Abstract
An unprecedented Pd-catalyzed CO-free double carbonylation using Mo(CO)6 as a safe carbonyl source for the efficient synthesis of 1,4-ketoesters in an atom- and step-economic manner has been developed. The current method features operational safety, a wide substrate range, good functional group compatibility and easy scale-up. The application of carbonylation using a safe carbonyl source for the synthesis of biologically and synthetically useful carbonyl-containing molecules is underway in our lab.

Abstract
A visible light-enabled synthesis of unsymmetrical ketones has been accomplished by the cross-coupling of α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acids and aryldiazonium salts embracing a synergistic eosin Y and Co(OAc)2·4H2O catalysis. The reaction involves decarboxylative aerobic CC bond cleavage, and is endowed with the creation of new C-C and C-O bonds with good substrate scope.

Abstract
Carbonylation reactions with carbon monoxide (CO) provide efficient and attractive
routes for the synthesis of bulk and fine chemicals. However, the practice of using a
large excess of an inflammable, lethal and greenhouse CO gas is always a concern in this
chemistry. The development of CO surrogates has gained substantial interest and become a
green alternative to gaseous CO. Many of the recent studies have focused on the development
of other benign and safe reagents to work as a CO source in carbonylation reactions,
and the assortment of feasible CO surrogates for specific reaction can be accomplished by
the literature data. This review describes the recent developments in palladium-catalyzed
carbonyl insertions without the direct use of gaseous CO.

Abstract
A modular tandem synthesis of 2-carboxybenzofurans from 2-gem-dibromovinylphenols has been established based on a sequence of Cu-catalyzed intramolecular C-O coupling and Mo(CO)6-mediated intermolecular carbonylation reactions. This protocol allowed one-step access to a broad variety of functionalized benzofuran-2-carboxylic acids, esters, and amides in good to excellent yields under Pd- and CO gas-free conditions.

Abstract
Esters and amides were mechanochemically prepared by palladium-catalyzed carbonylative reactions of aryl iodides by using molybdenum hexacarbonyl as a convenient solid carbonyl source and avoiding a direct handling of gaseous carbon monoxide. Real-time monitoring of the mechanochemical reaction by in situ pressure sensing revealed that CO is rapidly transferred from Mo(CO)6 to the active catalytic system without significant release of molecular carbon monoxide.
