Three-Component Tandem Amidosulfenylation of Alkenes for the Synthesis of β-Succinimide Sulfides

An environmentally benign multicomponent strategy for the amidosulfenylation of alkenes for the synthesis of β-succinimide sulfides is disclosed. In this process, common disulfides smoothly act as a sulfur-based source, and N-iodosuccinimide (NIS) is used not only as a free radical initiator but also as an N-nucleophile. A broad range of functional groups are tolerated in this reaction system.

K2CO3-promoted synthesis of amides from 1-aryl-2,2,2-trifluoroethanones and amines under mild conditions

A base-promoted amidation of 1-aryl-2,2,2-trifluoroethanones with amines via Haller-Bauer reaction has been developed. In this reaction, the direct transformation of 1-aryl-2,2,2-trifluoroethanones into amides via C(O)-C bond cleavage occurs without the use of any stoichiometric chemical oxidants or transition-metal catalysts. A series of primary and secondary amines are shown to be compatible with this transformation, and several pharmaceutical molecules were synthesized.

TEMPO-Promoted Mono- and Bisimidation of Tertiary Anilines: Synthesis of Symmetric and Unsymmetric N-Mannich Bases

A TEMPO-promoted method was developed for the synthesis of symmetric bis-N-Mannich bases via sequential activation of two α,α'-amino C(sp³)-H bonds of N,N-dimethylanilines under mild conditions. This methodology was further extended for monoimidation of α-amino-functionalized methylanilines to give unsymmetric N-Mannich bases in good to high yields. Several control experiments were performed, and the coupling reaction outcomes indicated that the oxoammonium (TEMPO⁺) species is involved in the reaction.

Mechanochemical halogenation of unsymmetrically substituted azobenzenes

The direct and selective mechanochemical halogenation of C–H bonds in unsymmetrically substituted azobenzenes using N-halosuccinimides as the halogen source under neat grinding or liquid-assisted grinding conditions in a ball mill has been described. Depending on the azobenzene substrate used, halogenation of the C–H bonds occurs in the absence or only in the presence of Pd^II catalysts. Insight into the reaction dynamics and characterization of the products was achieved by in situ Raman and ex situ NMR spectroscopy and PXRD analysis. A strong influence of the different 4,4’-substituents of azobenzene on the halogenation time and mechanism was found.
