Abstract
An efficient and practical method for the synthesis of C5-brominated 8-aminoquinoline amides via a copper-promoted selective bromination of 8-aminoquinoline amides with alkyl bromides was developed. The reaction proceeds smoothly in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) under air, employing activated and unactivated alkyl bromides as the halogenation reagents without additional external oxidants. This method features outstanding site selectivity, broad substrate scope, and excellent yields.

Abstract
C-X (X = halogen) bonds are indispensable functional groups in organic synthesis
by mediating a massive number of important organic reactions. While a variety of different
catalytic strategies are available for generating C-X bonds, those methods enabling the C-X
bond formation under transition metal-free conditions via the C-H bond functionalization are
particularly interesting because of the inherent atom economy and environmental friendliness
associated with such methods. Herein, the advancements in the transition metal-free halogenation
of C(2)-H bond are reviewed.

Abstract
A simple protocol for the synthesis of triarylmethane derivatives with three different (hetero)aryl groups by decarbonylation of 3,3-diaryl benzofuranones, which can easily be prepared via arylation of benzofuranones, was developed. The reaction proceeds on heating in dimethylformamide (DMF) in the presence of CH3ONa and water to generate the products in good to excellent yields. This reaction can be easily scaled up to give a triarylmethane in a gram scale. Further chemical manipulation of the products enabled useful transformations of the phenol ring, including reduction, arylation, cyclization, etc.

Abstract
A general and simple metal-free protocol for expedient C-H functionalization leading to the regioselective generation of C-5 chalcogenated 8-aminoquinoline analogues in up to 90% yield at room temperature (25 °C) has been established. This methodology is an eco-friendly approach to the atom-economical utilization of diaryl/dialkyl chalcogenides for direct access to chalcogenated quinolines and is scalable to the gram scale without considerable decrease in the yield of the product. It represents a practical alternative to the existing metal-catalyzed functionalization of 8-aminoquinoline derivatives with broad functional group tolerance. The controlled experiments suggest that the reaction possibly proceeds through an ionic pathway at room temperature. Furthermore, the potentiality for the functionalization of free amines in chalcogenated-8-aminoquinolines provides an attractive perspective for further elaboration of the amine substituent through chemical manipulations. The applicability of the standardized method has been augmented through late-stage antimalarial drug diversification of primaquine analogues.

Abstract
The reaction of trifluoroacetyl amides with Grignard reagent for the substitution of CF3 group with various alkyl or aryl groups is described. A variety of aryl, quinolin-8-yl, and (hetero)alkyl functional groups as well as F, Cl, and Br atoms are well tolerated. These moisture-stable and easily available trifluoroacetyl amides can be conveniently obtained and used as new versatile precursors for isocyanates. The control experiments show that the reaction proceeds via an isocyanate intermediate and/or alkoxide/amide dual anionic intermediate.

A simple protocol of iron(III)-catalyzed halogenation of 8-amidoquinolines in water under mild conditions was developed, affording the 5-halogenlated products in good to excellent yields up to 98%. The reaction mechanism most likely involves a single-electron transfer (SET) process.

Abstract
An operationally simple, metal-free protocol for regioselective halogenation of a range of 8-substituted quinolines has been established using recyclable trihaloisocyanuric acids.
An operationally simple and metal-free protocol for geometrically inaccessible C5–H halogenation of a range of 8-substituted quinoline derivatives has been established. The reaction proceeds under air, with inexpensive and atom economical trihaloisocyanuric acid as a halogen source (only 0.36 equiv.), at room temperature. Exceptionally high generality with respect to quinoline is observed, and in most instances, the reaction proceeded with complete regioselectivity. Quinoline with a variety of substituents at the 8-position gave, exclusively, the C5-halogenated product in good to excellent yields. Phosphoramidates, tertiary amides, N-alkyl/N,N-dialkyl, and urea derivatives of quinolin-8-amine as well as alkoxy quinolines were halogenated at the C5-position via remote functionalization for the first time. This methodology provides a highly economical route to halogenated quinolines with excellent functional group tolerance, thus providing a good complement to existing remote functionalization methods of quinolin-8-amide derivatives and broadening the field of remote functionalization. The utility of the method is further showcased through the synthesis of several compounds of biological and pharmaceutical interest.
