative catalytic system.
