Enantioselective Alkenylation of Aldehydes with Protected Propargylic Alcohols in the Presence of a Crown Ether as an Additive

Synthesis of Novel 3-Deoxy-3-thio Derivatives of d-Glucosamine and Their Application as Ligands for the Enantioselective Addition of Diethylzinc to Benzaldehyde

A series of novel thio-derivatives of d-glucosamine has been synthesized using double inversion procedures at the C3 atom. New compounds were applied as ligands for the diethylzinc addition to benzaldehyde and the products of the addition were obtained with a low to good enantiomeric ratio. The direction and the level of the asymmetric induction were highly dependent on the type of protecting groups on the nitrogen and sulfur atoms.

Selective Synthesis of Ketones and Chiral Allylic Alcohols from the Addition of Arylboronic Acids to α,β-Unsaturated Aldehydes Mediated by a Transition Metal/Monophosphorus Ligand System

Here, we demonstrated a transition metal-mediated/monophosphorus ligand system for the selective synthesis of ketones or chiral allylic alcohols in high yields/enantiomeric excess from the 1,2-addition of arylboronic acids to α,β-unsaturated aldehydes. Notably, isomerization of the chiral allylic alcohols to ketones was suppressed by the Ru-catalyzed/monophosphorus ligand system. The asymmetric catalytic system provides an alternative and efficient method of preparing chiral allylic alcohols.

Proton-accelerated Lewis acid catalysis for stereo- and regioselective isomerization of epoxides to allylic alcohols

The isomerization of epoxides to allylic alcohols was developed via proton-accelerated Lewis acid catalysis. The addition of tBuOH as a proton source is the key to the efficient catalytic cycle. Trisubstituted epoxides, including enantioenriched derivatives, were selectively converted to secondary-allylic alcohols without loss of enantiopurity.

Are Organozirconium Reagents Applicable in Current Organic Synthesis?

The search for mild, user-friendly, easily accessible, and robust organometallic reagents is an important feature of organometallic chemistry. Ideally, new methodologies employing organometallics should be developed with respect to practical applications in syntheses of target compounds. In this short review, we investigate if organozirconium reagents can fulfill these criteria. Organozirconium compounds are typically generated via in situ hydrozirconation of alkenes or alkynes with the Schwartz reagent. Alkyl and alkenylzirconium reagents have proven to be convenient in conjugate additions, allylic substitutions, cross-coupling reactions, and additions to carbonyls or imines. Furthermore, the Schwartz reagent itself is a useful reducing agent for polar functional groups.
