Electrochemical Annulation of Indole-Tethered Alkynes Enabling Synthesis of Exocyclic Alkenyl Tetrahydrocarbazoles

An electrochemical sulfonylation-triggered cyclization reaction of indole-tethered terminal alkynes with sulfinates as sulfonyl sources has been developed, which affords exocyclic alkenyl tetrahydrocarbazoles in good chemical yields. This reaction features convenient operation and tolerates a wide scope of substrates with a variety of electronically and sterically diverse substituents. Furthermore, high E-stereoselectivity is observed for this reaction, which provides an efficient method for the preparation of functionalized tetrahydrocarbazole derivatives.

Electro-Oxidative C3-Selenylation of Pyrido[1,2-a]pyrimidin-4-ones

In this work, we achieved a C3-selenylation of pyrido[1,2-a]pyrimidin-4-ones using an electrochemically driven external oxidant-free strategy. Various structurally diverse seleno-substituted N-heterocycles were obtained in moderate to excellent yields. Through radical trapping experiments, GC-MS analysis and cyclic voltammetry study, a plausible mechanism for this selenylation was proposed.

Electrochemically-initiated intramolecular 1,2-amino oxygenation of alkynes: facile access to formyl- and acyl-substituted indolizines

An environmentally benign electrooxidative approach to the intramolecular aminooxygenation of alkynes through an electrophilic cyclization reaction has been developed, providing an efficient approach toward diverse formyl- and acyl-substituted indolizines.

Electrochemical Selenylative Carbannulation of Biaryl Ynones to Seleno-Dibenzocycloheptenones/Spiro[5.5]Trienones

Electrooxidative-induced synthesis of structurally diverse seleno-dibenzocyclohepten-5-ones and seleno-spiro[5.5]trienones by selenylative carbannulation of biaryl ynones with diaryl diselenide has been developed. The switchable reactivity, intramolecular ortho-annulation or dearomative ipso-annulation, is directed by the substituent present on the ortho-aryl group of aryl-ynone. The prominent features of this method include metal-free, external chemical oxidant-free conditions, and readily accessible substrates.

Tunable Electrocatalytic Annulations of o-Arylalkynylanilines: Green and Switchable Syntheses of Skeletally Diverse Indoles

Tunable electrocatalytic annulation reactions of o-arylalkynylanilines have been established, leading to green and divergent syntheses of skeletally diverse indoles by adjusting the electrolytes and the solvents. The presence of ammonium halides as the electrolytes enabled the halogenation of o-arylalkynylanilines to give C3-halogenated indoles whereas naphtho[1',2':4,5]furo[3,2-b]indoles could be obtained by changing the electrolyte from ammonium halides to KI. Interestingly, by combining acetone as the solvent and both NH₄I and NH₄Cl as the electrolytes, the reaction worked through an intramolecular annulation and [5 + 1] cyclization cascade to form naphtho[1',2':5,6][1,3]oxazino[3,4-a]indoles.

Diorganyl diselenides: a powerful tool for the construction of selenium containing scaffolds

Organoselenium compounds find versatile applications in organic synthesis, materials synthesis, and ligand chemistry. Organoselenium heterocycles are widely studied agents with diverse applications in various biological processes. This review highlights the recent progress in the synthesis of selenium heterocycles using diorganyl diselenides with keen attention on green synthetic approaches, scopes, C-H selanylation, the mechanisms of different reactions and insights into the formation of metal complexes. The C-H selanylation using diorganyl diselenides with different catalysts, bases, transition metals, iodine salts, NIS, hypervalent iodine, and other reagents is summarised. Finally, the diverse binding modes of bis(2/4-pyridyl)diselenide with different metal complexes are also summarised.

Electrochemical synthesis of sulfonated benzothiophenes using 2-alkynylthioanisoles and sodium sulfinates

Electrochemical sulfonylation/cyclization of 2-alkynylthioanisoles with sodium sulfinates was developed under catalyst-, external oxidant- and metal-free conditions. The electrosynthesis provides sustainable and efficient access to 3-sulfonated benzothiophenes with good substrate scope and functional group tolerance. This cascade radical process has been triggered through a sulfonyl radical addition to alkynes using sodium sulfinates under electrochemical conditions.

Copper-catalyzed radical cascade cyclization for synthesis of CF3-containing tetracyclic benzimidazo[2,1-a]iso-quinolin-6(5H)-ones

Here, a general copper-catalyzed radical cascade carbocyclization reaction with 2-arylbenzoimidazoles and a Togni reagent was realized. Structurally diverse CF3-containing tetracyclic core benzimidazo[2,1-a]isoquinoline-6(5H)-ones were obtained in moderate to good yields. The wide substrate scope, good functional group tolerance, and ease of scale-up of this method are expected to promote its potential applications in pharmacy and biotechnology.

A novel method for the continuous synthesis of selenated iminoisobenzofurans by cyclization of olefinic amides with diselenides through electrochemical oxidation under metal-free and oxidant-free conditions has been developed.

Nickel-catalyzed C-O/N-H, C-S/N-H, and C-CN/N-H annulation of aromatic amides with alkynes: C-O, C-S, and C-CN activation

The Ni-catalyzed reaction of ortho-phenoxy-substituted aromatic amides with alkynes in the presence of LiO^tBu as a base results in C–O/N–H annulation with the formation of 1(2H)-isoquinolinones. The use of a base is essential for the reaction to proceed. The reaction proceeds, even in the absence of a ligand, and under mild reaction conditions (40 °C). An electron-donating group on the aromatic ring facilitates the reaction. The reaction was also applicable to carbamate (C–O bond activation), methylthio (C–S bond activation), and cyano (C–CN bond activation) groups as leaving groups.

This review highlights recent progress in the construction of fluorinated lactams, including fluoro-β-lactams, fluoro-γ-lactams, and fluoro-δ-lactams, with an emphasis on the scopes, limitations and mechanisms of these different reactions.
